A newer apple in the USA is called "Sweet Tango" and they come from New Zealand. Nice texture and great flavor. Only apples I prefer to eat if given any choice
When I was in Scotland I was too overwhelmed with excitement to much. So, I visited the Co-op nearly every day for 2 weeks and just popped a sandwich into my bag to eat whenever I felt the need. I loved it so much and truly miss the convenience of it. Our convenience stores are dodgy when it comes to food.
ELLLLOOO my friend. I missed you so much. I'm right now for the first time in my life in Scotland, and trust me: I stay here for 8 months. I love the country a lot. People are so very friendly. Think I am going to make much friends here. And Irn bru is fantastic. People care so much for other people here.
WOW, That convenience store looks like a small supermarket. I'm very impressed with it. So much nicer than the ones here in the part of the USA I live in.
I'm going to be that person. "Eating out" anything without "from" or "at" preceding the place in question in American slang means something far different than it does for Scottish people. The video's lovely and I'm glad to see your spark is back. You simply managed to dub this video "giving cunnilingus Scottish convenient stores." The sushi cannot be that good. ;)
I realy like when you get out and show what normal people do in an average life in Scotland. I see videos on the countryside, and tourist sites, and how we are different, but you rarely see stuff showing what it is like to just be a person living there. Granted, I am way older than you and "normal" may be different for me than it is for a pretty young lass like yourself, but you do a great job presenting and I would love to see your take on it.
Great to see/hear you! 👀👂 The times I have visited Scotland, lunch was most often convenience store foods and dinner was restaurant-esque... like a chippie, a small café or full blown eating out, knives and forks and glasses of water/wine 😃 I'm good with any content...travels, food, games, sights, shite-talking, shopping...you name it, I'm there for it! I love an expensive Pink Lady, too 😉 hello from Denmark 🌸 🌱
Scotch pie is literally the most delicious thing that want experience when I get to Scotland food wise. Gotta try haggis. But Scott pie... Speaks to my soul!
Thank you for sharing Scottish treats of love!!! I would like to try all these...Scots pie, chicken&bacon(I never heard of chicken with bacon before) and pink lady.
The UK isn't the only place you get lopsided sandwiches. Our 7-11 convenience stores do the same thing, everything upfront. I agree with you on the Pink Ladies, but they are hard to find in the Pacific Northwest of the US. Thanks for the videos, I like seeing Scotland from your viewpoint.
I think what you're calling a convenience store, like the co-op, are closer to what we used to have called "General Stores". They sold a bit of everything, including groceries, but they're closer to a small grocery store with hardware, than a convenience store. Most are gone, because they've been replaced with the convenience stores, usually part of a gas station, and have a very limited selection of pretty much everything. (And the mega- grocery stores) Usually the only hot food is hot dogs, and cold sandwiches you can put in a microwave.
Hahah damn all the ham is in the front 😂 when I went to Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪 last month I went to the convenience shops ( Londis and Spar ) for grab and go lunch stuff and saved my Euros 💶 for the expensive suppers at night at the pubs. 👍 I did splurge for a full Irish breakfast one morning, though. Next year, Mosco I WILL be seeing Scotland 🏴 in all it’s glory…
I swear to god, swearing sounds SO MUCH COOLER in your accent!! (I'm American, Midwestern, so swearing is so...generic when I do it.) Great video, I love seeing you try and talk about foods. I've always found what people eat a fascinating subject!
I am so glad you are back on youtube our wee scottish lass. Now as to your question I have been to several like Tesco but I enjoy Gregg's. I love their food. Stay wonderful and stay awesome.
I tried Pink Lady apples after you recommended them in an earlier video (since I also love Granny Smith) and they're excellent. My new go-to. I've heard convenience store sandwiches in the UK are better quality than in the US. I'll have to try the hot Scotch pie on a bun when I go to Scotland. Thanks for the tip! I'd love to know more about Scottish street foods.
I absolutely love Pink Lady apples. We do have them in the US as well. It's a great mix between sweet and tart. Also, mangos are my favorite fruit, so it's good to know the packaged mango is a good choice for when I go to Scotland.
I absolutely love Scottish meat pies!! Would go over the border from Buffalo to Fort Erie Canada to get them when I was a kid with my grandmother who was born in Kilmarnock. There was a place called Donovan's bakery in the Philadelphia area that used to make them. God I miss eating these.
I'll be going to a Renaissance Festival in a month or so. They try to organize the shoppes and taverns by theme, but the places really bleed over into one another willy-nilly. Recommend some authentic historical period-appropriate Scottish food and brews for me to be on the lookout for. I'm more of a shepherd's pie sort of guy than a haggis hooligan. I rocked a beard and kilt last time and got pounced upon right inside the front gate and was invited to the Highland Games, but me back said that didn't seem like such a good idea. It still do nae.
Oh my goodness, you absolutely brought back memories of when I studied abroad and ate those sandwiches at least 2-3 times a week 😂💕 thank you for that!
In the UK they are Walkers, and in the US they are Lays, but in both places they take over the chip (crisp) section with just "thousands" of bags of their stuff. Glad to see they do it everywhere, not just here in the States...if "glad" is the correct word, lol! ~Be Blessed
So nice to have you back! Love your videos. Miss your old intro. Very useful info I wish I had when I visited before, you know, hit. I usually went to Pret for a grab and go, but now have this info to help for the next visit. Thanks!
Pink lady, honey crisp, and gala are some pretty good eating apples. That hot scotch pie reminds me of a small version of this French meat pie I'll sometimes buy at this small grocery store in my area. Definitely learned that these pies need the brown beef gravy.
I like taking the pie and loading the top with mashed potatoes and gravy. Been a long time since I've had one (my granny used to make them when I was a kid). I looked up a recipe and it calls for mutton but she always used beef because we raised cattle and not sheep. We would load them up and eat them while working the cattle during the day when I was out of school.
They have Scottish pies in some places in northern England too. Often they are missing the hole in the middle where your dad sticks his finger into it to test to see if it's fully cooked and screams some profane four letter words when it is.
We ate in the small cafes they were really reasonable. Of course we had to try Greggs and the Pie man a definite must. I can't wait to make another trip over.
I loved the video. And any time you want to show us around Scotland, I’m up for the trip. It’s the thousands of little differences that make each country unique, so videos like this teach so much.
When I traveled to "that side of the pond", I totally lived on convenience store food. AND on a sidenote, you've been to Japan...the "7-11"! That could be a three meal a day place. LOL
Those sandwiches are exactly like the ones here. And if you look closely, the ham or turkey slice ones are only 1 and a half slices folded over several times. And yeah, it's all up front, regardless of what type of sandwich it is.
In the US we have around 10 or so different apples that I can think of off the top of my head. If you like apples, try getting one of every apple available, cut them up into small pieces and place into a large bowl, then cover with plastic wrap and shake well and place in the fridge for 24-28 hours. The juices and flavors mix really well together.
Hi, I really enjoyed this video. I loved seeing the roads you drive on and your shops. Pink Lady is one of our favorites too second only to the Honey Crisp apple~WV Grammy~
The Pink Lady is a great apple. I agree. Here in the US, the Gala is a lot like the Pink Lady. The PL was developed in 1973 by Australian John Cripp; so some know it as the Cripp apple. The Gala and the PL have very similar structures, tastes, etc. While in Scotland I always hit up the Co-Op and I try to find the best bargains, but I did have to laugh that the sandwiches are found out in the open,. The thing to remember is that the arrive about 7:00 a.m. so they're not out that long; still, here in the U.S. you'll have people screaming for a 50% discount if it's not cold.
Those are convenience stores with fresh food. In the US you can get hot dogs that have been on a hot roller all day or dry, shriveled piece of pizza from a warmer bin. Yours looked like a gourmet meal compared to our convenience store types of foods. Now we do have sandwich shops & pizza shops which have great food - shout out to Pudgie’s Pizza 🍕 & Southside Sub Shop!
Humm Pink lady apples! I use to love the granny smith and still do but the do tend to be sourer. What kinda off apple do I recommend? Well the honey crisp are good, but I recommend any type of apple that hasn't gone bad. They are all good! Change it up and eat different apples. I done Convenient Stores eating but in L A they can be pricey something. I know the ones at gas, petrol, station are not cheap. Although the one by my work did have Irn-Bru before so that was interesting, but since I don't drink sodas, fizzy drinks, I had to pass it up. Great video. Love it as always.
The mince pie looks really good, I’ll have to see if I can find something similar here in the states. No luck yet on finding Irn Bru. Have a great week.
When you do find Irn Bru over here it's not the same. It aint bad but if you have had the real stuff it aint it. The number one difference is they use real sugar where over here everything has to be stinking corn syrup.
They do that sandwich thing in the US too lol. I just take it apart and spread the meat slices around a bit more. My go-to apples are gala. Sweet, but not the sweetest.
Tammy is the COOP an agricultural store, that's what we in South Africa call agricultural stores. Do you have Nando's pride of South Africa? Lastly as far as apples go I was team Golden Delicious but I to changed to Pink Lady.
We have Pink Lady apples in the US and I agree they are in my top 3 of apples but try the Jazz apples….also in my top 3….they are smaller but they pack in the sweetness!! Nice to see you btw!!!!
Great vlog, really enjoyed seeing the inside of the shop. My trip to the UK 7+ years ago, I found out about those Lunch Combos at Tesco, saved me some money on my holiday. I did get a pork pie in York that was very very taste and very very greasy..
Filled rolls in some shops are the same....filling at the front nothing in the rest lol I used to stop at 1 on Granton Road always got extra to add to my roll :)
I love your videos! Kinda surprised you didn't know that Granny Smith apples are baking apples. They tend to be more tart (sour) so that when you add the sugar for apple pies and such, it's not overwhelmingly sweet. Red and Golden Delicious are two of my favorite sweet eating apples. Now, I've gotta try Scotch Pies! Sounds great, and also sounds kinda easy to make??? Guess I'll find out. Keep having fun!
Awesome video. Here in America the closest thing we got to that is a QT, which is basically a large gas station. I kinda wish we had those kind of stores because I am awful at making my lunch ; _ ;
Cripps Pink is the OG proper name for the trademark of Pink Lady. Find that info on the apple and you've got the good stuff. I prefer them to honeycrisp(too sweet for me). 8:55
"Convenience Stores" in the US are NOT cheap - they're there for your 'convenience,' and therefore charge a premium, usually a good 50-100% normal market prices. They're usually gas stations (petrol), which is their real moneymaker. The only things I've found cheaper at a convenience store than a normal grocery store are canned chili and fountain drinks - and not at the same store.
I have tried the sandwiches from a Co-op in Tobermory and I must say, much better than pre-packed ones in Canada! I had egg salad because I dont eat meat. Definitely a good option when traveling on a budget! Will try the pink lady apples next time I'm over there!
Sandwiches here in the States aren't much different at our shops, but that pie looked delicious! I like Pink Lady apples, however they are expensive here. My favorite are Gala apples. Sweet, and cheaper (cheapest are red delicious, but I don't like the taste of them as much). Well now I know a think to try when I finally get to take that trip to Scotland. Great video!
Those Pink Lady apples, though. We've recently started getting them here and they're just tart enough that they're not overly sweet. And they're crisp without bring rock hard.
I find pink lady and braeburn apples to be a little too tart at times. I actually like fuji and gala apples a little more for that reason...still fairly firm, but a lighter taste :) great video idea! Thanks for sharing this
A lot of people don't eat the crust anyway so having all the meat in the middle is fine with them, to me, they don't know what a crust is until they eat a mothers pride sandwich with a real crust
Gas station food is looked down on in the states. It’s more of a eat if you have to kind of thing. But I’ll say we have pink ladies here as well and they are good. And Arkansas black apple is kinda my jam.
A massive thank you to Australia for Pink Lady Apples! Thank you for blessing us!
Good tip on the meal deal! CoOps save me lots!
I remember when pink lady apples launched in the uk. There was a yacht named pink lady taking part in one of the races
I was a huge Granny Smith apple eater all my life here in the USA, until I started trying the Honey Crisp.
A newer apple in the USA is called "Sweet Tango" and they come from New Zealand. Nice texture and great flavor. Only apples I prefer to eat if given any choice
Pink Lady is what I go for, too. Those Scotch Pies look great! I'll have to try to make some. XD
You have been missed. Good to see you back.

It's good tae huv ye back wee lass 😄
It's sooo nice to see the twinkle back in your eyes.
I did a summer semester in London like 15 years ago and practically lived off of Tesco sandwiches 😂
WOW, That convenience store looks like a small supermarket. I'm very impressed with it. So much nicer than the ones here in the part of the USA I live in.
I love mango and pink lady apples. Everything looked delicious. My mouth is watering even though I just ate recently.

Good to see you back Tammy. You canny beat a hot onion scotch pie on a roll with brown sauce.

Its good to see you Mosco. 😊That meat pie looks good. I think the closet thing we have in my area is a meat empanada. Yumm.
My favorite apples are Braeburn, Honeycrisp, and SweeTango (last two are developed here in Minnesota, and SweeTango can be very hard to find).
Oh my goodness, you absolutely brought back memories of when I studied abroad and ate those sandwiches at least 2-3 times a week 😂💕 thank you for that!
Very cool video😀
Haven't had a pink lady just yet, but honey crisps are my favorite. Great to have you back, Mosco!

hey, nice to see you back, hope you've been well. theres a place a couple hours away from my state that sells scotch pies that are pretty delicious
That was fun to watch....know not why just fun. ✌️👍☮️

Come on over to Hood River, Oregon and take trip on the Fruit Loop during harvest time and the giant red apples.
Going to Scotland in October. Very helpful! Pink Lady Apples are great!
4:50 mango with Tajin(tuh-heen)/chili lime powder.. is so delicious! Bit spicy with a kick of lime. Or, just some lime on those mango pieces. Yum!
They have Scottish pies in some places in northern England too.
Often they are missing the hole in the middle where your dad sticks his finger into it to test to see if it's fully cooked and screams some profane four letter words when it is.

😏 Yeah. That happens in the US, too.
Loved this! Show us more of your neck of Scotland.
When I traveled to "that side of the pond", I totally lived on convenience store food. AND on a sidenote, you've been to Japan...the "7-11"! That could be a three meal a day place. LOL

Whoop Whoop Meat pies! and your driving on the wrong side of the road lol. I grew up on a farm in Aberdeenshire, near Edzel Military base.

Fantastic video! Love the culture exchange! Looking forward to more!
The hot Scotch pie looks so good. Brown sauce, good to know. Now to get to Scotland and the Mid Scot co-op.
I used to live on Scottish pies and sausage rolls from Sainsbury’s when i lived in Edinburgh back in ’17.
Saved this for my trip to Scotland next year
My fave apple in the States is a Honeycrisp. That Scotch pie looked amazing!

aye im had a few of them, when i was over there. got my mince pie in Forre Scotland
We have Pink Lady apples in the US too and yes, they are the best.
Tammy is the COOP an agricultural store, that's what we in South Africa call agricultural stores. Do you have Nando's pride of South Africa? Lastly as far as apples go I was team Golden Delicious but I to changed to Pink Lady.
I like the video it helps me learn about your country and see how it is the same or different as where i live in South Western Ontario Canada. THANKS
Here in the US we have AM/PMs and they have BBQ rib sandwiches and cheeseburgers! If you come and visit maybe you will try them.
Love the new introduction
Love Scotch pies with brown sauce ❤️ I had some yesterday. Not from a Scottish Convenient though but at the Scottish Games in NY 😁
We lived out of Stansbury Local in Edinburgh on our trips, lol.
Very useful to know. Thanks greatly.
Filled rolls in some shops are the same....filling at the front nothing in the rest lol I used to stop at 1 on Granton Road always got extra to add to my roll :)
I've got a trip in March. Three days will be in Edinburgh. I was definitely wanting to stretch my money and wondering about grocery stores.
Pink Lady apples are really really good
Yes that would be cool.
Love Pink Lady Apples! Have them in The US too.
I love your videos! Kinda surprised you didn't know that Granny Smith apples are baking apples.
