This is so much a modern take on the gothic cliché of the mad scientist playing the organ while a storm rages outside the castle. Please could you laugh like a maniac for a minute?
This is amaising!!! 1000 oscilators!! Damn!!! Imagine Keith emmerson in 1968, with his 3 oscilator Moog, that would get hot during shows amd start malfunctionning! You made a Moog 9000!!
I get the sense that we're still just scratching the surface of what you can do with that many oscilators. But building an interface for them that makes things manageable is quite an invention in and of itself.
Would be a ton of work but what if he set it up so the oscillators could ring modulate eachother? Or even each whole group of oscillators modulating the other groups.
It really needs to be set up for 24 channels -- 12 notes, split into left and right, with each channel's oscillators set to span several octaves... and then control it with 12 buttons. Play it chromatically, typically two notes at a time. I tried this with a sample of the kilodrone, sampled from a bit where he had the entire thing tuned to a single note across all octaves... and it works really well. It totally fills the sonic spectrum, so there's only room for 2 or maybe 3 notes at a time... and no real need for additional octaves on the controller because going up or down an octave sounds almost exactly the same with such a huge sound. It could be nice to duplicate the control buttons though, to give the player two "octaves" and make it easier to play in keys other than C.
LMNC obviously has a fantastic channel and the museum looks great, but I can’t help but think he would make an incredible show for 10 to 15 year olds to learn about electronics. His ability to explain things in a simple manner is very impressive.
7:57 Back in the day when I was in the electronics industry working as a bench tech a fellow colleague was twisting wire using this method, however; he attached the end of the wires to a huge top heavy locker cabinet and began running the drill to twist the wire. He pulled the entire cabinet over in the process.....that sounded like thunder when it hit the floor ;) Needless to say he received a few whistles and applauses LOL This project has been very impressive. I wish you success with the museum
Sounds beautiful in pad mode with long attack and release times. I think you made the right choices and limitations for this museum controller. Well done indeed.
An idea I had for your soundproducing equipment in the museum, having an audio out jack that visitors can plug their handheld recorders into and sample bits of sound from them would be neat :)
who can do a thing like the megadrone, else a mad scientist? ;-) he is the perfect example of the frontier between genius and madness ( yes in a good way ) .
might I suggest some sort of foot peddle to turn it on and once someone walks away it releases and turns the sound off or the whole unit off. Do you have yourself a 3d printer? if so FDM or Resin?
i used to wind wire like that at the electronics firm i worked for........ except mine ran the length of the factory floor.... also the amount of twist per inch can affect the voltage tolerances.
Bizarrely, that little snippet between 11:45 and 11:55 reminds me of the synth pads at the end of Godley & Creme’s song Cry! I don’t think even Trevor Horn has ever recorded a thousand drones bless him! I’m loving this project mate 😎
That tone is absolutely bonkers. The discreet detuning of each chord makes it so unique and epic. So glad you took the time to set up chords for progressions (you should set them to the circle of fifths 😎)
Nice, that is what I had planned for the DS lite mini machine, but just using push buttons as breakers, so like no fancy AR or VCA, and single notes instead of chords, but atleast you found good use of the S9018s. :D
I want to see you build a box with only one button that you press for this that gives you the THX sound 😊 Maybe electromechanical to do the pitch changes?!
There is a patch on the Korg prologue 16 which pretty much nails it ;) Have a look at Luke from Korg demo it with Jack on the Andertons music channel. Kudos to this guy here however . I love dedication and work. I think with some time and tweaking this monster hes built could be a thing of legend.
@@upsetbobble Yes Korg have used versions of that sound on a few of their synths. I remember owning an X5 twenty or so years ago and they had it on that keyboard too.
I put this guy in the same genius category as John Cage, Wendy Carlos, and Raymond Scott (sorry I’m American; I’m sure there are music genius UK people too). It’s just awesome to see people doing things like this.
Sounds like a huge orchestra sample. Try some filters on it. Btw.: Just realized that in this configuration this is 1000 oscillators polyphonic analog synth. I would call this another worldrecord.
museums should be calling you to pay you for design time with exhibits and displays. this is so good I don't want to push through my high to find a word.
Lovely video again!!!! I was thinking, you should collab with Collab with Colin Benders!!! Would be sick to see you guys create a modular synth and play it together maybe even a 2-man-controlled synth?.....
I reckon you could get some unreal results if you carefully let some people tune it - maybe let someone book in and verify they can actually do it. Some composer type person could make some seriously iconic sounds!!
Oh man, this monster is missing just another bank of 100 oscillators and you could tune it to all 11 semitones, then split every semitone through a bunch of LPFs/HPFs and octavers to build a full 88 keys keyboard :D
Name a Chord

G minor........
Ebmaj7 is a good one
This is so much a modern take on the gothic cliché of the mad scientist playing the organ while a storm rages outside the castle.
Please could you laugh like a maniac for a minute?
& put a sample of the laughter somewhere for those of us with tasty chips granny-synths to muck about with, aye.
he does have his version of a quite endearing maniac laugh. also has a good sense of humour
YOU FOOL!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE POWERS YOU TOY WITH
such an awesome sound!!!!
Hey look who it is!😁
Dope AMAZING
@doctor mix. I'm sure you're eagerly awaiting the day when this is in your studio. LOL
Hans Zimmer summoning device, he'll be over any minute now.
I was actually having flashbacks to soundtrack for _The Dig_: th-cam.com/video/d8kBCO8x2JE/w-d-xo.html
@@hjalfi for me it's the THX sound
-What instrument do you play?
-The Universe itself!
"Het universum zingt voor mij!"
i'm proud to be one of the many knobs that helped get this absolute monster done, love it
:D
me too, pretty proud of my knob
Ohh, right, I'm on a knob as well, lol
@@theRealMibsfine knobs at that!
@@gorman2001 a damn fine knob!

Highest respect 4 this channel. Just sick the amount of work that gets done. Great instruments and sounds. Thank you
I've never been to the UK but now i want to go if for no other reason than to see all these things in person at the museum of everything else

no way
this would be neat!
id definitely become a member and supporter right away which i wanna do btw soon
if not let everyone use it, one massive band/musician like chemical brothers... my example..(^///^)
Great sounding chords! I get a classic Prodigy “Out Of Space” vibe from it. They sound pretty warm too.
you should have a selfie gallery for people who visit the museum, literally everyone is gonna take a shot of themselves in front of the wall of knobs.
I'd for sure be one of those knobheads!
@@woutervvugt haha, yeah, 'wall of knobheads' would be a fantastic name for it too!

Awesome additions Sam . I must visit the museum when all is well in UK to do so.
Damn the mega drone just got a mega upgrade !!!!
Every time you post an update on this instrument it's awesomeness just increases by an order of magnitude. This thing is so dope!
You have mastered the art of noise.
Further research must be done to find the brown note
At minute 11:08 : The sound of the universe, really beautiful!

Getting some definite "Cardiacs" Sounds from those tuned chords :)

My favouritest channel as of now. Talent overload!
Really wonderful.
Reminds me of the 90s.
Also the old THX sound in the intro of movies in the late 80s. It was so cool
I’m betting that sounds a whole lot more impressive in person than through these tiny phone speakers.
haha couldn't relate more
Even a FLAC quality recording would help quite a bit, TH-cam compression is deffinitly dieing here
Hans Zimmer would love this i presume.
Or John Carpenter.
Or John travolta
It sounds a lot like oldskool awesome rave stabs! 👍👍👍👍👍

Wow! So MANY possibilities- and another great use for all those roto-speaker-leslies? Kudos, Sam!
MEGADRONE! WOOHOO! Can't wait to come to the museum!

Excellent explanation of what the controls on a synthesizer actually do.

Madness at its most beautiful existence.
So cool seeing you add control units to your Megadrone.
Amazing sound ! Perfect interactive controller for the kilo-drone !.
It was a great explanation of the attach and release times 😊👏
i am in love with the mad scientist vibe. i want wires running all over my house and blinking lights and knobs its amazing
Oh, heavenly! The Megadrone I can imagine being hired out to studios. What a way to start a track that would be.
The best thing to do when coming back at home at 4am is surely watching the last lmnc video 😀😀
So "modular synth modules are modular", gotcha...
I make my band watch your channel so we can get motivated. Cheers! 🎶

love the shot of the smoking drill at 5:43 haha
Hello from another one of your knobs! After hearing that improvisation, you should totally do a collab with Enya. It'd be epic.

You are simply Awesome!

maybe even a 2-man-controlled synth?.....
Gonna be super cool! If you were worried about someone leaving it on why not have a dead man's pedal that you have to stand on to operate the synth.
Leap Motion worth a shot as you can get 6 axis, or twice that when there is two hands.
The ultimate supersaw. I love it.
Nice save, Sam!
fantastic sound!
Send that DeWilt to AvE, he'd appreciate it!
11:17 Getting some Cardiacs vibes from this part.
Yep I said the same thing, he he :) Tim and gang would be proud :)
I don't know how i got here and i especially don't know what you're talking about, but this is sweet. Keep up the great videos!
do ya still have that old reverb speaker?? ...was a bit much bombin that bass and drums through it...i wanna see how it handles loud screamin...
Getting all these THX feels out here.
Very unique sound to it. 1000 piece orchestra.
This is insane, I need this synth of doom.
Genius, absolutely Amazing brilliant.
What if each button had three companion buttons to play the bass, tenor and alto divisions individually?
Need to get the scope under the desk hooked up to the output.
Naa it's voice controlled
Sound like THX Movie sound, amazing !

I wondered about making the kilodrone (or clip of it) the ring tone of the phone switch....
Sounds even better now with that controller
