Yes, a great guide to mixing chemistry. I see so many people get this wrong.... hopefully this will help.

Which chemicals are affected by air and which are not? Is it only developers?

So, wich is better in terms of cost efficiency? I've used the Unicolor and Cinestill kits, but I feel they're not giving me enough quality and want to try a different developing brand.

So I guess with the liquid concentrate, the water you dilute it with doesn’t need to be at a specific temperature. I have some developer that’s a liquid concentrate, and it doesn’t mention anything about it as well.

Some powder developers do need hot water to dissolve fully, it will be on the packaging.

@@TheNakedPhotographer ok, how about disposing of chemicals? I’ve been flipping through some my darkroom books and they don’t mention anything about what to do with used chemicals.

Excellent video, Please what us your opinion about Caffenol? I've used it with great success and dirt cheap costs.

How necessary is it for serious ventilation when doing open tray development with Ilford chemicals like Ilfosol 3, Multigrade Developer, and Ilford Rapid Fixer? I develop in my bathroom.

Just developing film should be ok. If you’re going to spend all day in there you’ll get headaches

@The Naked Photographer I love your videos. I just recently started to develop my B&W film and I still learn about the process (you live - you learn). I just wonder how to recycle developer, stop and fixer that is not working anymore? I know that I can try to get some silver out of fixer, but my question more is about: how to recycle chemicals safely and nature friendly? Should you neutralize chemicals somehow and than send them to company that recycle chemicals? What is the best practice? Please share your experience here or in video.

Let the chemical evaporate in a tray and throw away the remaining solids in the trash

As has been the case, another excellent presentation. My experience has been the the value of power ventilation when mixing formulas from bulk chemicals cannot be understated. Not many bulk chemicals commonly used in mixing are significantly toxic, however pyro and its family of related developing agents are very toxic and deserve every caution when mixed. If you mix a lot of chemicals, a magnetic mixer quickly moves from the luxury to a necessity

    • @TheNakedPhotographer

I have a magnetic mixer, but since it isn’t all too common, I decided not to use it here. I do like it, though. Thanks for the kind words!

What is the hose you are using for water? Also what is the set up for controlling the temp? It would be nice to have links to were to buy this stuff.

I have two different videos you may to see. One is about my water mixing panel I put together with links to parts, the other is about the plumbing with hoses across the back of my sink.

Hello, Greg how are you :-)
I enjoy your videos very much, I find them very instructive and precise in a sample way to understand.
I have a question, I would appreciate if you answer me
How I can mix 1 Lt with Kodak Liquid Fixer, Solution A
I have tried to find information but each of the videos here only explains in 1,2,& 3 gallons
I just want to prepare 1 Lt.
    Kodak Liquid Fixer, Solution A
    Thank you very much :-)
    Cheers, buddy

1 part fixer concentrate and 4 parts water. So 200ml of fixer to 800ml of water.

Two questions from my side: 1st. Why don't you use PROTECTAN SPRAY as a ANTIOXIDIZING AGENT to protect your chemicals from oxygene? 2nd. Do you always use tap water or in some cases also destilled water? Thx for your great videos.

    • @TheNakedPhotographer
      @TheNakedPhotographer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

I’m going to cover the topic of oxidation in a future video. As for water, I filter my tap water in the darkroom but will still use distilled for certain solutions.

Hi, excellent video BUT one little thing: I suggest one puts in the whole powder package under water level (perhaps after cutting off the full top of the package) and thus avoid any air borne powder particles. Much safer (and easier) especially as not every temporary Darkroom will have such a powerful fan available.
Keep up the good work, always a pleasure to watch! R.
