What is the nature of the Self? According to Buddhism, there is no permanent, underlying essence that we can call a 'Self'. The nature of the Self is impermanent (ever-changing) and interdependent ('empty'). Is this view of the Self meaningful for our lives and relationships? Henry Tozer, an experienced Buddhist meditation practitioner, discusses this intriguing idea and its benefits for our wellbeing and spiritual growth.
Talking Brains host Andres Canales-Johnson discusses fundamental questions of life and the human mind with thinkers of diverse and unique backgrounds, from the whole spectrum of the arts and sciences.

    Henry Tozer | Our Guest
Henry Tozer is an upcoming UK musician. As a pianist, singer and composer, he writes and records music that touches the heart, and believes that to create true music one must be able to access a pure place, free from the constraints of grasping at an ordinary, limited self. This is where his music and meditation practice merges! His music has been used in film soundtracks such as "Demolition" starring Jake Gyllenhaal and "My Blind Brother" starring Adam Scott. He is currently working towards the release of his debut album, as well as releasing a music video on TH-cam every week. His music brings together influences of classical music, old jazz singers, 60s music and contemporary angst. He discovered Buddhist meditation 12 years ago in the form of Kadampa Buddhism, a lineage of Buddhism which focuses on developing a good heart and a peaceful mind on the basis of thorough and logical investigation and analysis. He has engaged in extensive meditation retreat and has taught Buddhist meditation in Cambridge, London and New York.

The self is but another thought. A mere concept.
