My parents were together 19 years and married then devorced within a year, so a total of 20 years together. They are very resentful towards each other and can to this day, 10 years after their devorce, not have a simple respectful form of communication. Not in person, not on the phone, not in letters. To my father it was a total surprise but he feels used by her. My mother felt there was no way out, so she stayed. Untill she found what she saw as a safe exit. I think the thing is that all they have been through was really miserable so they really want to forget it.
YT _Irresponsible I’m not OP but my parents divorced after 25 years and was an adult. It’s really difficult and uncomfortable but the one thing you can control is yourself and how you react to them. You can speak up when things are rough. You can tell them you aren’t okay. You can tell them you need to talk to someone else (like a therapist). You might find it easier to talk about how much it hurts to someone who isn’t your parents. Over time, if you take care of yourself, you can heal. ❤️ Good luck, friend.
@@tylerarmstrong9250 The hardest part is accepting that your parents are flawed human beings just like everyone else. I was 15 when my parents got divorced after a 20 year marriage and it felt like they took me on a very not fun rollercoaster ride. My parents have been together since they were 15, married at 18. They just celebrated their 40 th wedding anniversary, they love each other so much and have always been best friends.
Link is so relatabled here, when Rhett said "I know you've had to check before to see if something you said about your childhood was unusual" I can relate, I used to say things that I thought were normal all the time just to look up and see everyone giving me the wtf look, nothing bad I was just very sheltered and so I was unusual and not great at socializing, I think.
I just got married in my 30's and my husband 40's ...I'm so glad I waited. Please.... we have too much freedom in society. Marriage isnt this holy grail about waiting to find yourself blah blah blah. You can find yourself during a relationship. Before the 1980s, people got married between 18-25 and the divorce rates were under 10%, AND they stayed together forever. We're going backwards because of too much freedom.
I've been processing a nasty breakup of a serious, two year college relationship and this video just brought me so much peace. I think it's really easy to take the failing of a young romantic relationship as a personal failure when it's so much more about the strength and nature of your commitment.
Rhett you’re such an intelligent guy and you tend to not show that side of you on gmm because it’s all about comedy. But on ear biscuits it really shows and link is just adorable and silly. Two smart guys.
You’re allowed to be woke AND create content. We need both. We desperately need both, for mental health’s sake. We are allowed to be activists and take a break. My husband and I did a hand fasting. In the pagan religion we had a private ceremony, where we stayed married for one year and a day. After that year and a day we returned to the high priest and made our decision to stay married or mutually go our separate ways. It was the best decision we made, been together for 13 years and still going.
I think Rhett missed what Link was trying to get at by saying Christie Turlington might still be modeling. He was trying to say 30 years have passed and she's still in good shape and modelling. It was one of those "dang Rhett, we're old" moments
I just recently started watching Ear Biscuits, been a long time GMM fan. I gotta say, I love it. I spend more time on TH-cam watching and rewatching your various types of shows than I do on Netflix or any other streaming service. I dunno if you'll see this comment, but I suffer from severe anxiety; depression and somedays, your shows are the only thing I can put on to stay calm and grounded.
There's something called the "Cheating Detection Heuristic" which is studied in Social Psychology/Evolutionary Psychology that is akin to what Rhett is talking about in regards to "vibes" it's really cool!
I feel like I had the exact same experience as Rhett with married at first sight, I was looking for a "mental checkout" show and ended up moved and FASCINATED by the power and influence of commitment. Highly recommend 👌
I was 23 and my husband was 21 when we got married. We'd already been together for 5 years. We've been married 17 years this year. Honestly, growing up together is so beautiful. Having a deep, unconditional love leads to the commitment and trust that all marriages thrive on. It's not easy, sometimes it's bloody hard! Completely worth fighting for, though. ❤️
I remember this one Thanksgiving where my mom invited my childhood friends parents over and even though they were smiling in our faces, when they left, I told my mom, they are either divorced or they are on their way there. I watched them when they came in, how they moved through room, and even if you're a couple who isn't touchy feely, there are signs that a couple is in sync from how they reference one another, to sustained eye contact, to obvious body language, but even when they were sitting side by side, it felt like there was a 10 foot space between them. Sure enough, two months later, he had moved to Egypt and she moved to be close to her daughter and they got a not so secret divorce.
This is my first time listening to an Ear Biscuits, even though ive been watching the show for years. It's incredible how vulnerable these to figures can be. Yall are incredible
I’m 36 and I’ve never been married and have no kids. I never really thought that was who I was going to be. A wife or a mother. Some people don’t get it. I’m a “unicorn” is what I hear. Lol. I LOVED this episode! Cool shirt Link.
I'm 20 right now and I'm honestly not feeling all the rage about relationships. Like I get it, it would be dope if I were with someone I truly love, but I don't see myself benefiting from that at this point of my life. I think improving on myself first is what's most important right now.
Just a few Mythical Beasts watching the incredible spacewalk (while they changed the batteries on the ISS) wishing each other a GMM! Was nice to see other people from this community hanging out somewhere else!
Having been in a long-term relationship since I was 15 (now 27), I definitely relate to what Rhett is saying about having to work through potential incompatibilities that were not present at the start of the relationship because we had not yet become the people we eventually would be. We're still in the process of figuring out who we are, which I think never really stops, and that is something not a lot of people bear in mind when they get together/married: that just because you're at close to 100% compatibility now, doesn't mean that you wont have issues you have to find your way through as you change and grow in different ways. That's just a natural part of being together for a long time, but it's that process of working through those changes together that makes it so rewarding and worthwhile :)
I have been listening to ear biscuits every morning for the past year now. It’s interesting to hear y’all point of view of stuff. And a great way to start my morning and get me focused on anything but staying in bed
seeing a lot of positive comments about link here, i felt quite differently. i’ve noticed that often when people are judgmental about divorce and/or make assumptions about other married people it is because they are insecure and fear being abandoned or losing the marriage they have.
insecurities and fear of being abandoned are all normalities and some people suffer more of this than others. maybe it's about being so in love and holding onto the greatest thing you've ever experienced or just not wanting to waste your time and having to start all over with somebody new. what is love if it's not worth fighting for? then again people are afraid to love based on the fear of getting hurt, not receiving love , etc.
Am I the only one who still isn't used to hearing them cuss? Not that it's a bad thing by any means because I cuss a lot lol, it's just throws me off for some reason 🤷♂️

I was 20 & my husband was 22 and have been married 36 years. Yes I do feel that why our marriage is successful is because we “grew up” together, we met in college. But I have always loved a quote from the actress Jessica Tandy. When asked how she & Hugh Cronin gave stayed married for so many years she responded that “we were never out of love at the same time”. To me that statement shows that you have to ride out the bad times. Marriage is something you always have to work on.
Your guys' quick conversation on the BLM movement at the beginning of this podcast...was amazing. Thank you both for being such wonderful people. Thank you for addressing that we, as a nation, cannot treat this as a trend and cannot move on until real change has occurred. You two are absolute inspirations.
I’m sure I’m not the only Mythical Beast that feels this way, but all of the content that you guys put out helps us feel something good in a world full of hate and negativity. I mean that in today’s society, what life was 5 years ago, and what life will be in 5 years. You guys have been that constant source of “feel good”. It’s what gets us through. ❤️
Usually I’d listen on Spotify but this episode seems interesting enough I want to watch their reactions for once, even though I’ve been watching them for years and I can guess their visual reaction.
Dangit Rhett! I never watch "trashy" reality shows and would never have given married at first sight a second thought, but now I kinda want to watch it.
"You can wear the (mythical) ethos " Link Neal. Love that quote. It describes exactly why I have so much GMM and RandL gear. It's also why I watch EB later in the week (as well as listen) . There are some special tidbits and differences, when the ads are playing on the audio podcast.
Never watched Small Wonder but I looked up what "Vici" stands for. "Voice Input Child Identicant." Things like that will just stay in my head if I don't look them up.
I had a realization when I was telling my son about how his dad and I met. We worked together, and I was dating another person at the same job. 2 1/2 months after we met, we moved in together. We did eventually get married, and are celebrating 20 years together next month. Neither one of us is the same person we were 20 years ago. Staying married is commitment more than anything else for us.
I'm glad you touched on BLM and I'm glad you touched on how uncomfortable everything is. People need to feel the tension, because we're so comfortable with things that shouldn't make us feel comfortable.
It helps so much to talk about the hard stuff. Talk about cheating. Talk about divorce. Talk about custody of your kids or how you would handle a serious illness. Talk about death. Be honest about what you would expect from your spouse and what you would do in those situations. I believe a lack of communication and not being open with each other has a lot to do with marital problems.
My husband and I said when we got married that we would never say the word divorce unless one of us actually wanted one. That way it's not thrown around as a threat. 25 years later, we still dont use that word, even though we both have felt it in hard times , lol. But, we have always come through those times on the other side.
I'm 23 (f) and just proposed to my partner, 25 (m), after 5 years together. It feels crazy bc we've been together since I was 18, grown changed, bought a home together, feels like we've lived a whole life and now it's going to be a whole new start of our married life together!
Truly appreciated the insight you guys both gave toward the latter half of this podcast on marriage/relationships. Will be reflecting on the points you made when it comes to my own life and considering marriage down the road, because those decisions can be daunting! Thanks y’all 💕 - a 22 year old still figuring out life
I married my husband at 19, and now I'll be 31 this year, we have 2 kids, and I'm still in love with that man. Still get butterflies when I see him, and I think about him while he's working. Marriage can not be perfect. But my gosh is it worthwhile. You definitely change in your 20s, but as long as there is communication, you change together. The kicker... I never slept with my husband, or lived with my husband before I married him.
I got into a Married at First sight hole on TH-cam with the Australian versión and there were people who purposefully cheated on their partner with other people’s partners on the show and it was so devastating to see how self centered and inconsiderate people are. Some were even give the option to switch partners which was crazy

Its sort of a red flag if you fantasize about having absolute control over another living being. Power Dynamic fetishes are what drive a lot of serial killers to commit the heinous acts they do. Like defiling corpses like Ted Bundy or sleeping with gay guys then murdering them like John Wayne Gacy, stuff like that is a power dynamics thing. Obviously extreme examples but I imagine things like that are a pretty slippery slope. To my father it was a total surprise but he feels used by her. My mother felt there was no way out, so she stayed. Untill she found what she saw as a safe exit. I think the thing is that all they have been through was really miserable so they really want to forget it.
Hello Veronica my parents just recently got a divorce after 22 years and I’m only 14 do you have any advice on how to get through the hard times?
Just trust that life will settle down and you will find your new normal. Try not to blame your parents forever for their mistakes but know that it is okay to be mad at them right now. You have the right to feel however you need to feel.
I totally relate to Link's middle school fear/discomfort of my family knowing I had a crush/relationship. I still do. Halp.
My parents have been together since they were 15, married at 18.
They just celebrated their 40 th wedding anniversary, they love each other so much and have always been best friends.
That's a beautiful story
The reason your parent's marriage lasts long them being best friends and having strong faith in each other.
Awww
Thats great
Me and my wife just hit 10 years and have been together since 15 and married at 19, being married to your best friend is awesome.
Thank you, Link. For admitting you feel overwhelmed constantly in your business and personal life. SAME.
As someone who finished that season of Married at First Sight already, I REALLY want a reaction video after Rhett completes the season.

I found out who I was, what would be deal breakers, was able to grow in my career and can support myself etc. If I would have married my high school "love" I would be stuck in my hometown with multiple kids working in the factory, and miserable.
I don’t think those are the only two ways to go
That better be a 2-4 year difference and not a 31yr & a 49yr old marriage
@@pug5967 why should it be? A 31 year old is a grown ass adult. If they happens to find love with a 49 yo there's not really an issue. As long as it wasn't going on since they were like 19 or somethin

Please.... we have too much freedom in society.
Rhett and Link always manage to have such profound yet such funny conversations and I love it
You’re allowed to be woke AND create content. We need both. We desperately need both, for mental health’s sake. We are allowed to be activists and take a break. I’ve been protesting on the right side of history for years. The nature of my work throws the news in my face daily. I need a fun and positive outlet. It’s ok.
I’m 31 and been married for 12 years this October, honestly married my most best friend and still couldn’t be happier. Nobody asked but cheers lol

Never ceases to amaze me how much the two of them have evolved over the years and are able to convey that experience in a meaningful, inviting manner.

My husband and I did a hand fasting. In the pagan religion we had a private ceremony, where we stayed married for one year and a day. After that year and a day we returned to the high priest and made our decision to stay married or mutually go our separate ways. It was the best decision we made, been together for 13 years and still going.
that’s really interesting

Rhett and link are so real and genuine. They are the dads I feel I can openly be myself with and speak to, to ask their advice.
you never realize how mature and grounded they are until you watch ear biscuits.. it's such an amazing contrast with gmm

Anybody else really like Rhett's shirt?
I also like links shirt

I love that crane shirt. It is some serious swag.
Yes he does.......aren't we all?
Love these conversations! I totally enjoy gmm and gm kitchen, but ear biscuits give us such a deeper look into who these men are.

I'm 20 right now and I'm honestly not feeling all the rage about relationships. Like I get it, it would be dope if I were with someone I truly love, but I don't see myself benefiting from that at this point of my life. I think improving on myself first is what's most important right now.
I look forward to having my sunday morning coffee while stimulating my brain with ear earbiscuits.
Off topic - but can I just say how nice it was to see other Mythical Beasts in the chat during the NASA spacewalk live stream the other day!
What did they do?
That intro was WAY more intense than them getting to a question in 30 seconds lol

About the robot girl crush. I used to have a crush on Jenny the robot from My Life as a Teenage Robot. But that was a cartoon, and I was a kid

I would be really curious to hear how your changing beliefs were explained to your kids at the time. Thanks for your openness in these episodes!
I honestly love this podcast. Best start of my week. This one especially has given me some stuff to think about.

After Rhett finishes that season of Married at First Sight I'm gonna need an update of all his feelings...

"The world... I dont know what to say" sums it up perfectly 🤣😂

Thank you for looking it up.
Lol
I had a realization when I was telling my son about how his dad and I met. We worked together, and I was dating another person at the same job. 2 1/2 months after we met, we moved in together.
We did eventually get married, and are celebrating 20 years together next month. Neither one of us is the same person we were 20 years ago. Staying married is commitment more than anything else for us.
#Earbiscuits is so underrated. 💙
I wouldn't say it's underrated. It's won several awards and gets quite a lot of recognition.
I'm glad you touched on BLM and I'm glad you touched on how uncomfortable everything is. People need to feel the tension, because we're so comfortable with things that shouldn't make us feel comfortable.
"They got PHDs and shit." lmaooo feels weird hearing rhett swear
Shit isnt a swear word. But its s bad Word.
Rhett, the season you're watching is actually season 9. I just finished it. You can watch the other seasons on Hulu 😊
Truly appreciated the insight you guys both gave toward the latter half of this podcast on marriage/relationships. Will be reflecting on the points you made when it comes to my own life and considering marriage down the road, because those decisions can be daunting! Thanks y’all 💕

59:40 “I’m committed to dancing with you” is how I am going to propose
At 13 minutes in I realized the back and forth editing fast paced makes everything better. Your team can produce great content with great talent of course you two. You guys would make great radio morning show personality..
Link talks about having a crush on a child on tv when he was a child. It sounds like a cute little kid crush, he also said no he wasnt thinking of her naked. He thought it was cool that she was a robot. Rhett instantly tries to say Link maybe wants to control women in some sick way somehow... I was like that went zero to one hundred real quick! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
I think that's what Rhett was getting at, not that he was actually making accusations towards Link, that's just a little what link sounded like if you were to take his words at face value .
