    When you make first cut on the stump, it will lean on the log and causing it to pinch in every cut you make. Really aggravating.
    Just a suggestion; Next time make the first cut near the stump only half way through (like you are doing already) but don't do the undercut just yet. Measure next log and cut half way, measure next and cut halfway until you are on last cut on the top, then cut that all the way through. Then go back and cut the rest of them using undercut starting from end so the final cut will be the one next to the stump. This way stump is not causing it to pinch and it also holds log higher and leaves a little space under the log, so you can do undercut without running the chain in the dirt.
    Downside is that you need to walk from bottom to end and back with every tree trunk, but cutting is so much easier, total time used is faster and risk of dulling the chain on dirt decreases dramatically.

    • @letsdig18
      @letsdig18  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah that makes sense, only problem is if I dont cut the stump off first, I cant tell if the log is hollow, therefore I will measure it for a sawlog but only discover it is rotten at the end. I do it this way so if its rotten I can just cut off a couple feet till its good then measure off that.

    • @SManninen
      @SManninen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh right, I didn't think of that. Now if there was someone with the excavator to lift stumps and logs off as soon as they are cut... ;)
      But sometimes when working only by yourself, you need to deal with it. And you are very good at that!

    When you tie the dam into that existing bank, will you key the bank so you don't get a straight soil line that could be a potentialleak point?

    • @TheOtherBill
      @TheOtherBill 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He removed the stumps and most of the roots. He also said they'll get the rest later. Wood is not the best thing to place a dam on.

  • @stevehansen5389

    Those stumps will make good fish cover down in the bottom of the pond. That is if you can not get them to burn away.

    • @KohlfyreProductions
      @KohlfyreProductions 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pond is for irrigation of a 96 acre farm. Not for fishing 🐟...yet. you have to let the ecology set itself up first before introducing aquatic life to make sure it's sustainable.

    • @FishFind3000

      letsdig18 you should invest in a 462 or a 661 also dirt doesn’t help.

    • @NCSUME1
      @NCSUME1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hand file mine right out of the box as they sometimes aren't as sharp as you would expect to start with...the few minutes it takes to polish em up is more than made up for by how much faster/easier it cuts...I'm no logger, but run a Farm Boss w/ a 20" bar when i need to...it runs an 18" much better, it really doesn't have the power to run the 20" like it should...
