    Do you think the wood cutting board may be contributing significantly to reducing edge retention? If you were cutting on a thick rubber mat or some other more “edge protective” surface, how many more cuts would a knife be able to retain its edge through?

    12C27Mod is between 0.52% to 0.55% carbon so technically it could be a high carbon stainless steel by definition.
    Officially anything over 0.55% and 13% chromium by weight is in the high carbon stainless steel class, by US standards.
    However, I also wouldn't consider it high carbon stainless steel even though technically it is👍.
    I feel they should change the high carbon stainless steel standard to anything over 0.75% carbon and 13% chromium by weight.

      @@kknives_switzerland don’t worry I very highly prefer the plastic version as it makes the knife as light as possible which is adding to the performance of the knife. there is a sharpening system that uses a paper wheel that puts an incredible edge on knives. You add compound to the wheel iirc. I have also seen Gough knives where he uses a plywood wheel to do the same thing. I saw the paper wheel on wranglerstars channel.

    Thanks for posting the useful information. For a pocket knife the most important factor for me is a moderate replacement cost. After more than fifty years of carrying pocket knives I know that I will eventually lose it. That is due to Murphy's law and cannot be avoided. Greater edge retention is usually much more expensive but I still I do want something C&A 40 or better. In this video the ceramic blade failed early and the test should have ended there gut it does not matter since I would never buy that type of knife. The elastic ceramic sounds interesting but I would like to know if you have actually sharpened the elastic ceramic blade and got a good the result. Ceramic knives are notorious for chipping while being sharpened.

    • @kknives_switzerland
      @kknives_switzerland 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sharpening is very easy on this one, IF one keeps two or three things in mind, I briefly touched on the subject in the newest video on my channel. I will make a full sharpening tutorial though. Long story short is that in order to get a sharp edge, you have to use diamond lapping films with a few drops of oil on a squishy backing and then perform a stropping motion. If you want to fix a chip in the blade, you can do so with diamond stones, but diamond stones won't give you a good edge. So always finish on diamond lapping films with oil as lubricant on a squishy backing. Again, some info in the latest video of mine and the dedicated sharpening video is to come!👍🏻

      @@SuperMurrayb it’s actually really funny because I completely agree with you I have around a $6000 collection of knives some knives even 500 bucks and my daily carry is a Kershaw chill $20 knife because I know I will lose it eventually.
