i moved into an old house with an open fireplace. I've been told there is a "back boiler" which heats the water and radiators when the fire is lit . There is a switch which apparently pumps the hot water into the radiators ? The fire is lit i switch on the pump (i can hear bubbling noise) but no warm radiators or hot water . Can someone explain, why not ?
Frank W sounds like you need to bleed the radiators, ps. the heat will transfer by Convection through the system without turning on the pump if the systems heat levers are in ON Position.
this guys bound to be old enough to remember Firelighters were invented to do away with the need for kindlers. and 1 firelighters big enough for such a tiny grate as that.
i would like to hear more about what looks like, chainmail curtains either side of the fireplace!
We used to manage with a rolled up copy of the daily mirror and a few sticks...
I would love to have an open fire installed. Any advise on whether it’s worthwhile having one installed ?
They are really not energy efficient at keeping your house warm. They may look nice but becoming a very old measure
Get a stove. They are far more energy efficient.
Not worth it I do it for fun because it looks nice 👍
Thank you! :D

@@douglastodd1947 i did bleed but there is no different. When the heating runs on heating oil there is no bubbling noise ?
With that big blow torch , who needs fire lighters?

What a load of fuff just to light a fire, paper and sticks and a match is all you need
