Congratulations to Josh McGrath and Peterborough Police Services! Finally answers for the family and for the public. Condolences to the victims family.
I'm glad the Otonabee River Man has finally been identified as Gerald Durocher. A great job to all involved. Thank you Othram and especially Michael Vogen. As a resident of Peterborough I am eternally grateful...🙏 🥲 😊
genetic genealogy has been amazing at identifying victims & suspects in very old cold cases. truly incredible science that i know so many people are thankful to have answers to decades old questions. i’ve even seen a couple over 100 years old!! the existing family was aware of the story but obviously didn’t know their family member that disappeared, or died & case never solved, so they were still very happy to have answers 😊❤️
Hopefully this is the start of all Canadian police forces getting to ID unknown victims using DNA. Those photos of Gerald really bring his face back into the public to see he was a person like anyone else and one day help to (ideally) bring his murderer to justice. Although 1988 simultaneously seems like yesterday and like a faded dream of a time long forgotten, it'd be good of Gerald's friends to come forward and talk about him. Afterall its the only way forward.
