Reference to Led Zepplin with those signatures in the fan book, along with the Beatles and Elvis. 3. The portrayal of a convention on the annoying side, now we just need the happy side of the fandom. 4. The return of Iron Will and some good micro lessons. 5. A main lesson aimed at adults who work so much they forget about themselves. Dr. Wolf and other reactors took this to heart.
Aw man, you missed Cadence's line about how easy it was for her to see "the line" that had to be drawn once she had Flurry Heart. Or at least, it seemed like you did, lol. I thought that was a perfect line, because of how true it is. Children can make parents a lot more capable at saying "no" when they found it hard or even impossible to before.
A thing that I really love with Iron Will is that he's always reasonably. I mean he was ok with Fluttershy's protest. Sure that lie about the trip was a little douchie, but he did tell the truth at the end. Plus he's always prepaird.
Love this episode, so much feels and Cadance's best characterization to date so far. And I love the personalities of the parents. And seeing Iron Will again was fantastic and I loved how Spike was willing to stay behind to let Twilight have a vacation, and seeing Twilight say that Spike was just as part of her family as the others was just heart warming. Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.
Well, people, what have we learned? _Always read the fine print._ One minute, you're accepting a free vacation. The next, you're slapped into a publicity stunt for tourism. In all seriousness, this is both a sweet and sad episode. First, the sweet. It was wonderful seeing Her Royal Studiousness spending some time with her whole family: parents, brother, sister-in-law, and niece. Not just that, but she called Spike part of her family, too, and that he shouldn’t miss out. Still, major kudos to Spike in this episode, for convincing Twi to take time away and cheerfully volunteering to do her work for her. This is what I like to see for him: that he isn’t just comic relief and a target for slapstick. He’s competent, compassionate, and mature, always looking out for the mare who’s both mother and sister to him. Bravo, little buddy. Bra-vo. =) Seeing the individual personalities of Twilight’s family members brought out in this was absolutely heartwarming to behold; such sweet, kind, and loving ponies. It’s definitely easy to see that Twilight may get her organizational tendencies from her father, given Night Light’s fondness for bingo and how it’s structured. As for Twilight Velvet, she continues this season’s trend of adorable mothers. First we had Windy Whistles, who was heartwarmingly energetic and sweet-natured. Then we had Buttercup, who was gentle, kind, and witty. And now we have Velvet, a loving, caring thrillseeker. =) Also loved the running gag of Shining Armor being airsick; takes away from his position as a prince or a guard and shows him as the lovable goofball he is, with Cadence taking it in stride, XD. And, of course, Flurry being the precious little munchkin she always is. =) For all of his lack of personal space (which Twilight admitted she should've said something about), Star Tracker seems like a really sweet guy. And hey, even if we might not all act just like him in a similar situation, no one can deny what an absolute treat it must be to get to spend some time with someone you idolize. And by the end, he proved to be a real stand-up guy, earning his title as honorary family member. Suffice to say, I wasn’t too happy with Iron Will in this one. When he first appeared, he was pushy and aggressive, and perhaps a little greedy, but he was still reasonable, and backed down when Fluttershy made it clear that she wasn’t satisfied. Here, going from a legitimate business to something like this, roping Twilight and her family into a tourism cruise, and then guilt-tripping them with the process of letting everypony on board down if they refused to take part, just felt a little...Flim Flam Brothers-ish, if you know what I mean. And now the sad. Twilight just wanted everypony, especially her loved ones, to be happy and enjoy themselves, and she was willing to sacrifice her own happiness to make it happen, by doing what Iron Will wanted so her family could do what they wanted. I think we all know what it feels like to give up on doing what we want for the sake of others, though to varying degrees. Even though seeing the Northern Stars was the one thing she really wanted to do, we could see how much it hurt not being able to do anything else with her family. It hurts to see her look so dejected and sad. Did she bring it upon herself by making that deal with Iron Will? Yes, but no one should deny the compassion and self-sacrifice that went into that decision. I’m glad you saw it, too, Luffy. Still, seeing her miss out on the one thing she wanted to do, breaking down into tears, before snapping at everypony, was just heartbreaking…
I was totally prepared to not necessarily hate Star Tracker, but be totally annoyed by him and wish that he would just go away... Then I saw how they evolved his character at the end, and now I kind of want to see more of him (even though that'll likely never happen). He's really just one of those awkward, young super fans who can't help but be starstruck and goofy around someone they admire, which I found awkwardly cute.
This is a great episode. It was nice to see Twilight interacting with her family and caring about them. Also when she started to cry, it was really hard to see, it hit me right in the feels. I like the way they are showing Cadence as the voice of reason, first with Spike in Princess Spike and now with Twilight in this episode. She may not appear regularly, but when she is in an episode she usually is well developed and I like that.
When I watched this episode for the first time, it had slightly distorted audio. I didn't recognize Iron Will's voice until he actually appeared on screen, which made it really surprising.

I love Cadance in this episode. For some reason her faces are hilarious without any cartoony over-exaggeration. Favorite moment being when she gets amused by Twilight revealing Shining's tendency to get airsick. Or the face as she walks away from the other foals and their mothers after that peewee playtime thing. Maybe it's just because of her different head shape? It's kind of mystifying actually now that I think about it, Cadance isn't a particularly deep character, I can't even name any flaws or anything interesting about her (apart from maybe her being an outstanding singer compared to the pony average of just "good"), but the show makes her just so charming and pleasant that I can't not like her. And it's something unique to her because I've been berating certain other characters for the same things (lacking flaws or anything interesting going for them), but they completely fail to duplicate this paradox of just being a joy for every second of screentime.

This is a fantastic episode. One of those that will always be fun to come back to and watch. :) About a lot of people feeling like Twilight is being "left behind" as the show's gone on, I honestly never felt that way, and think people who do are a bit short-sighted. I feel her character's moved to a point where it's now fine she's not in quite so many episodes. And I feel it's been a natural evolution of the show for that to happen. Seems those people just want the same over and over, whereas I think the show's done the smart thing in trying new things and exploring new boundaries, and a natural part of it is to slowly move on and let go from the Mane 6 a little bit, for new stories to take place. We had 4 seasons almost FULL of Twilight, so it's a very welcome change imo, and then when we do get great episodes like this with her occasionally, it's always awesome. But the truth is, we don't NEED to see quite so much of her at this point in the series, especially in a main role. If anything, the early seasons are to blame for people feeling this way. We had so much Twilight early on in the series (so much it's kinda ridiculous looking back. She was in EVERY episode of S1) that now people feel like she's being left behind because she's "only" a main character in like 1/4th of the episodes per season. But if we had stayed the route of the early seasons where every episode was either focused entirely on Twilight or the Mane 6, for all seven seasons, then the show would've gotten really stale at this point.

PONY MOVIE SPOILER but seeing this episode's Twilight crying scene directly after seeing the movie's Twilight crying scene, it may have lost some effect on me initially. Which is unfortunate. The whole beach scene in the movie though, that wrecked me the first time I saw it.
This was a pretty decent episode to me. It wasn't anything particularly amazing to me, but don't let that fool you I still very much enjoyed it through and through. I just didn't feel that "wow" factor like I did with some other episodes I would deem great and awesome. Though I still had emotions for Twilight.... after all she's tied as my favorite alongside Dash. :) But, my opinion can obviously change to whereas I think this episode is a phenomenal episode. All it takes is a second viewing of course. Lastly, Crash music at the end. Cool touch.
