      @@kinnywolf2255 All companies are good. Yet all companies are bad. Good is what you make it same as bad. I was at a chemical tank hauling outfit that was considered the best, Chemical Leahman Tank Lines of Lionville, PA. Turned out to be the worst decision for me. It led me to what other people called a bad company, Prime, Inc and made out like Gangbusters there. It is what you make of it. Good luck.

    I've been watching your videos ever since I started my trucking career at the age of 21, im 23 now. I can say cheerfully that all I know about trucking is through experience and watching your videos. I've been preparing myself to purchase a truck sometime August 2021 and watching your videos has helped me know what i need to prepare for and how much $$$ I need to have saved up (more than I expected but the more the better).Keep up the great work and being an awesome mentor to us young folks willing to follow your footsteps!

    As you grow as a driver and especially if you become a owner operator and you can manage your time efficiently, you can become a small amount of a tourist. This becomes especially true if you master your trip planning so you can take U.S. routes instead of interstates, Shelby (HBTM) used to regularly run through yellow stone just to be able to have lunch near a very scenic river.
    The number one thing I have found though with having a class A CDL, job security, its very easy to get a job. I left the road for a couple years and when I decided to come back, I had a high paying job within a week, and within 2 years I now own my truck.

    • @theHammr88
      @theHammr88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a Shelby & Dakota fan too! She's so cool! So, to buy your own truck did you save up and pay cash or get up a good down payment for financing? How'd ya do it?

    • @andrewkellerhals1361
      @andrewkellerhals1361 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@theHammr88 Angel investor, sort of. My dispatcher actually bought it for me under his business credit since I am still building mine and no one wants to finance a 20yr old truck, if I was buying a newer truck, I could've been financed no problem. He signed the paperwork, but I've paid all down payments and fees and made the monthly payments. Before you ask, no, I am not afraid of him screwing me out of my truck, he's not only my dispatcher, but a close friend and a mentor. I was looking for a very specific truck as well, not one that you can easily find at most dealers, besides where I bought mine, or in the truck paper. I got mine at Ohio Truck Sales, if you go to them, make sure to know the truck inside and out before you go, mine had a few problems, but all things I was prepared for by learning everything I could about the motor and an older truck. If you don't have a specific truck like mine or do not want to learn about the truck before you buy it, I'd probably buy from a fleet like Pedigree (Prime's Dealership). If you have no desire at all, to learn everything you possibly can about any truck buy, then I recommend NOT buying one. The "I'm a driver not a mechanic" saying goes out the window as well as most other habits you pick up as a company driver once YOU own the truck.
      I honestly don't recommend paying in cash outright, unless you've got that kind of money. You want at least 10 grand freed up and a couple 0 balance credit cards, before you go down the ownership road, it's not uncommon to drop a few thousand dollars in one trip to the mechanic.

      There are two that are not allowed. Thkse 2 are the inly things that are not loaded on trucks. Yes liquid explosuves are carried on trucks. If I could just remember the actual name of them I would let you know. My mind is telling me Nitroglycerin liquid is one of them due to the volatility. Ut can only be done via rail. I can not remember the other one. When I do I will pass it along. 👍

    Maybe years ago you could say a large percentage of truckers "have diesel in their veins" but lately, because just about anyone can obtain a CDL it's a lower percentage
    They go as fast as they come

    • @mr.butterworth
      @mr.butterworth 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Chucky F-U That’s probably always been true. Truth be told, it wasn’t any more difficult to obtain commercial licensing before the CDL, it was possibly easier. Back then there was the chauffeur’s license, or some variation depending on the state. Training - if any, was not standardized, and *very* on the job.
      That willy nilly nature of the industry was largely the reason for the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act (1986) which brought about the CDL.

    In all honesty truck driving isn’t something I’d recommend to someone unless they were young and single and had intentions of starting their own company. As a company driver you can make $1,500 a week after some experience whether OTR or local and that’s fine but you’re working upwards 70 hours a week. Being a company driver is really like the equivalent of a $15-17/hour if you factor in overtime pay. You can make that in most areas at a factory, and make almost if not more taking up another trade and working less hours and being home every day. I went the truck driving route because I want to start my own company in a year or two. I’m taking home over a thousand a week as a rookie but I’m also working 60-70 hour weeks and have only taken a week off all year. My buddy is a welder. Works 8-9 hours a day Monday through Friday and takes home the same I do.

    How in the world do truck drivers balance family life with being on the road all the time? I just don't see how that can work especially if children are involved. Is there a high divorce rate among truck drivers? I asked out of respect because I am considering getting a CDL but I don't want to make a mistake and jeopardize my family life. What are the drawbacks? What are the advantages? Any input that you experienced truckers can give me or advice will be greatly appreciated.
