    Hey guys, another good post. I'm so glad you posted this video. I surfed for my first two years as a complete beginner where there were very few surfable days. I would still go out, even on flat days to build paddle strength, comfort with the board, turtle rolls (8' mini mal). When the waves were small or poor quality, then I worked pop up technique, balance and trimming. It didn't matter to me, all I wanted was to be in the water. I said to myself, everything I'm doing is building strength, stamina and muscle memory, so that when the better days come, I can be ready to make the most of it. It's all about attitude I think, especially when you're looking to progress. The other evening, I paddled out on mushy, inconsistent waves just to check out a new break and to get a paddle work out. Everything you can do will help in the long run. So, thanks again. Love the work. Keep it up. The new style is good too.

    Great video. These are typical waves at my break.
    If I could add that it’s best to keep your board in the wave face and not allowing it to go into the flat(trough) area of the wave. If you watch closely you guys follow this rule probably without thinking about it.

      @@HowtoRip It's the best feeling in the world! So many people don't know what they are missing out on! I left a comment on an older video asking you about tail grips. Instead of having to go back and read that, can you explain the purpose? I have always been a wax guy, and you did a video showing where you stand on your board (it was a video about balance, being to far forward or to far back) and you showed your rear foot about 2-4 inches in front of the tail grip. Can you do a video about the pros and cons of the tail grip and when to use it? It would clear up some confusion on my end. Thanks again and keep shredding!🏄 I love your content and it's helped me a lot the past week get back into the groove of surfing (only get to do it nowadays on vacation). As someone who lives in a place where surfing is not popular at all, I would really like to see a video where you explain how to decide if a spot is good for surfing or not, especially for beach breaks where things can get really messy.
    For example, some beach breaks have shallow bottoms(to a great extent) and you can't find a takeoff spot as the waves break in different places each time

    i used to aggree that surfing small shit waves is good but really the only benefit of surfing small shitty waves is it gets you out there surfing which is always better then not surfing at all, however KS grew up surfing sebastian inlet, which was one of the premier surf spots on the entire eastern seaboard back in its hayday... i dont think florida has produced any similar talent since sebastian is now basically a shell of its former self. Notice how the best surfers in the united states ALL come from one town and it due to one wave, lower trestles... happens to be the best wave is the state. similar to ventura/sb in the winter time. and look at john johm, grew up at the best surf spot in the world on the north shore. the best surfers come from the best waves... look at venice beach, it used to have a sick spot in POP pier, it pruduced guys like jay adams and allen sarlo but since its demise venice hasnt seen any type of talent since the wave is literally dogshit with the exception of 5-10 days a year at most. brazil also has both good and shitty waves, which makes it a very consistent place for surfing which is why the best surfers now come from brazil. point of my story, best surfers come from best waves, while the only benefit of really surfing dogshit waves is the fact surfing dogshit waves will always be better then not surfing at all, but thats basically where it ends. best surfer = best waves !00% of time....

Would you recommend something bigger or maybe a longboard to learn? Im able to stand up for a moment or two but wasnt generating enough speed since i dont really know how to paddle. I have the flexibility and core skills from doing lots of yoga, but not sure if im wasting my time trying to surf small waves on such a small board? Any recommendations??

    Hey guys, thanks for all your great videos. I started surfing in the fall. I currently ride an NSP E2 7'6". I am not doing turns yet. Do you think on the small mushy waves we get here in south Florida that I can start doing maneuvers or should I drop to a 6'6" fish first. I am currently able to surf waves as big as 3-4 feet and am using my heels and toes, just not using my upper body yet to angle where I am going. I do take lessons from an amazing instructor every couple of weeks. I'd just like to have your input on it. I was thinking by end of summer, so another 4 months, then I was going to get a fish.

    • @HowtoRip
      @HowtoRip  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely start trying turns if you feel comfortable, I think you would find it easier on the 6'6 fish you mentioned. Once again it's hard for us to recommend dimensions, etc...for people, there are many variables like your height, weight, skill level, etc...But what you have said sounds good. Making a huge change down to a 5'10 fish for example would be quite tricky, so a 6'6 sounds good. Let us know how you go Jaime, thanks for tuning in!

      Nadia Stark from Winterfell, please send Aria our regards. An interesting topic, one which has caused much speculation over the past. We are friends, much to Kales heartache...A 'bromance' rather than a 'romance'.
