I know this is conjecture but I’m willing to bet they both had periods of being strung out and out of their minds where the transmission probably happened. Also Steven is probably sharing needles as a part of his habit - I’m not necessarily even convinced Randy gave it to him especially if he tested positive a year after they met.
One of the things I love about these interviews is that you take your subjects into your studio setting so they can be seen as individuals as opposed to their environment. It really makes a difference.

Idk how Steven isn't sick from his leg infection. When my toe was infected I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed long enough to get to the hospital. I wish them both the best of luck and Steven a speedy recovery.

I feel like Randy is using his “partner”! Steven gets a disability check and Randy has nothing. When asked about regrets Randy didn’t regret giving HIV to Steven. Steven could do better….. meaning being with someone who adds to his life not just takes.

It's very true in what you're saying. I'm in a interracial relationship as well. I'm on dialysis and it drains my body literally every time I go. My guy is so supportive of me. This is the REAL reason that I am in love with him. I know that he could be with someone else but he has chosen to stay with me because he is in love with me. He sacrifices a lot of things and I feel guilty. I truly contribute my staying healthy to his unbiased love for me. If I didn't have him...I'd probably be 6 feet under by now. Lord, only knows...I have my days where I want to give up. I'm 56 and he's 45. I'm often surprised by his good sense of humor all of the time. I know he has to keep it bottled up. He has a mother who's in a nursing rehab and she's suffering from severe dementia. But my guy always has a beautiful spirit. I'm very fortunate to have him and he says they same about him having me. 😇🥳

Stephen is truly a beautiful soul… Randy on the other hand... definitely struggles with accountability the fact that you gave the man that you love HIV and can still sit in his face and not want to apologize every time you hear him say that.. and instead you tried to tell him how it makes him feel.. and to say everything happens for a reason WOW. They both have been through so many tumultuous things in their lives so I try not to be so harsh. I pray they continue to find their own joy in the world.

My husband tells me all the time that he would do the 14 years in prison and our addiction all over again, because it lead us to where we are right now. We are clean and sober, have stable jobs for 3+ years and are expecting our first baby in January. Everything a person goes through makes them who they are inside and out. Whether it's good or bad.

This comment is the one! He knowingly had unprotected sex being HIV positive w/o telling Steven for months. Randy knew he was HIV positive. That is a crime not disclose that status to sexual partners prior to engaging in any sexual activity.
I couldn't imagine hearing all these stories and meeting all these people and then going home and thinking about it all, all the hurt and pain. I couldn't do it. But I'm glad you do and get their stories out and maybe people can see and not be so judgmental and actually get to know people who have these issues and have lived these lives.
As an addict whos been injecting heroin over 20 years, been to over 2 dozen rehabs, many methadone clinics and Suboxone programs I can say this: The turnover rate is so high for clinical therapist and those who work with addicts that in 5 years at 1 place I had 14 different counselors because they quit so frequently. They all say they can't handle the emotional toll it takes. I'm not saying no one can handle it but its my experience that it's barely anyone that can. Do you know how hard it is on a person like me to have to start my life story over 14 different times at one clinic??? It certainly doesn't help me at all- it actually hurts very very much. It never gets to the point where they know my whole story and real treatment begins.
@@DetroitFettyghost oh I know. I've been in recovery for 5 years. The first year I had 3 different therapists. And then the next 2 I had 2 amazing ones that ended up quitting and then I moved to a new city and have my current one. My husband has gone through so many as well. Having lived through the stuff we have could you imagine having over 40 patients that you see everyday that all have trauma and abuse and addiction. Plus your own life issues. The 2 I had had gone through a lot in their own lives and I think that's why they were so good at handling it they both quit for reasons they couldn't control. But it is so hard to break the cycle and re build when you have to start over and over and over. And not to mention if you don't mesh with someone then you have to find someone else or be stuck with that person. It's so hard. I just hurt too much for other people and would take their trauma onto myself especially the ongoing issues. You have to have people who can leave it at the office. But a good therapist has a good therapist they say. And you take what you can get and apply it, I am just now able to live again well almost. It takes a long time to undo your past. I wish you luck in your journey
Thanks for doing a follow-up. I wish Randy would take responsibility for infecting Steven. In both videos when HIV was mentioned Randy blows it off like it is what it is, but I sense some resentment from Steven. Happy Birthday, Randy! His health was already compromised and now he’s dealing with infection issues which the HIV is not helping. Most likely some strong codependent issues here that keep them together.
They're both high and don't have clear thoughts to think of their regrets. There's no way Steven genuinely does not have regrets. Randy, not so much. He's content in his addiction and with bringing down Steven. I'll pray for them both! 🙏🏾

There's a Kurdish saying that translate more or less to "one donkey pull forward, two donkeys pull downwards". Two addicts in a relationship is never a good idea, they usually pull each other down. If one want's to quit but the other one doesn't it's never gonna work. They have to be perfectly synchronized. And many addicts rather be in a destructive addiction than being alone and I think it's the same with Steven and Randy. I wish them the best but they have the odds against them living where they live, being in a relationship with an addict, just having each other etc etc.

Yes, it's true that they've made lots of mistakes and I notice that everyone feels for Steven, but not Randy. But, the damage is done and right now they are all they've got and their relationship, however flawed, seems honestly based in love. Steven.....get to the hospital. Randy....keep your sh_t together while he's in there. You never know what's right around the corner. Something really good could happen for you.

Thanks for this update. These guys have been on my mind ever since I saw the original clip, and I've never wanted a story to have a happy ending more than this one. They've been through so much and continue to face challenges, but manage to maintain a mostly optimistic outlook. I'm reminded that all people make a contribution, because inspiration can come from places where you least expect it. I hope that, if Randy and Steven read these comments, they realize there are so many people rooting for them.

1st I’m glad they look healthier in this video. 2nd Randy does lack accountability, I think he just doesn’t wanna hear himself say that he gave it to him. 3rdly Randy may not have experienced the same racism that Steven has witnessed so it’s not far fetched they disagreed on that question. I think BOTH of them have some resentment towards eachother but know they need eachother too. BOTH of them are good people/souls.
That broke my heart when Steven said he just wants to go to Disney world. They are both very smart. People underestimate the intellect of addicts. Steven is very smart under that exterior and what's sad is that if he was in a different environment that supported a healthier lifestyle he would thrive so much, I can really see that with him. I’m so glad their back! They have so much going on with their story, how they bonded, and their trauma that they have went through throughout their lives. I just wish Randy would have been on medication when he started messing around with Steven. It could have possibly helped him from contracting it. And wish Randy would stop telling Steven he didn’t give him HIV, because it’s that possibility he did. Steven said he didn’t test positive until a year after they met.

It started early for him. He was s*xually abused starting around age 5. And things never got better. Hes a product of abuse and neglect. Denial and drugs are the way he stayed alive.
Randy trapped Steven. Let's be clear. But what can't be glossed over is the fact that Randy is also a drug addicted victim of a lifetime cycle of abuse, and we know hurt ppl hurt ppl. It may be based out of codependency, but I am glad that these two men who've gone thru hell and back have someone by their sides for the difficult ride they're on. Prayers up for them.
Funny thing when they started talking about being followed around in the stores. I was assistant manager of a Family Dollar once and they train people (according to who the manager is) to watch people. Mine was super aggressive about it and even watched how much I myself was watching people and stayed on me about it. I was a little prejudiced myself especially about people of Mexican descent, but I actually learned a good lesson on that job. ALL colors steal and ALL colors are honest. You can't judge by color AT ALL. I'm so glad I had that experience, it was very valuable.

I know this is conjecture but I’m willing to bet they both had periods of being strung out and out of their minds where the transmission probably happened. Also Steven is probably sharing needles as a part of his habit - I’m not necessarily even convinced Randy gave it to him especially if he tested positive a year after they met.
One of the things I love about these interviews is that you take your subjects into your studio setting so they can be seen as individuals as opposed to their environment. It really makes a difference.
It’s so sad. Steven definitely has a lot of underlying resentment that Randy gave him HIV, but he knows that he’s all he’s got 😔

It's very true in what you're saying. I'm in a interracial relationship as well. I'm on dialysis and it drains my body literally every time I go. My guy is so supportive of me. This is the REAL reason that I am in love with him. I know that he could be with someone else but he has chosen to stay with me because he is in love with me. He sacrifices a lot of things and I feel guilty. I truly contribute my staying healthy to his unbiased love for me. If I didn't have him...I'd probably be 6 feet under by now. Lord, only knows...I have my days where I want to give up. I'm 56 and he's 45. I'm often surprised by his good sense of humor all of the time. I know he has to keep it bottled up. He has a mother who's in a nursing rehab and she's suffering from severe dementia. But my guy always has a beautiful spirit. I'm very fortunate to have him and he says they same about him having me. 😇🥳

Stephen is truly a beautiful soul… Randy on the other hand... definitely struggles with accountability the fact that you gave the man that you love HIV and can still sit in his face and not want to apologize every time you hear him say that.. and instead you tried to tell him how it makes him feel.. and to say everything happens for a reason WOW. They both have been through so many tumultuous things in their lives so I try not to be so harsh. I pray they continue to find their own joy in the world.

My husband tells me all the time that he would do the 14 years in prison and our addiction all over again, because it lead us to where we are right now. We are clean and sober, have stable jobs for 3+ years and are expecting our first baby in January. Everything a person goes through makes them who they are inside and out. Whether it's good or bad.

This comment is the one! He knowingly had unprotected sex being HIV positive w/o telling Steven for months. Randy knew he was HIV positive. That is a crime not disclose that status to sexual partners prior to engaging in any sexual activity.

As an addict whos been injecting heroin over 20 years, been to over 2 dozen rehabs, many methadone clinics and Suboxone programs I can say this: The turnover rate is so high for clinical therapist and those who work with addicts that in 5 years at 1 place I had 14 different counselors because they quit so frequently. They all say they can't handle the emotional toll it takes. I'm not saying no one can handle it but its my experience that it's barely anyone that can. Do you know how hard it is on a person like me to have to start my life story over 14 different times at one clinic??? It certainly doesn't help me at all- it actually hurts very very much. It never gets to the point where they know my whole story and real treatment begins.
@@DetroitFettyghost oh I know. I've been in recovery for 5 years. The first year I had 3 different therapists. And then the next 2 I had 2 amazing ones that ended up quitting and then I moved to a new city and have my current one. My husband has gone through so many as well.
Having lived through the stuff we have could you imagine having over 40 patients that you see everyday that all have trauma and abuse and addiction. Plus your own life issues.
The 2 I had had gone through a lot in their own lives and I think that's why they were so good at handling it they both quit for reasons they couldn't control. But it is so hard to break the cycle and re build when you have to start over and over and over. And not to mention if you don't mesh with someone then you have to find someone else or be stuck with that person.
It's so hard. I just hurt too much for other people and would take their trauma onto myself especially the ongoing issues. You have to have people who can leave it at the office. But a good therapist has a good therapist they say. And you take what you can get and apply it, I am just now able to live again well almost. It takes a long time to undo your past. I wish you luck in your journey

There's a Kurdish saying that translate more or less to "one donkey pull forward, two donkeys pull downwards". Two addicts in a relationship is never a good idea, they usually pull each other down. If one want's to quit but the other one doesn't it's never gonna work. They have to be perfectly synchronized.
And many addicts rather be in a destructive addiction than being alone and I think it's the same with Steven and Randy.
I wish them the best but they have the odds against them living where they live, being in a relationship with an addict, just having each other etc etc.

Thanks for this update. These guys have been on my mind ever since I saw the original clip, and I've never wanted a story to have a happy ending more than this one. They've been through so much and continue to face challenges, but manage to maintain a mostly optimistic outlook. I'm reminded that all people make a contribution, because inspiration can come from places where you least expect it. I hope that, if Randy and Steven read these comments, they realize there are so many people rooting for them.

1st I’m glad they look healthier in this video. 2nd Randy does lack accountability, I think he just doesn’t wanna hear himself say that he gave it to him. 3rdly Randy may not have experienced the same racism that Steven has witnessed so it’s not far fetched they disagreed on that question. I think BOTH of them have some resentment towards eachother but know they need eachother too. BOTH of them are good people/souls.
That broke my heart when Steven said he just wants to go to Disney world. They are both very smart. People underestimate the intellect of addicts. Steven is very smart under that exterior and what's sad is that if he was in a different environment that supported a healthier lifestyle he would thrive so much, I can really see that with him. Randy says they're family because family is all about giving, especially if you have a deadly disease like HIV.
I’m so glad their back! They have so much going on with their story, how they bonded, and their trauma that they have went through throughout their lives. I just wish Randy would have been on medication when he started messing around with Steven. It could have possibly helped him from contracting it. And wish Randy would stop telling Steven he didn’t give him HIV, because it’s that possibility he did. Steven said he didn’t test positive until a year after they met.

Randy appears to survive on denial.
It started early for him. He was s*xually abused starting around age 5. And things never got better. Hes a product of abuse and neglect. Denial and drugs are the way he stayed alive.
Randy trapped Steven. Let's be clear. But what can't be glossed over is the fact that Randy is also a drug addicted victim of a lifetime cycle of abuse, and we know hurt ppl hurt ppl. It may be based out of codependency, but I am glad that these two men who've gone thru hell and back have someone by their sides for the difficult ride they're on. Prayers up for them.

Funny thing when they started talking about being followed around in the stores. I was assistant manager of a Family Dollar once and they train people (according to who the manager is) to watch people. Mine was super aggressive about it and even watched how much I myself was watching people and stayed on me about it.
I was a little prejudiced myself especially about people of Mexican descent, but I actually learned a good lesson on that job. ALL colors steal and ALL colors are honest. You can't judge by color AT ALL. I'm so glad I had that experience, it was very valuable.

Maybe because Steven knew Randy was tricking? They both say sex is rampant in their communities.. Or perhaps due to their mutual histories of drug use? Maybe even as Steven is educated vs. Randy being less so (like.. he's so smart, he must have known the chances were high). Sometimes folks are not being "literal".

I just adore Stephen, he's such a sweet good ole guy. It's always nice to see people that have turned themselves around and are just looking at the beauty in whats left. I hope Randy gets clean so he can be fully present and enjoy his time with Stephen. Sometimes we make decisions that hurt the ones we love.. no one can condemn him. It happened, but it seems like he wants to spend the rest of his time with Stephen. Let them enjoy what's left. Blessings guys! Will be praying for y'all.

Steven has a good heart. Randy seems deeper in his drug addiction than the previous video. He is swaying & rocking more and less direct eye contact.
When he said he thought I was gonna hit him and he prepared for a blow I saw right there everything I needed to know....very sad...love to you Rndy....very sad to know a trick likely gave Randy HIV. Also people who are blaming this man for going off meds must not know about the medical system in the US and must have never been cryning at CVS when they tell you your insurance won't cover your meds and they ask you for your amex. I feel so sorry for them. My cousin got HIV from a rich john from the wealthiest neighborhood in the US...he paid extra for BB....so never judge a sex worker unless you judge the judge or dr that creeps with them while their kids are at school and their wives at work. Mark I love this couple! I hope all goes well with the surgery. I love how they love each other and care for each other. I come from a time where they had the grim reaper talking about HIV here in Australia but treatment has come so far. I wish you all the best 🌈🥰
@@simonc1039 I do too, I really thought HIV was no longer a big deal but it seems for some (like Steven) they still get really sick. I'm wondering if it could be the MRSA making him sick as well. Either way I hope his health improves, he seems like a lovely guy.

So much deep seeded underlying resentment and bitterness in this relationship. I don’t see love. I see desperation and the need to hold on to one another because they have nothing else. So sad.

Randy reminds me so much of my mom. Which makes him endearing to me even though it's not all positive. They seem nice, and I really hope they have a good future and start looking at more of the truth and learning from it
