yeah, i return to this trailer every now and then.
aside from the impact it is really well done. And even that is en par with what Blizzard, famed for their cinematics, managed to do for their Heart of the swarm trailer / opening cinematic.
I enjoy the whole "making split second decissions between bad and worse." scenarios, the remake of battlestar galactica had that at times. In gaming i have yet to find a game that embraces this kind dread.

early versions were excellent 2 bad it bcame a buggy mess in the end
also to bad that it looked like they didn't really know what to do with it so they tried makin it into a standard mmo at the time
my opinion is that they could've emphasized more on this environmental and disaster bit of the game where yu helped with supply deliveries takin out bandits and so on

NerdSlayer has a full video on the subject and downfall of Red 5 studios, but the short version: The big boss Mark Kern changed the design direction on a whim, I personally saw the game's systems got overhauled 3 or 4 times, there was a lack of content, it was mainly a vicious cycle of getting resources and upgrading equipment. And at the end of the day players didn't like when all the effort they put in just got wiped when the next big patch came, multiple times in a row, "All your resources have been converted to this new resource!". Playerbase dropped and the free-to-play monetization system didn't keep the studio afloat.

Despite all the problems with Red5, there was still a chance to pull out of a crash. I was playing from 2011 to 2014 and the game had been slowly improving. What really put the nail in the coffin was the sale to The9, a Chinese company. From that moment on, the "updates" and roll-outs were massively broken, and every supposed "fix" just broke the game more. It didn't help that one of the early things The9 did was to fire EVERY LAST MEMBER of the development team on the same day. Even the forum moderators were replaced with a single moderator from China who sounded more like a pitchman than a moderator. No communication from the company otherwise. Multiple zones were broken beyond use and closed. Despite some bugs, in its zenith, Firefall was an amazing game. At the end, we were almost begging for it to be put out of its misery.
