Love all the technical paddle nerd info 🤘... Awesome to see smaller companies popping up and making a quality product. Good luck in all your future endeavors at Mark!
Wicked episode! Lots of good topics covered, love the technical breakdowns! My only recommendation is timestamps! As for grit my Gen 3 Perseus stuck to my shirt when I got it, 2 games later it was smooth like a 6 month old paddle. Still generated a lot of spin but the texture went from 200 grit sandpaper to 3000 grit. Also that Mark One X is a gorgeous looking paddle nice work, it gives me TMNT vibes.. 🤣 Edit I just saw timestamps in description 🫠
@PickleballPursuit 0 seconds ago Sorry, they were in the description but I did not realize they needed to be at the top to be put on the video timeline. They are up now! Thanks for the kind words and letting us know about the timestamps!
Nice podcast. Thanks for the insight on what is happening with the paddle industry. It might also be interesting to hear what is going on with the pickleballs industry as this can really change how your paddle and you play.
Best podcast. I appreciate the paddle focus and less about pro pickleball performance updates. My question is, and I want you guys to nerd out on this, the impact on the sweet spot size and location of having a “aero” top (rounded top) versus a more squared off top to a paddle.
Justin, being a retired structural engineer I am enjoying your technology talk and your push for innovative materials and technologies!! Good stuff, keep up the good work and I hope you find some good solutions for future paddles!!
Really didn’t realize how much of a difference electrical tape made. I mainly just use it to cover up the lead tape because I’m paranoid 😅 also really enjoyed the podcast. Keep it going!
Excellent explanation on the performance effects of perimeter weighting. Especially the often overlooked impact of protective tape or guards! BTW, I love my Apollo for its high TW and low SW. As a side benefit its helping prevent the chronic irritation of my tennis elbow.
Good info on the edge guard tape, because i just barely got some pb effect protective tape. Thanks for the opportunity to win the MarkOne as well. Cheers.
I recently got a Mark One and love it so far. I've only used it twice so far but it is far superior to what I used before in power, spin, and control. Great paddle. I am now interested in the Mark Two as I've never used an elongated paddle for more than a few minutes when borrowing one.
running it back! I think your findings on doubling up electrical tape are going to make this episode super popular. Just tried it on my OneX and it was magic.
Glad to see another episode so soon. Paddle nerds everywhere salute you. Absolutely love my Kinetic paddle. Would really like to be able to give a OneX to one of my playing pals. Look forward to your next one
I enjoyed the podcast. I really enjoyed the technical information from Justin. I would like to see a paddle review of the Mark OneX paddle and I would like to know how this paddle compares to elongated, hybrid and paddles with longer handles. Thank you.
Great podcast! I love your approach overall and the wide range of experiences shared here from your personal and competitive backgrounds. The one area of disagreement of your analysis and concern over Joola Gen3 paddles. I've owned the first gen of Hyperion you mentioned and I agree it had a terrible handle design, prone to breakage. But since that paddle, I've owned the 14mm Anna Scorpeus, 16mm Collin Hyperion, and 16mm Ben Perseus. Of those three, I consistently found great results with the 14mm Anna, so this lead me to purchase the most expensive paddle in my collection: the new 14mm Anna Scorpeus Gen3. After about a month of use, I absolutely love this paddle! It's not a revolution over the earlier model, but certainly has more pop and larger sweet spot. Both are terrific. So much so that prior to the "ban" on Joola Gen3 paddles, I was preparing to possibly buy the opposite extreme in the 16mm Tyson Magnus, an extreme compared to the Anna, but hopefully a step up over my Selkirk Pro Air Invikta. Now, with the ban in effect I've put my desire on hold -- no one wants a paddle that is outlawed for competition or viewed with suspicion on rec level. My personal opinion is that the Joola Gen3 is a valid improvement in performance, and in the right hands can/could be winner. I hope the kerfuffle gets sorted out shortly, but I the Genie is out of the box, and I think that is an overall good thing for the game and the industry.
Justin & Lewis, will you make these spreadsheets for swing weight changes from edge tape available for us and maybe add a static weight measurement for the tapes so we could approximate for different tapes?
Thanks for the episode! Loved the edge tape effect / comparison section. Could you describe what you meant by a foam pallet handle construction on the J2K paddle? Justin: you mentioned it being a pet peeve. Why?
Already up there with the best pickleball podcasts around (John Kew and Eddie are also awesome). Keep up the good work! All of my paddles have edge tape so I will try some out again without the edge tape, starting with Mark One and J2K Pro. Based on the data you provided, they have around 4 added points and it was noticeable even before hearing this
Mark ones would make a whole new play style with its hybrid shape and elongated handle. Definitely going to start putting a pickleball effect edgeguard compare to double electrical tape. Insane how two thin electrical tape put on compare to one thick edge tape. Love the podcast 🔥
Odd that I'm "re-tapping" edge guards" for my friend while watching this. I play mostly "edgeless" paddles and use all types of tape. 4ourth looks cool but separates or peels apart. 1mil vinyl tape from Amazon is cheap and forms around the curves of the paddle head very well. I'd like to know more about how different "face grits" are made. How peel ply is done, types of peel ply sheets weave, courseness, etc. Paint grit, what materials are use for the "grit"? Sand, silica, diamond dust LOL etc. GEARBOX holds patents on their paddles, (SST) so a "clone" would have to be different internals. EVA foam is making it's way into legal cores.
2 episodes in. Looking forward to the next. Great job guys!!! Love the reviews and the pods! Already expected the findings you guys had regarding edge tape. But I really appreciated the in-depth breakdown nd findings on that.
Good stuff you guys! Keep doing it.

Mark One-X!
I have been interested in the Mark paddles. Excited to try one out.
extended handle on the onex seems interesting
Excellent having a company insider so a little less speculation on these things. Subscribed.
Really want to try out a Mark pickleball paddle, that new color scheme. 🔥

Great podcast, Luis! This is a cool collaboration!
Congrats in that views bump!!! Great podcast guys
love all the giveways to spread the joy of great pickleball paddles
The electrical tape comparison is just the type of nerd out info we needed.
Nice podcast. Thanks for the insight on what is happening with the paddle industry. It might also be interesting to hear what is going on with the pickleballs industry as this can really change how your paddle and you play.
Solid work 👌🏽
Sweet Mark, thanks.

Followed and subscribed. Thanks, guys.
love the podcast! great format too
I predict Mark will come up with a super powerful paddle soon
Love the pod!!

Got my ticket for the nerd train!!! That OneX looks to tick all the boxes. Enjoying your content.

Really great info. I didn’t t realize how much the electrical tape would affect the swing weight.
Great podcast!!! Please keep it going.
Played with old red Mark kenetic before, i would say it’s a really good all court paddle.
I'd pick Mark One which is all court hybrid paddle.
Can't wait for the top 5 paddles video.
Great video guys! Really like your edge tape review and your very thorough approach. Keep up the great work! 🥊
Good podcast
Just like "We need more Cow Bell" We need more nerd train talk.
these look fire and your insight is really good!
Thinking about putting weights on my hammer for better balance
🤯🤯🤯

Great discussions! Looking forward for that Mark One 🤞🤞🤞
Glad you hopped on the podcast train!
Great Podcast. I was surprised to hear how much edge guard tape affects swing weight. I have a Mark Pure and would love to try the Mark One.

Good stuff. Do continue👍
Was the tape placed around the whole circumference or just the tip of the paddle? I’ve considered doing just the end of the paddle.
awesome podcast . mark one for me
Well done guys. I thought I'd watch for a few minutes but every topic was so interesting, I kept going. Oh no....I'm a pickleball nerd!
Thanks for sticking around NERD! On a serious note we really appreciate the kind words and hope to continue bringing more quality content to you all!

great episode! love the snippet of paddle nerd talk about tape. keep it up!
Thanks😍
Looking forward to more podcasts in this format in the future; some good topics and the giveaway is awesome.
I saw everything! 1hour+ long podcast about pickleball paddle….
Great episode bro!
Congrats on your 2nd episode! Really enjoyed it!
Mark One is the best :D
Mark ones would make a whole new play style with its hybrid shape and elongated handle. Definitely going to start putting a pickleball effect edgeguard compare to double electrical tape. Insane how two thin electrical tape put on compare to one thick edge tape. Love the podcast 🔥
Are the RCF "legacy" Mark Paddles discontinued? I currently use the 14mm Pure and would love to get one with the new design.
Yea they have been discontinued... believe me I've made it know that its disappointing
@@PickleballPursuit Thanks. That is disappointing.😢
Would you have any recommendations for gen 1.5 paddles (paddles with edge foam but no thermoforming) that have a very low swing weight?
It's pretty crazy Joola gen 3 paddles failed again. I expected them to pass.

I prefer the hisk rav pro gen 1.5 over my thermoformed paddles
Cant wait!
