    I don't know who had the bright idea that featuring you Laura in a series of You Tube videos might be successful but the idea is more than BRILLIANT. Like countless others I'd watch you doing virtually anything because you do everything with class, experience, great explanations and of course you are a long way from ugly!!!

    Have you thought your back problems could be triggered by a vehicle seat? It happened to me once. I was in pain after every two weeks and spent alternate weekends lying on the floor. Then I swapped my small car for a bigger one and was cured, just like that. It turned out it was the angle between the seat and backrest. Another fascinating video. I'm discovering so much about farming and the newer machines.

    One of those rules of farming. Your worst trouble/screwups always happen by the road so all the neighbors see it!

    Great video as always... nice to see someone that's both embarrassed and not embarrassed to show their mistakes. Most people like to edit their videos for the perfect shot. At work we always stress it's easier to own up to your mistakes so we can fix it and move on instead of trying to hide it and not say anything. I prefer your video style... dropped phone once in awhile and showing your mistakes you learn from....

    Liked how you explained the screens when you were setting up the tractor, plus the fact you did not edit out your little faux pas, how else would non-farming folks know what happens when working on the farm. Enjoyed the Grant segment also.

    Laura, look into back supports, they wrap on with Velcro. I know a lot of people who use them, even young people like you. Also, take a good look at your tractor seats, a cushion that keeps the weight off your coccyx (tailbone) may be very helpful.

    • @jwenting
      @jwenting 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yeah, best get a well adjustable back support put in now rather than needing a custom built seat and be tossing back pain killers all day in a few years.

    Sounds nuts but run tractor full half hour and then stop and walk three circles around your tractor and then get back in it is quick but necessary. They say every human should not sit more than twenty minutes. Use the timer on your phone!!!!!

    When I plant into 6-7’ green covers, people pull over and watch.
    I used to terminate with crimpers right on the planter. God bless anyone for which that is working. Now I make a pass just for terminating with roller crimper. It is more effective.
    Great job on using covers. I’m sure it contributes heavily to your success. I haven’t purchased fertilizer or pesticides in 20 years. The yield reduction and premium for the product are a dead tie for me, but I’m getting a multiple crops every year.

    Really envious of you and Grant working in the field. Sort of makes me homesick to climb on a tractor; and maybe I'll have to throw my tenants off of their tractors when they get here so I can drive. Actually, they're great and I can ride along with them whenever I want. To me, Hamilton County Nebraska is beautiful. I really liked the Ag. museum in Aurora; and when I could drop my trailer at Iam's I would go there to visit with the guy that ran it. - Missouri Farmer Doug.

Fast forward 40 years, and I finally searched on turnip, to find out the wax coating is sprayed on to protect, or preserve the turnip? Is that right?

    Worrying about what the neighbours think is inversely proportional to the number of neighbours you have.
    My mother-in-law was raised in a very rural and part or Ireland. When you looked from her house in every direction to the horizon, you saw just 12 houses. Yet every one of those 12 neighbours knew what she had breakfast and her entire family history.
    My father worked in inner London in the 1950s. He loved the unanimity of that densely populated city, nobody cared about what the neighbours did as it wasn't physically possible, there was just too many of them to do such a thing.

    We had an old neighbor who farmed with a steel wheeled Farmall F-12 on a two bottom steel wheeled plow and when it plugged he had a pump oil can filled with kerosene and he would just stop facing into the wind give the corn stalks a few squirts with the oiler, roll a cigarette , light up with a wooden Ohio Blue Tip kitchen match, and then toss the match into the pile and watch it disappear while he enjoyed a smoke. No tires, no paint, no problem!
