These two movies are adaptations of the first two story arcs (Public Enemies & Apokolips) of the Superman/Batman on going series that came out from 2003-2011. Both arcs were written by Jeph Loeb, with Ed McGuinness drawing the first and Micheal Turner drawing the second, and that's why the artwork changes between movies. If they were to continue the series, then the next story to adapt would be "Absolute Power". I love to see that and the fourth arc "With A Vengeance" adapted! Also I highly recommend the source material for everyone's reading list. It's Awesome!
This is a sequel. For all the reasons you mentioned and also because both movies are based on the Superman/Batman comic series from the 2000s. The first story arc was president luthor and the second was supergirl
Edit: and the animation is meant to emulate the art of Ed McGuiness (vol 1) and Michael Turner (vol 2) It does this remarkably well
The one were Batman and Superman team up from the animated series in the 90's is a pretty good one too.
I like that episode when Superman disguises itself as Batman. And beats the crap out of Bane. Also he fought Brainiac without his cape.

Jennifer Hale is the best voice actress as Dr. Naomi Hunter(MGS) & Felicia Hardy/Black Cat and MaryJane Parker (Spider-Man). Definitely need to see Superman and Batman: Public Enemies as I enjoy Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/ Batman. Still my favorite voice actor as a kid

I do love the banter between Superman and Batman, but comparing a Gorilla Grodd-controlled Solomon Grundy to William F. Buckley, made me chuckle lol
These movies are classic masterpieces and people forget they exist
They are mediocre MEHs that took one step forward and two steps back from adapting the original comic book stories which still stand as the better versions of the stories that these animated movies failed to adapt.

I like to think that in the final fight darkseid boom tubed in to the Kent's early and just chilled on theor couch reading while waiting for them to return.
I bought Superman/Batman Public Enemies and Superman/Batman Apocalypse as a double feature on dvd from Walmart with a good price couple years ago and I still enjoy them

They are all are the very least good. Some after great, like the one with Supergirl. They are underrated, as I seldom hear them talked about. Great stories, unique animation, and two awesome heroes teamed up!
DC Discovery needs to make Batman/Superman Public Enemy a movie and put it into theaters.
The sequel was more a DC Trinity flick, given how much screen time Diana gets too, which makes this one of my favorite DC films as a WW fan. The fight scene with the Furies in Apocalypse is my favorite WW fight scene EVER; love how the lasso was integrated as a weapon beyond it's magical Truthiness. And even her costume on point in this one, none of the modern attempts to make it more "practical" by adding skirts or pants or other means of showing less skin like the utterly pointless arm gloves or turtleneck leotards (which is actually less practical than proponents of her more conservative renditions would argue. It maybe is not entirely surprising that those versions of her being more covered up also tend to portray her as being sexually overcome by Superman's muscles, given the lack of agency granted to women by their value systems...)
the Superman/Batman comics are some of my favorite comics made by DC in recent years. I love the art style of Ed McGinniswhen he did the first storyline of Public Enemies and then again when he did the massive multiverse crossover. the art of the late Michale Tunner was good for the supergirl storyline but it's better for comics like Fantom and Witchblade. and Jeph lobe was an amazing writer of these books. I highly recommend you check these comics out if you like these two movies based on these.
7:30 He claimed that the kryptonite was poisoning Superman and making him insane. He was deflecting because the cryptonite he was injecting was actually making him insane. It shows this in the movie, as he first takes small doses, and even hesitates to take it at first. But near the end of the movie, he's taking so much his veins are growing and getting green, and he starts becoming more psychotic as he gets bigger and as the movie goes on. The normal Lex wouldn't have welcomed the meteor, he'd swallow his pride at a point.

Good review, and this were among the best movies in the animated DC movies. I would say the closes to a continuation is Superman Unbound which feels like a follow up as it talks a little about Supergirl getting into her role but that is a weak connection.
Off topic but I wonder if vee infuso has ever considered talking about justice league crisis on crisis on two earths? I mean I do think someone like owlman would give him alot to talk about since he's a nihilist like the joker.

2:23 "Less useful" Gotham City would disagree. For years, this man was the only thing preventing Gotham from crumbling like wet tissue paper.
My favourite moment in Superman Batman Public enemies, is Lex's decision to not stop the Meteor, and the reason behind it.
He tried to stop it with his own math early on, he was hell bent on stopping it, yet his math was wrong, and he wasn't able to stop it, and instead of accepting that he was wrong and send someone else to stop it, he convinces himself that the reason his math was wrong, was so that he could use the Meteor to wipe out half of humanity to make "make the world better" as he put it. It's the most crazy, yet in character thing ever.
(Also, I really like the way Lex manages to make Superman seem bad in this movie, he doesn't just say "Welp, guess he's evil now" he provides a reason that to the general public who doesn't know much about Kryptonians makes a lot of sense and is justifiable, other movies don't do this)
these were good adaptation of the Superman/Batman comics from the early 2000s, I really only wish that they had animated just how awesome Batman is by having him discover Barda's secret compartment in the background like in the comics, while Supes, Diana, and Barda are talking.
And you reminded me that I really want them to animate Doomsdays origin along with the rest of this comic run. Pat Lee's art deserves the animated treatment.

I love both of these movies. The only issue I had with them is that Power Girl and Super Girl are pretty much the same person, or at least PG is a clone of SG depending on the continuity. The fact that they are in the same universe at the same time but also PG is there and active before SG even gets there. Just throws me off. Great movies though.

I definitely enjoyed the Superman/Batman movies.
That one side comment about powergirl’s va has led me to be in absolute shock and awe.
Dr. Cox has only one line as Metallo. One. Line. Why cast such an amazing actor, who already did voices in DCAU and not give him anything to do. Metallo never even had to say anything. He's a machine. In comic he was used by Luthor to drive Batman crazy as Batman had planted evidence that John Corben killed his parents. None of that is here, because of time probably.
Yet, if Dr. Cox was voicing Captain Atom for example, his casting would make more sense.
Funny how the first had Power Girl as a big supporting character and the next had Supergirl as a main character

It's ALL about the Banter between Bats and Supes. This was probably the best movie to do that.

batman vs et. i dont even know if theres any bats vs supes content left, this video is two years old. but ANYWAY. i loved the apocalyspe movie. i hope the comic is just as fun or even better, havent read it yet. i liked the public enemies comic more than the movie, but the movie is still really good

The truth is that everything Lex said about the meteor affecting Superman was really truly making him hostile and violent. More unstable with absolute power and the closer the meteor got the more insane he got. If Kryptonite can physically and mentally affect humans even the greatest intellect the most powerful man on the planet…than any human can be affected.

"It feels like a Superman movie that Batman just so happens to be in." That was my main problem with the Public Enemies movie adaptation; it took all of Batman's agency out of the movie that the comic originally had. His major reason for getting caught up in the events is because Luthor knew Batman was trying to solve the Wayne family murder, and planted evidence that Metallo might have been the one responsible for killing his parents years ago. My other major pain point with comic vs movie is that the movie also took out Batman's fight with Luthor at the end. Luthor tries fighting Batman in hand to hand combat, gets his ass handed to him, and then Batman tells him that Talia and Wayne Enterprises went ahead and bankrupted him as well. There was also a weird plot point the comic had where there was a future Superman from the future where the meteor hit trying to screw with present day events, and that was rightfully cut for pacing purposes, but taking Batman's agency out was a huge mistake.
that final fight with batman was cut for good reason. It would be stupid for lex to try and fight batman physically.
@@ProjektTaku Lex thought he would win because he injected himself with a mixture of Kryptonite and Bane’s venom right before the fight and even taunted Batman about Bane being the one to break his back beforehand. Also the kryptonite injections were making Luthor a bit off his rocker

@@ProjektTaku You're obviously saying all this without having read the original comic or at least seeing the panels. Batman's skills improved a lot over the years and he uses pure technique to take roided Luthor down. The end result of the fight where Batman reveals Luthor is bankrupt is also a great detail too, to show Luthor is absolutely defeated in every way, since Luthor was president in DC comic stories for a few a years. You're also missing the main point is that Batman still has no agency in the movie adaptation like he did in the original comic.
@@ShiroMatrix so? that could've been done in a number of ways and we didn't need a fight between batman vs roided lex luthor. And I wouldn't say he has no agency in the movie, but rather he's more a secondary character.

I turned off the movie when Luthor kissed Waller. It was just weird. Luthor is supposed to be this super-genius, he's supposed to really threatening because he's planned for everything. What was his plan there? What was he expecting, that she'd kiss back? It's like Luthor has just gone nuts, which makes him not feel like a credible threat who can outsmart everyone.
Luthor was insane from the kryptonite at that point.

I think it's more so he sees Superman not just as greater than humanity but also greater than himself. And that's really what infuriates him since he basically wants to be the greatest man on earth.

I had the graphic novel of the comic, I mostly bought because of the art but the Ending was dog crap and the movie suffers because it was written by Jeph Loeb.
