tip: it's okay to lose friends. some times you can have a group of friends from freshman year and then the summer before senior year you could lose them all. but it's okay. they aren't meant to be there if they aren't. you will always find one person who will be there for you. also don't hate your past friends. they taught you something. be thankful.
actually you can resent them if they hurt/bullied you somehow. sometimes it's better to be not ok with some people, they aren't worth being in your memories. (although i totally get your point, especially in minor "friend break-ups")
Yeah, a few of my friends just started changing (or maybe I was just growing up) but they would make fun of the things I loved or was passionate about. It's tough because I've known them since elementary, and the only reason I dont completely get myself away from the hatred and negativity against me is because I have one friend there who *actually* enjoys being around me. But I know it's important to let the people go in your life that are making you miserable..so yeah

I usually don't comment on videos but I just wanted to thank you Conan for making me realize how beautiful a small moment could be. For the majority of my life I believed that a " beautiful moment " could ONLY be when your sitting next to the love of your life while enjoying the sunset on some fancy beach. But then I saw one of your vlogs where you were just having fun in a car. You captured that moment so beautifully, that it made me realize something as small as a car ride could turn into an amazing experience. Now, I always try to enjoy the small moments so my future self doesn't have to regret me not seeing the beauty of that moment before it was gone. ♡
college lesson for all yall (esp. for anyone who's a procrastinator like me lmao): - study whenever you can. not like overboard, stress yourself out, cramming kind of studying, but like a quick look at overviews and general stuff then mark what you need to look at more in depth later. maybe during a car/bus ride, break between classes, or even the walk between classes. a couple of minutes can make the difference between a pass and a fail. also try to study the same subject at the same time & day each week. having a routine gets you into the zone quicker - totally make use of like audio versions of textbooks or reviews based on your classes. listening to them while cleaning, walking, eating, etc. really helps. - read ahead! dont come to class not having read the topics bc you will spend most of the class trying to keep up with the notes T---T (hopefully ur profs wouldve given you a detailed syllabus detailing when youll start each topic - take breaks and dont feel guilty about them! just 10 mins to doodle, watch a video, or walk makes a /huge/ difference. to make sure you dont go over the time limit (like meeeeee) set like a really loud or annoying alarm (kitchen timer, phone, or like ur wake up alarm) - MOST IMPORTANT: wake up at the same time everyday. trust me. not doing this will screw you over so hard. i cant count the amount of times i missed consultations or my morning classes. it doesnt matter if your classes dont start at the same time everyday, just wake up at the same time. (and please go to sleep early or youll regret it in your next class!!) i could probably ramble more but echh im lazy good luck to everyone!!! :> hope this helps a little bit
buecherwuermin Oh, yeah, I know that it's summer for the whole Northern Hemisphere, what I meant was the summer vacation (where there is no school during the summer), some countries in the N. Hemisphere only have like 2 weeks off of school, and I'm sure some countries in the north do have school this time of year, that's what my friends from Europe said, though thanks for reminding,
dovahkiin right? I'm only starting high school this year, and already everyone thats "cool" or "popular" do drugs. They were only in 8th grade when they started.
Literally the people that comment on Conan's videos are the sweetest most adorable people ever and I was trying to think of something really special to say but they all beat me to it...shmrrrr.
some hopefully helpful college advice for everyone (this is gonna be long so grab some snacks folks): - get at least a week ahead of your readings - when assessments come up you will be glad, trust me - start your assessments when you get them - you need time to research, process information and develop and flesh out your ideas - don't stress too much about grades - of course, you want to do well, but it's important to rationalise as at the end of the day, the longer it's been since you left uni, the less employers care about your GPA (they care more about experience and skills). Furthermore, Ps get degrees. - if you're sitting in class or waiting for class to start, make conversation with the person next to you and be friendly as you never know when you'll make a new friend and/or need someone to talk to about the coursework - get involved in societies/groups and go to events you get emails about (e.g. networking & careers events) - gotta get that work-play balance yo (plus it's also good for your resume/career) - don't set your expectations too high, especially in terms of making friends. A lot of (but not all) people don't go to uni to make friends - many just go to get a degree, but I reckon sometimes we're all just scared shitless to make any real connections and are inhibited by this inherent need to appear 'cool' (at least in my experience in Australia). Don't be afraid to ask someone to hang out, study or get drinks, but also realise that it may not eventuate into anything lasting beyond college/uni/the semester as often friendships exist out of convenience. - if someone you have spoken to before doesn't make conversation even though you've both recognised each other's presence, start conversation even if it feels awkward and you feel shy. They probably feel the same. - on a similar note, if they ignore you even though you're sufficiently acquainted to make conversation, they're a bit of a shithead and don't deserve your time, energy or mind-space (thoughts? idk) - the people who always say hello and/or make conversation with you whenever you see them, regardless of how close you are, they are worth your time. Same goes for anyone who ever helps you out. - of course, you will find people to latch on to who you vibe with and are on the same frequency as, and you won't feel that awkwardness from the beginning of your relationship, or relatively very little. The hardest part of friendships is maintaining them, so remind them you exist regularly because you are hella amazing. - finally (if you've made it this far) don't stress too much about your degree - your degree does not determine your future. Plus, even if you're not feeling it, you can take a gap year or change degrees. And, just a friendly reminder and my personal mantra for the next 4 years, Ps get degrees.
I had like three crushes during my freshman and sophomore year but I was never like the typical girl and I never made an effort I just admire them from afar.
Tips to succeed in college: - get involved in clubs!! - put all of your semester's assignments and exams on a calendar right away - look for campus events (free food ;) ) - find a study buddy in every class - party with people you like, not people who seem popular - talk to an advisor about your career path - have fun
anyone else watching this in 2022? i'm going into high school this year, and seeing Conan talk about it makes me feel less nervous, I will definitely watch this video a lot of times before school starts.
@@kidwiththekoolaid hey, if you’ve started school yet, how was the first week? I started last Wednesday, and it was kind of overwhelming at first, but I feel a lot better now.
@@lemonade3220 oh I haven't started. 3 more weeks to go. I'm glad you're feeling better after feeling overwhelmed :) kinda nervous but hopefully it really is "the best four years of your life" lol
@@lyssnicole I just wanted to tell you good luck and as someone who’s been in high school for 3 weeks, it really isn’t anything to be nervous about. I even made friends already, and I have a really hard time doing that. I hope you have a good first week!
This is the first high school advice video I've seen that's actually helpful. Thank you so much. You're so wise yet so young it's incredible. I'm entering my senior year of high school this fall, so I've already gotten through the great bulk of high school and made a lot of mistakes but I'll definitely take this advice for my next and final year. Also, thank you so much for saying what you said about the "master of none" stuff. As someone who's in that boat, I really appreciate that you have a different perspective. Everyone always talks about how you have to focus on and only do one thing all through high school and it makes me nervous because I'm being told this now during my junior and senior years of high school when it's "too late" which to me is honestly a ridiculous idea because isn't graduating from high school just the beginning of your life and focusing on one thing? The way I always thought of it was high school was my chance to do everything and be a part of so many different things before college when I only get to focus one thing. I ended up joining a bunch of different extracurriculars and spending all my time learning new things instead of building on one thing I was already good at. It's not that I don't have passion, I just saw high school as an opportunity to try a lot of new things and what ended up happening was I have no "spike." I have passion, but high school experience is all over the place. My grades are solid, I take as many AP classes as possible and even a class more than my requirement every year. My grades and my scores are high but without the "spike," I feel like I did things wrong. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for adding that bit in and not painting it so that it's utterly impossible for kids that work hard to get in if they're not amazing at one specific thing.
*laying on bed procrastinating and watching conans video knowing i have so many summer assignments left to do as an incoming sophmore next year* conan: Ya i dont procrastinate i never learned how to not do it until it felt exhuasting sophmore year me: *jOLTS OUT OF BED TO START SUMMER ASSINGMENTS*
loved that video but i live in a third world country, sometimes we don't even have a sit to sit on in class, if u live in a good country, please, be grateful
punkcrown you carry everything that you need to be successful within yourself. although I feel for you; I still know you have the potential to do great things. Just try to keep working at whatever you’re passionate about, and if you haven’t found that yet, put all your time into finding your passion.❤️ I wish you the best
totally agree with that education-wise. but if someone's being bullied 24/7, even if they are in a high class private school, they won't be grateful. and they shouldn't. some things still need to change in the system. WORLDWIDE.
As an outgoing kid, seeing the surprise of shy kids when I talk with them and smiled at them is super cute and I’m always so happy when they’re comfortable enough to start conversations on their own with me
I'm extremely shy, awkward, and anti-social. I carry a book around with me at all times and avoid eye contact. Most kids act like I'm too fragile to talk to. I have depression and my anxiety increases by a crazy amount when at school. Is it alright to just be miserable with no friends haha? That's the root it looks like I'm heading. -Small Town High School Sophomore
i live an extremely conservative area and unfortunately most of my class mates are very close minded and bully anyone of differences. What I've learned (considering I'm gay) is that you can't listen to everything people say. They don't mean anything in the long run and soon enough you will be off to college and doing your own thing, but as of now find a friend or two that's open minded and accepting because like conan said, they will have your back no matter what. good luck to anyone else in this sort of situation, because i know it's a rough one but we can make it through !! ❤️
Conan, it seems like your biggest tip from this vid was to truly go with follow your passion when it came to finding a college thats right or you. Could you make a video about how to find that passion or how at least realize that you have one?
For me the hardest thing about high school is the fact that I am not good at anything, no matter how passionate I can be about it. Grades are kinda the only thing I have, and not being in the top 5 of my class despite my efforts make feel really bad about my self
Anémone Blue don't worry about it, and I know it might not seem like it, but EVERYONE has a passion, and everyone finds it at different times. Please pls pls don't stress about it now. No body has a deadline to what they are passionate about. You don't have to worry about it now, when you graduate , or when you go to college. There have been people who found it at the age of 5, and the age of 55+. So please trust me when I say this, you don't have to worry. And remember: All good things come to those who wait💗
How do you hold a conversation? I think I'm confident enough to say hi to someone but then it goes down hill after that and it always ends in awkward silence.
just talk about something you both find annoying and mix it with some irony or something funny, that's always a good start for a long conversation because you can go on from that point...
I feel like I can't relate to my classmates but I still care about them in a weird way - especially going to a small school with a small class so I'm surrounded by the same people like every day - so I feel like a connection is established anyway But I feel like I can't be myself and talk about how amazing Conan's aesthetic is or something like that So I'll usually end up saying nothing at all NOTE: if you actually took the time to read this, I ❤️️ you xx
The same kind of thing happened to me because I was in a small program so everyone in my grade, while I didn’t really know all of them, I knew them and had that connection. I love when I relate to things 💕
I'm only a sophomore in HS but I struggle with self doubt and self loathing, and the one thing I found really helps is positive affirmations. They might seem really silly at first, but keep telling yourself that you are STRONG and AWESOME, and that you CAN do whatever you are doing. Just start! It can't hurt! flip the switch in your brain because you have control over your own head.
This works!!! I used to be so sad but now I smile every time I see a mirror and am like ah what a cutie and oh gosh! With art I just started telling myself that I'm on the right path. I love myself when I used to hate myself. I don't know exactly why but I said if no one else would I will. Life got sooo much better just work hard, laugh at yourself, and love the little unique parts of your day
people always say it's like a decision, but you see it's in some way true when you get there. I've also gained wayyyy more friends and people laugh at jokes I say even when they don't know me. It's good. Great advice. Yeah!
I cant believe conans highschool to college era is immortalized and helping students for several years after he stopped making these kinds of videos. Thanks for keeping these up cone. Also comfort videos for old fans. I appreciate you so, so, so much.
all the kids at school don't want to be friends with me because they all think I'm gay and make rumors about me and make fun of me so it's quite hard for me to make friends so I'm just trying to get through it and hopefully when I get to high school (in 2 years) people won't care enough to make fun of me. conan you help me so much and I want to thank you for how great you are for young kids like me💗
Dude, I had the exact problem. I am starting high school this year and ekkk im nervous and we had like a school tour and i did not make friends with anyone but it's because i didn't speak to anyone i hope they don't think im weird lol. But I realized how important is to actually talk to other students, not just be silent all the time, following that friends will come eventually. Tip: _don't make friends with someone you dont want to be friends with,_ trust me, thats even worse than being alone and bullied, and its really hard to 'unfriend' them if you are already pretty close. Also, if you are already alone, find someone who is also like that, there sure is someone.
Ruby Gee thank you very much, i really appreciate it. I too don't actually go to an american high school, I go by the British system so technically I'm already in high school but I hope by the time we get to 15+ as you said no one will care enough to make fun of me. thank you so much for your beautiful message💗
to be honest, its way way super easy to make friends in high school, i went into highschool with a couple of close friends because we went to the same middle sschool (and its amazing the drama hasent broken us apart becuase i do cross countrey and im lazy and an art person and my friend is shy and quiet and smart and a totoal nerd! and my other friend is laoud and charming and on the friggen football team!) were very different people but ok, its so easy to make friends i started with 2 and i now have.... damn i dont even know! highschools nothing like the movies trust me. my best advicce is to find somebody and branch off, i know your shy but other people arent, if you dont talk to somebody, fine, but somebody will talk to you i can gurentee, im an amnivert (introverted and extroverted equal parts) so i often found myself looking for the shy kids and giving them a shot becuuase i knew what it was like yo be shy but i knew theyd really appresiate somebody outgoing to talk to them, i talked to every shy person i saw (and im not the friendlyest person, i glare at teachers and eat food in there face and listen to music all class especially when they tell me to stop) but i had some really great conversations with these randdom peopel, idk where im going with this, i just think that even if you dont talk all that much somebody will talk to you, and please PLEASE talk back! its super awkwward when people just look at there shoes and dont say anything back (i know from expoerience)
You're definitely right about no one really caring in high school. There's hardly any bullying in high school. Most people at my school just float around and focus on their own lives and a lot of us actually help each other out a lot. I've talked to so many more people in one year of high school than I ever did in middle school. We all help each other out and there's hardly any mean kids.
hi cone i know it’s been 4 years since u posted this, but i’ve been watching u since i was 7 years old, now i’m heading into middle school and it’s way different. i watched this video a couple times before school started, and it helped me loads, and i’m sure a bunch of others too. congrats on ur newfound success, and keep doing what u love
hey cone! :) here are some university tips: 1. take notes in class - use short forms of words to type/write faster (e.g. politcal discourse > pol disc (but make sure you understand them too!)) 2. go through your course's syllabus as soon as it comes out 3. prepare for courses by doing your readings ahead of time 4. have mental health days 5. use your planner to record deadlines as soon as you get them! 6. try to view uni as something you enjoy a lot! anyways, i think you'll do great bc university is mostly about hard work and you're v hardworking! 💗 God bless in all your endeavours! 😊 you got this.
i REALLY agree that bullying in hs isn't as prevalent as middle school. no one really cares what you do, as long as you treat people with kindness. like kindness goes SO FAR in high school
As for someone who's been out of high school for almost 3 years now I wanted to repeat a couple of things for anyone who's looking for more advice. Pls pls work hard in freshman year and sophomore year as Conan says! I went to a school where nobody cared/ it was a common thing for people to slack off and not do what they're supposed to. I came home with F's and D's decorating my report card with few A's and B's to the point where I needed all 7 of my senior year classes in order to graduate when all of my friends had early dismissal and got to enjoy their senior year. Like Conan mentioned, good grades can never hurt. I even went to community college right out of high school after I applied to 5+ colleges and getting accepted to my fall back school. Community college is a good route to go if you cannot afford "real" college. I finally transferred my credits and am going to a beautiful state university this coming semester. All and all, treat high school like it actually matters, because it does! And if you are in your sophomore, junior or senior year, remember it is never too late to do well or improve yourself.
There is actually a good handful of youtubers that go to UCLA, they make videos on different things though. The first time I went to UCLA for a field trip I took the POC tour. The campus was beautiful, the student tourists were kind and outgoing. My sophomore history teacher is taking extra classes at UCLA and I think I might be going there to. I live in LA so many kids don't think of UCLA of being a hard school to get into, that's why your point of view gets me every time. I'm going to start taking more classes related to what I want to study. All I know is that I want to go into the psychology field. Normally I get home until like 7pm or 8pm and by then I'm extremely tired and I don't want to finish my homework, that's why I suffered a lot sophomore year. Now I'm moving to my Junior year and I'm honestly scared on how I'm going to handle all my classes and SLP. Also the thing about community colleges is that many don't transfer and just stay there. Others give up on their dreams and just pick up whatever they can.
you legit have no idea how much this video means to me. I start high school this year and i have really bad social anxiety and this made me feel a lot better about the whole thing
nolie blue high school isnt as scary as it seems ((: just walk in there, be confident, get involved and enjoy it... high school goes by fast and once its over, most of the stuff that went on doesnt matter much anymore (aka dont stress) !!
evann christina you obviously don't have social anxiety. So lemme br br break it down for you. Social anxiety isn't just "being shy." For most people, something as simple as talking to someone isn't really a big deal. But for people like us who have social anxiety, we are so ashamed of ourselves, which causes the chemicals in our brains to be off balance (something like that.) Anyways, it can be so bad that it can have physical effects, such as panic attacks and short breaths, etc. There is other stuff, but I'm too tired to type more. Please don't take it likely. Social anxiety is the least understood mentAl disorder, we don't need more people telling us to just "suck it up", and "just talk". Hope you can understand. B y e
evann christina also, one of the causes of our anxiety, is that we each had a very horrible experience with people, which made us see all of them as enemies, which shut us up for good. But no doctor wants to mention that ugggghhh
diamondintherough xo girl preach like i cant just walk in there and do it if i could i would. like i get they were just trying to help and it wasnt their intention but it kind of hurt bc it reminded me of all the stuff i cant do. its just not that easy.
Going into highschool, I cant help being excited, and it's all thanks to you. I really believe in the fact that highschool is what you make it. Its gonna be 1 million times better than middle school, I know that much.
if ive learned anything about highschool is its litteraly nothing like any book or tv show or movie leads on, doubt anybodys gonna turn there back on you, there are snakes but its litterlaly SO easy to avoid them! i go to a school where 75% of the guys in our grade do football. two of my best friends are a part of that and the are quite honestly the ONLY nice guys that play this damn sport in my grade, i got pretty lucky and there friends who ar not so nice hang out themm alot but i litterlay have never had to deal with them, i just simply walk away or look at my phone. boom, snake avoided
conan as a freshman this helped me more than all the teachers and adults who have advised me. this eased so much of my anxiety and i'm just so grateful to have found you
Your advice about stress and balancing school and fun really stuck a cord with me. Like honestly I've been feeling exhausted for the past week or two (mostly because of my torn knee legiment but whatever) anyway, yeah. I totally related to being exhausted, and the feeling of knowing that there is a looming presence of work if I decide to not do it during the day. If I decide to "just do it tonight", it's always in the back of my mind if I do that. Thannnk you Conan
Hey Cone🍦 and all the college newbies 👼 I'm currently a college student studying 3D animation in South Africa. College is fun and there's a lot of freedom but obviously it comes with a lot of responsibility. Some advice I want to give to the kiddies starting college is to try step out of your comfort zone. I used to be a little bit reserved in high school and had a friend group that I kept close to me at all times. This all changed when I went to college as none of my friends came to the same college as me; so my first day was a little bit scary. I really pushed myself to be friendly and have conversations with lots of people I wouldn't really talk to during my first week. By the end of the first week I ended up being close friends with one girl (that I thought I would have never been a friend with) just by opening up and stepping out of my comfort zone. 💞 Good luck to all you college freshies! You'll kill it 🎉
i don't think you have any idea how happy and relieved I felt while watching this video. You really made me realize how important every moment is and how happiness doesn't have to wait until you get a job and have a family. You made everything sound so clear and I'm really thankful for that.
Ahhh Conan, you are so inspirational. I love how you are unapologetically yourself even though people made fun of you for being different. You are such a beautiful person and I'm so grateful for you💙
HIGHSCHOOL ADVICE: Don't be afraid to go for something you're interested in. I was beyond scared to try out for my schools musical and it was one of the greatest decisions I've ever made. Because of it, I've made so many friends in the theatre department at my school. Whether it be trying out for football or asking a teacher if you can do this or that, or starting a club, or going to the homecoming dance, DO IT! You won't regret it at all 💖❣️
Thank you so much cone!! I'm going be a freshman in month and tbh it's hella worried about starting in a new environment. Idk why I don't know what will happen that makes me excited but scared . This kinda calmed me in a sense
Planners are always so necessary because if you think you’re going to remember everything you need to do that afternoon... you wont. Theres so many things happening and so many tasks that you need to do so I also recommend using a planner!!! It seriously saved me my senior year!!
I love how your advice is universal. I'm 16 and I live in the U.K. and even though your advice about college and high school classes doesn't apply to me at all, you calm me down and cheer me up when I start stressing myself out to much about my future 😇. I'm going to be getting my GCSE grades late in August (grades that decide whether you can continue into further education - which you need to do if you want to got to University) and I'm terrified because I know that I didn't do enough work for them; mostly because I was putting all my time and effort into my art class (which I will never get the credit for because "art is an easy subject"). The only thing that I'm happy with is that I'm not lying to myself thinking I'm going to do really well. But with some luck, I will hopefully get the grades to return to my high school and continue to study because I'm going to work harder, be more focussed, and take your advice on not procrastinating homework so I can do more of the stuff I love. Thank you so much Conan, you could never know how much you motivate and inspire me and so many other people. Good luck for UCLA and I hope you get everything you work so hard for! 💕
conan, you're a life saver. before i watched this video, i was extremely anxious about high school. i'm going to be a freshman for the 2017-2018 school year and i always thought that it would be extremely scary and hard but honestly i feel like even though i don't know you personally, i feel like you're a friend of mine. you help everyone and you seem so positive about everything. you help so many people and you don't even know any of them. you're the best and i hope you stick around for a while 💕
You're like a ray of warm sunshine, a hot tea in a winter afternoon, a good book on a rainy day or freshly washed sheets. I love you, Cone, thank you for this. It was super helpul 💛
i begin school as a freshman in a week, and bless your soul for the advice! im a huge procrastinator and have had trouble with friends recently, and your video really helped calm my nerves~ much love!
this video kind of scared me. i hope someone will read this and give me their thoughts!! ever since i've been in school, i've always struggled with work. i love to learn, i'm creative and bright, but i freaking HATE homework. i know everyone does but im serious, homework to me is like water to oil. i've just never been able to stay consistent and motivated with my work for more than a month. my natural response for my whole life is just to stress about it and tear myself apart in attempt to change and do my work. i understand that junior high is super easy. but it got so bad that in eighth grade i ended up depressed and suicidal, i went to a mental hospital. freshman year of high school i stopped hating myself for not doing homework, and i did at first really struggled with harmful friends and behaviors but eventually I've gotten to the point where i am now; i love myself, ive never been happier and i'm grateful for every day i have. i want to go to college and i test well, i took an ap course that gave me freedom with my deadlines and i did well. but i just. cant. do. homework. Please share your thoughts..
To be honest I forget who said this, but something that really struck me was when a TH-camr said on the topic of making friends was that you should ask questions that you WANT to know the answers to. Not just talking about the weather or what they did over the weekend and then you space out and are just glad that you're having a conversation because you're bad at that... It's so simple but it really helps. 💕
LOVE your thoughts on dealing with bullying! My family had just migrated to Australia at the time, I was the new girl and a girl of a different ethnicity! I guess it was so new to them to see not only a new girl but a girl of different ethnicity. The first encounter in their immediate environment. People are afraid of what they don't know. I had a group of boys sent to suspension after a week at my new school due to verbal and physical bullying and harassment. Even though I didn't know how to speak a word of English then, I made it a point to let someone know what happened so those kids were aware of their actions and that those actions were NOT going to fly with me and definitely NOT how you treat another human being. They got what they deserved and funnily enough, years later, some of them are my closest friends now. Don't be afraid! Speak up and stand your ground.
This video helped me feel more confident about going to highschool. I am very shy and awkward. I was worried about being alone in high school. Hopefully, I can make at least one friend.
I teared up a bit watching this video. This video was the best advice video ever. I also want to get into UCLA and i used to think id never get into it bc of my grades( i have had one D so far in my highschool years; im a sophmore) or its to expensive or its just a dream of mine but this video really made me believe that a dream can be reailty and finding a passion is such an important thing. I will apply for UCLA with every bit of passion i have now. Thank you Conan for everything.♡
I love this video, as usual. I just wanted to say that from people I've spoke to that graduated college, colleges are looking for people more well rounded and show they're a leader. That's why they don't accept everyone based on grades but now looking at if this person was sociable such as starting club, extra curricular with other people and something that they love to do. Because before when they looked at only grades they were producing people who were the opposite of all that and didn't know how to work with others and we need more of that in the world. :) hope this helped to anyone reading!
Another tip from me about making friends Since the first time I struggled to make friends people would tell me ,,well just go talk to others" or ,,get something that will interest them in you" and ,,ask them this, ask them that, do this do that" etc. I gotta say NEVER do these things. That way Making friends just became similar to school work. It became something I have to focuse on, be creative for, put work in it, make it with someone I don't even actually want with and genuinely a thing I didn't like. If you want an actual friendship it will very simply happen. You will just feel like you clicked with that person/friend group and you won't have to force yourself to talk to them, you actually won't stop talking to them if they are right for you! The thing is if it's the right person/friend group for you, you will feel very connected from the FIRST moment you meet. For some people this happens everywhere they go, for some it still never happened and other situations in between. For me it happened only twice but I'm really happy it did. Also I personally think this is the only way you will find true friendships. By just letting it happen if it happens because as I said forcing yourself to like/ask/do/talk about/claim certain things you don't truly want to just to ,,make friends" won't help. I can't guarantee this is all 100% true because everyone's reality is different but this is mine. Hope I helped someone
tip: it's okay to lose friends. some times you can have a group of friends from freshman year and then the summer before senior year you could lose them all. but it's okay. they aren't meant to be there if they aren't. you will always find one person who will be there for you. also don't hate your past friends. they taught you something. be thankful.
actually you can resent them if they hurt/bullied you somehow. sometimes it's better to be not ok with some people, they aren't worth being in your memories.
I wish I knew this before anyway better late than never much needed thnx

Abdi Videos I've never related to a comment more

college lesson for all yall (esp. for anyone who's a procrastinator like me lmao):
- study whenever you can. not like overboard, stress yourself out, cramming kind of studying, but like a quick look at overviews and general stuff then mark what you need to look at more in depth later. maybe during a car/bus ride, break between classes, or even the walk between classes. a couple of minutes can make the difference between a pass and a fail. also try to study the same subject at the same time & day each week. having a routine gets you into the zone quicker
- totally make use of like audio versions of textbooks or reviews based on your classes. listening to them while cleaning, walking, eating, etc. really helps.
- read ahead! dont come to class not having read the topics bc you will spend most of the class trying to keep up with the notes T---T (hopefully ur profs wouldve given you a detailed syllabus detailing when youll start each topic
- take breaks and dont feel guilty about them! just 10 mins to doodle, watch a video, or walk makes a /huge/ difference. to make sure you dont go over the time limit (like meeeeee) set like a really loud or annoying alarm (kitchen timer, phone, or like ur wake up alarm)
- MOST IMPORTANT: wake up at the same time everyday. trust me. not doing this will screw you over so hard. i cant count the amount of times i missed consultations or my morning classes. it doesnt matter if your classes dont start at the same time everyday, just wake up at the same time. (and please go to sleep early or youll regret it in your next class!!)
i could probably ramble more but echh im lazy
good luck to everyone!!! :> hope this helps a little bit

some hopefully helpful college advice for everyone (this is gonna be long so grab some snacks folks):
- get at least a week ahead of your readings - when assessments come up you will be glad, trust me
- start your assessments when you get them - you need time to research, process information and develop and flesh out your ideas
- don't stress too much about grades - of course, you want to do well, but it's important to rationalise as at the end of the day, the longer it's been since you left uni, the less employers care about your GPA (they care more about experience and skills). Furthermore, Ps get degrees.
- if you're sitting in class or waiting for class to start, make conversation with the person next to you and be friendly as you never know when you'll make a new friend and/or need someone to talk to about the coursework
- get involved in societies/groups and go to events you get emails about (e.g. networking & careers events) - gotta get that work-play balance yo (plus it's also good for your resume/career)
- don't set your expectations too high, especially in terms of making friends.
- on a similar note, if they ignore you even though you're sufficiently acquainted to make conversation, they're a bit of a shithead and don't deserve your time, energy or mind-space (thoughts? idk)
- the people who always say hello and/or make conversation with you whenever you see them, regardless of how close you are, they are worth your time.
And, just a friendly reminder and my personal mantra for the next 4 years, Ps get degrees.
plausibleliar thank you so much
Thank you, this really helped
No worries :) I hope you enjoy your time at uni/college 💛
Or just life in general ahah ☺️
I finished my degree last year--and completely agree, this is so helpful!
I had like three crushes during my freshman and sophomore year but I was never like the typical girl and I never made an effort I just admire them from afar.
Rosie Rosario me toooo admiring from a far seems like a great option
The ‘typical’ girl usually doesn’t do anything about her crushes haha
That's fine until you become so conscious of their presence that you mess up your presentations.
Could you say you were.. people watching?
Tips to succeed in college:
- get involved in clubs!!
- put all of your semester's assignments and exams on a calendar right away
- look for campus events (free food ;) )
- find a study buddy in every class
- party with people you like, not people who seem popular
- talk to an advisor about your career path
- have fun
anyone else watching this in 2022? i'm going into high school this year, and seeing Conan talk about it makes me feel less nervous, I will definitely watch this video a lot of times before school starts.
Class of 2026, whats up lol
@@kidwiththekoolaid hey, if you’ve started school yet, how was the first week? I started last Wednesday, and it was kind of overwhelming at first, but I feel a lot better now.

Honestly, I could watch a one hour video of you talking about cheese and not get bored.
Maybeline Marie literally me too
This is the first high school advice video I've seen that's actually helpful. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for adding that bit in and not painting it so that it's utterly impossible for kids that work hard to get in if they're not amazing at one specific thing.

totally agree with that education-wise. but if someone's being bullied 24/7, even if they are in a high class private school, they won't be grateful. and they shouldn't. some things still need to change in the system. WORLDWIDE.
my day has been made and i'm only 15 seconds in the video
As an outgoing kid, seeing the surprise of shy kids when I talk with them and smiled at them is super cute and I’m always so happy when they’re comfortable enough to start conversations on their own with me

Procrastination is the enemy of high school
i put the pro in procrastination ;)
I'm extremely shy, awkward, and anti-social. I carry a book around with me at all times and avoid eye contact. Most kids act like I'm too fragile to talk to. I have depression and my anxiety increases by a crazy amount when at school. Is it alright to just be miserable with no friends haha? That's the root it looks like I'm heading. -Small Town High School Sophomore

Emily Bee aw thank you haha
Remaid girl me too peopleing is so hard
oh my goodness, don't I know haha you're so right
Yanely Ayala THAT'S WHAT I AM SAYING HAHA
i live an extremely conservative area and unfortunately most of my class mates are very close minded and bully anyone of differences. ❤️
yep yep yep!!!
Conan, it seems like your biggest tip from this vid was to truly go with follow your passion when it came to finding a college thats right or you. Could you make a video about how to find that passion or how at least realize that you have one?
you're my favorite human being.
Friend Tip: Don't be afraid to be the first one to talk just because its awkward. Best friendships starts at being awkward to one another!
And remember: All good things come to those who wait💗
diamondintherough xo Thank you my dear
I have this problem where I visit Conan's channel literally every hour and refresh to see if he uploads...
How do you hold a conversation? I think I'm confident enough to say hi to someone but then it goes down hill after that and it always ends in awkward silence.
just ask them questions, people love to talk about themselves and ya'll might have a few things in common
I'm Not Important i have that same problem 😭
I'm Not Important - talking about
pets or animals is always a good conversation starter!!
just talk about something you both find annoying and mix it with some irony or something funny, that's always a good start for a long conversation because you can go on from that point...
Thank you guys so much!! I tried this out but then I feel like the conversation becomes one sided because i only ask questions.
I feel like I can't relate to my classmates but I still care about them in a weird way - especially going to a small school with a small class so I'm surrounded by the same people like every day - so I feel like a connection is established anyway
But I feel like I can't be myself and talk about how amazing Conan's aesthetic is or something like that
So I'll usually end up saying nothing at all
NOTE: if you actually took the time to read this, I ❤️️ you xx
cold brew why are you me?
💘
The same kind of thing happened to me because I was in a small program so everyone in my grade, while I didn’t really know all of them, I knew them and had that connection. I love when I relate to things 💕
I'm only a sophomore in HS but I struggle with self doubt and self loathing, and the one thing I found really helps is positive affirmations. They might seem really silly at first, but keep telling yourself that you are STRONG and AWESOME, and that you CAN do whatever you are doing. Just start! It can't hurt! flip the switch in your brain because you have control over your own head.
i might try this>!
Yeah!
emmaforddd I love that!
i'm in this exact position right now, and am also a sophmore in hs
Cyanide Thunderstorm thank you, great advice💖
meggle thank you very much, i don't understand either buy unfortunately that's the way it currently is🙁💗
to be honest, its way way super easy to make friends in high school, i went into highschool with a couple of close friends because we went to the same middle sschool (and its amazing the drama hasent broken us apart becuase i do cross countrey and im lazy and an art person and my friend is shy and quiet and smart and a totoal nerd! and my other friend is laoud and charming and on the friggen football team!) were very different people but ok, its so easy to make friends i started with 2 and i now have.... damn i dont even know! highschools nothing like the movies trust me. my best advicce is to find somebody and branch off, i know your shy but other people arent, if you dont talk to somebody, fine, but somebody will talk to you i can gurentee, im an amnivert (introverted and extroverted equal parts) so i often found myself looking for the shy kids and giving them a shot becuuase i knew what it was like yo be shy but i knew theyd really appresiate somebody outgoing to talk to them, i talked to every shy person i saw (and im not the friendlyest person, i glare at teachers and eat food in there face and listen to music all class especially when they tell me to stop) but i had some really great conversations with these randdom peopel, idk where im going with this, i just think that even if you dont talk all that much somebody will talk to you, and please PLEASE talk back! its super awkwward when people just look at there shoes and dont say anything back (i know from expoerience)
This thumbnail may have just be the cutest thing in the world. Thanks Conan for this, NEED ADVICE CAUSE HIGH SCHOOL STRUGGLES

hey cone! :) here are some university tips:
1. take notes in class - use short forms of words to type/write faster (e.g. politcal discourse > pol disc (but make sure you understand them too!))
2. go through your course's syllabus as soon as it comes out
3. prepare for courses by doing your readings ahead of time
4. have mental health days
5. use your planner to record deadlines as soon as you get them!
6. try to view uni as something you enjoy a lot!
anyways, i think you'll do great bc university is mostly about hard work and you're v hardworking!
And if you are in your sophomore, junior or senior year, remember it is never too late to do well or improve yourself.
lol whoops @ first sentence
I start high school this year and i have really bad social anxiety and this made me feel a lot better about the whole thing
nolie blue same, hope you feel better about yourself as i am trying to aswell
nolie blue high school isnt as scary as it seems ((: just walk in there, be confident, get involved and enjoy it... high school goes by fast and once its over, most of the stuff that went on doesnt matter much anymore (aka dont stress) !!
evann christina you obviously don't have social anxiety.
Its gonna be 1 million times better than middle school, I know that much.

if ive learned anything about highschool is its litteraly nothing like any book or tv show or movie leads on, doubt anybodys gonna turn there back on you, there are snakes but its litterlaly SO easy to avoid them! i go to a school where 75% of the guys in our grade do football. two of my best friends are a part of that and the are quite honestly the ONLY nice guys that play this damn sport in my grade, i got pretty lucky and there friends who ar not so nice hang out themm alot but i litterlay have never had to deal with them, i just simply walk away or look at my phone. boom, snake avoided
the snakes sometimes disguise themselves as your friend
We should be friends....
conan as a freshman this helped me more than all the teachers and adults who have advised me. this eased so much of my anxiety and i'm just so grateful to have found you
I'm starting school in 2 weeks and I'm so thankful that this video exist. Conan just saved my awkward lame self
I just want to say that conan looks so soft and cute in that pastel yellow tee ike i just want to hug him💛
as a sophomore who's freshman year was on a computer I greatly appreciate this Conan ✨ also so proud of how far you have come!! ☺️
i was so much in need of this
once again, cone has delivered
thanks so much 💛
conan is so right about how outgoing people should be friends with shy people. Shy people are always so sweet and loyal

Hey Cone🍦 and all the college newbies 👼
I'm currently a college student studying 3D animation in South Africa. 💞
Good luck to all you college freshies! You'll kill it 🎉
i don't think you have any idea how happy and relieved I felt while watching this video. You really made me realize how important every moment is and how happiness doesn't have to wait until you get a job and have a family. You made everything sound so clear and I'm really thankful for that.
19 mins god bless
IM LIVING!!
AND GOODBYE
marley michelle I actually said it in my head while typing this. It's a ritual
Ahhh Conan, you are so inspirational. I love how you are unapologetically yourself even though people made fun of you for being different. You are such a beautiful person and I'm so grateful for you💙
New favourite quote:
"wham-bam. a friend."
You won't regret it at all 💖❣️
when you're in eighth grade but you still watch the video because you love conan more than life itself.
cone can you make a video on how you beat procrastination? I've been struggling with that for years!
J. Victor Rocha there is this channel called "krist &yu" (all lowercase) and she has a great video that can hopefully help with that. Goodluck💙

Thank you so much cone!! I'm going be a freshman in month and tbh it's hella worried about starting in a new environment. Idk why I don't know what will happen that makes me excited but scared . This kinda calmed me in a sense
CONAN CONGRATULATIONS I CAN'T WAIT FOR UR SINGLE AND I'M SO PROUD OF U
Seriously, Conan's channel is so underrated, I love his channel!!!
Going into senior year and can't wait for college, thank you for this Lil cone 💖
"i believe in you, best of luck xx - cone"
I HAVE TO PRINT THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF ALL MY NOTEBOOKS.
17:23 - 17:30 I NEED TO SAVE THIS CLIP AS WELL
I'm about to start my senior year of highschool and honestly I love how I'm just now getting organized
conan, you're a life saver. before i watched this video, i was extremely anxious about high school. i'm going to be a freshman for the 2017-2018 school year and i always thought that it would be extremely scary and hard but honestly i feel like even though i don't know you personally, i feel like you're a friend of mine. you help everyone and you seem so positive about everything. you help so many people and you don't even know any of them. you're the best and i hope you stick around for a while 💕
*the only thing I needed*
GLAD I WOKE UP TO THIS
Jallabee gurl wow I love your videos
dai blossom oMG WTH THANKS IM 💓💓
Hii I’m from the future , how were your high school years?
:) hope this helped to anyone reading!
conan: *talks about not procrastinating and not doing hw at night*
me: *is currently doing the exact opposite lol*
Another tip from me about making friends
Since the first time I struggled to make friends people would tell me ,,well just go talk to others" or ,,get something that will interest them in you" and ,,ask them this, ask them that, do this do that" etc.
