The Final Fantasy Legend, also known as Makai Toushi SaGa in Japan, is a Game Boy RPG. It is the first entry in the long running SaGa series and has a lot of strange and esoteric mechanics. You can form a team of up to four party members consisting of humans, mutants, and monsters. Each character type get stronger by wildly different means.
Darkman425 completes the game in record time by getting the 4 spheres and defeating Ashura and the Creator. Please read the author's comments (tasvideos.org/7...) for more details.

This game will always hold a special place in my heart. This, along with FFLegend 2, and Metroid 2 were there to help keep me sane while my father was deployed during Desert Storm.
As someone that was VERY attached to his father, these games and that Game Boy meant the world to me. He got them for me before he left they carried sentimental value. The Game Boy stopped working long ago, but I still have it and the three games.

Took me many countless hours as a kid to beat this game, only to watch 30+ years later as this TAS obliterates it. ;_;

Back in the day I poured countless hours into grinding my way through this game. No help, no internet, no easy answers to turn to. And after many many months of struggle and aimless wandering, I finally beat Creator and finished the game. And I sure didn't use no BS overpowered one hit kill moves either

As someone who's done a pure solo run with just a single Mutant (both M and F, individually) in the party, I wonder what a TAS would look like with just a single Mutant in the party. That SAW is just straight up nutty.

This was my first ever rpg when I was 7, I didn't understand how it worked for a long while and didn't realize how armor worked, took me a week to beat king lol.

Ha, so you can skip Gen-Bu with a teleporting mutant. I didn't know mutants could even learn teleport in this one (never got it myself, though I never picked a female mutant for my lead. Maybe that's why). I did know how to get monsters with Teleport before that point, though, so I'm not sure why I never thought to try that. 🤔

Yeah, my actual playthrough went waaaaaay diferent than this. Hoo boy. Full human party equalled a ton of grinding for weapons and potions. Oh, almost soft-locked at God because I nearly couldnt beat him.
