    A number of such stories are out there, published under HPL's name solely, or with his name in large print and "Augie's" in very small print, such as "Witches' Hollow", "The Dark Brotherhood", "The Ancestor", "The Descendant", etc. These are NOT Lovecraft; most were cobbled up from a line or two in his Commonplace Book; a tiny handful have a bit more from him as a spark (THE LURKER AT THE THRESHOLD, for instance, has a couple of pages' worth of text which is largely his; the rest Derleth's -- and even there Derleth reworded some of it).
    Among the best of these "posthumous collaborations" is "Alhazred's Lamp", which is actually a loving tribute to his friend by Derleth, and which incorporates passages from Lovecraft's letters to him....

    The company of the dead often takes less umbrage than the finicky living. Another riveting August tale from the bowels of Arkham. Thanks again.

    I'm grateful to have these recordings of Derleth's fake collaborations with HPL recorded in audio format. These tales are not as awful as so many people insist they are, but they are indeed pale imitations of Lovecraft's excellent tales.

      My favourite false collaboration is the one where the innsmouth-tainted person is held in a farmhouse, i think it was the Shuttered Room.

    In spite of the photo of Lovecraft and Lovecraft's name in the description, H.P. Lovecraft did not write a word of this story. Most of the commentators don't seem to understand that.

    I thought this was a Lovecraft story, so when he got to the part where his fiancée turned up, I was like 'An actual woman is the companion this time? Wow!'
    But then he got to the breast grabbing and how he might share his bad with his woman if asked, and I was like 'yeah okay who wrote this.'

      Alas, the vast majority of mankind is rather obsessed with sex. I, too, find sex being needlessly inserted into whatever story tiresome.

    This is actually written by August Derleth, long after H. P. Lovecraft's death, as a "posthumous collaboration" inspired by Lovecraft's notes.

    As you know August derleth wrote this and still it's pretty tame stuff. Lovecraft has been called a prude but in his day explicit language and scenarios were considered of low breeding. Ironic in that the adaptations of his storys into film are full of nudity and vulgarity. We as a race have lost the formality of decent behavior and a desire to wax literaturel.

    • @Piledriver86
      @Piledriver86 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's nothing wrong with nudity, but I will admit it tends to detract a bit from the mood when used in this type of horror. I mean, in a slasher movie sure, but a Lovecraftian horror? It just doesnt fit.

    Hey...a splendid story. The woman's scorn saved the main character. The inflexible of "I was a little boy in this 🏠! " It looked like the place of full implausible to 👿 designs. He stayed a staunch there and there is no impasse was explained to that wicked debase from that perfect "I hate you." stare down from little boy. I WILL NOT BE THE LITTLE CUPID FOR IT IS ALL THERE IS!

    As you can tell by the over 1050 links to H. P. Lovecraft readings and performances on my CthulhuWho1 (dot) com blog, my focus is on stories that Lovecraft actually wrote, rather than stories others were inspired to write after his death; but I am developing a new web site that August W. Derleth and others will be part of, which I'll announce in a couple of months...

    Should do 'The Cairn on the Headland", which has to do with the battle of Clontarf, Brian Boru, a greedy archeologist, a sprig of mistletoe. And the god Odin. One of HPL's least anthologized, but best short stories. By Lovecraft himself, not Derleth...

      This is almost a love story, the main character and his women and his uncle and the succubus. It seems the story is about two couples, one with a conventional love and one more sadomasochistic?

      August Derleth was a contemporary and friend of Lovecraft. he finished, expanded and continued many of Lovecrafts works. The biggest difference is Derleth often focused on good vs evil where as Lovecraft worked in places beyond these motives.
