There are many songs like this that I remember hearing a loooong time ago and just assumed they were really popular songs without questioning them. Now all these years later I find them again and see that they only have a few million views, and wonder how that's possible

+mohamed maamar I am not an interpreter or expert in translation, and since this is a folk song with many expressions used specifically in my country Venezuela, I’m sure a lot of it will be lost in translation. But I will first try to say what the song is about and the context; then sort of literal translation as I did months ago and next the lyrics in Spanish. It’s too long, my apologies for that.
Canto de Pilón is a work song that were sung by the persons (mostly women) who grinded maize to make “arepas” (a flat, round, unleavened patty made of soaked, ground kernels of corn maize; it’s sort of Venezuela’s -and Colombia’s- bread) the old-fashioned way by pounding shucked maize kernels in a large wooden mortar called a pilon.
The pilon is believed to have been brought to Venezuela from Africa with the slaves who worked the sugar, cacao and coffee plantations. Before that, the indigenous tribes of Venezuela used stone metates for grinding their maize, similar to the ones still used in Central America and Mexico. (I got this info from venezuelanfoodanddrinks.blogspot.com/2009/01/arepa-de-pilon-making-arepas-hard-old.html and there is also a short video; please note that nowadays almost everybody uses corn flour industrially produced and pilon is no needed anymore)
In the past (from colonial times to independent period in XIX century and until first half of 20th century) the maize grinding activity with continuous pounding could be sort of boring; so the women in charge sang the Cantos de Pilón not only to entertain themselves but also to transmit latest news, to gossip and to speak good or evil of someone.
In the case of this song (spoiler alert!) lyrics are not glamorous, religious or political (and it mentions a pig; sorry if this offends sensibilities). The woman is singing that she is pounding the maize very hard in the mortar because she needs to fatten a pig and buying clothing for her; she says that and also comments on a wedding, not describing nicely the bride and groom and speaking ill of the bride. Finally, the woman pounding expresses her preference over young single guys instead of old married men.
.
Now the translation (sort of, please excuse my very bad English language, here and everywhere; in brackets not translation but some further clarification)
Hit hard that pilon, eeh oh, eeh oh
Break it finally, eeh oh, eeh oh
'Cause in the woods
there are lots of sticks and my dad knows how to make it [a new pilon/mortar], eeh oh, eeh oh
I already have a headache, eh oh, eeh oh
‘Cause I hit the pilon so many times, eeh oh, eeh oh
Just to fatten a pig and to buy a blouse for me, eeh oh, eeh oh [the idea here is that with the maize she will feed her pig, then sell it and then buy new clothes for her]
Up there on the hill, eeh oh, eeh oh
There is a civil wedding [ceremony], eeh oh, eeh oh
The gal with the mouth like a donkey [a big toothy mouth; not exactly a compliment] and the guy with the neck like a violin [probably meaning a very skinny man; not flattering words either] got married, eeh oh, eeh oh
And the idiot woman thinks, eeh oh, eeh oh
that she deserves everything, eeh oh, eeh oh
And she lives in a shitty hut that wind makes it tremble, eeh oh, eeh oh [still speaking ill about the newlywed gal]
I don’t like a married man, eeh oh, eeh oh
Because it reeks of sore skin, eeh oh, eeh oh [it may refer to old people’s skin or a horse skin with wounds because of continuous scratch of the saddle]
I prefer a young man because he smells like ripe pineapple, eeh oh, eeh oh
Yo no quiero hombre casa’o, ii-oh, ii-oh
I hope this helps.
