  • This is a prototype headset I made after the original was broken beyond repair. I removed the earpieces and replaced the band with cherry veneer using bent plywood lamination techniques. Brass inlays of my logo were added to the sides using metal filings and CA glue.

    Great job, I was thinking about this same concept and found that it's been done before. My niece managed to snap my set effortlessly. I'll be trying this in mahogany

      Luudite thanks for the kind words. I was going to do the PS logo at first but opted for my own since their logo is already visible on the earpieces.

    • @SvenJohnson
      @SvenJohnson  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      early culyer the earpieces are connected using the original machine screws. The veneer in thin enough for them to secure. There are tear down videos for the headset I used. If you are interested in making your own custom band for a different headset, you'll have a tear it down and determine how best to secure the band for that particular design.

    What kind of CA glue did you use that gave you so much open time and allowed you to have so so much time to do the lamination?

    • @SvenJohnson
      @SvenJohnson  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I used waterproof gorilla glue for the lamination and super glue for the brass inlay.

    How much to buy one? I have two broken headsets I can send you if need be.

    • @SvenJohnson
      @SvenJohnson  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      quinniequinnquinable thanks for your interest. I don't plan on selling them as the custom nature of the process (these were fitted to my head) make them price prohibitive. The OEM version was $100 and after materials and labor costs the price point of these would be in the thousands. Perhaps if these were expensive headphones to begin with the cost could be justified.

    Sven, where did you get the head template for the foam? Or how did you determine best size for your own head.

    • @SvenJohnson
      @SvenJohnson  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Kulig I measured my head horizontally at ear level then vertically from just below my earlobes. I offset the measurements to accommodate the hardware. I created the template in Adobe Illustrator.

    • @georgekulig1131

      One last question, Did you put a matching brass accent on the edge of the headband under the logo? If so, did you cut a piece of brass or was that done with the filings?

    • @SvenJohnson
      @SvenJohnson  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      George Kulig I cut a piece of brass and adhered it to the end. Thanks for the kind words.
