I absolutely remember Nero Knives! He had a great channel and passed on a lot of great knowledge! I learned a lot from watching his channel!
Love these kinds of conversations. We probably all know if you really NEED an all terrain knife a fixed blade is the only real choice. But folders are so much more fun and interesting and these little details give us an excuse to buy another knife!🤣🤣🤣
Jazzed about all terrain knives are ya, my guy?
I'm here for it. While my day to day doesn't require these considerations, usually, but there are situations.
Yet...
Work out, stay strong, society is counting on you.
✌🏽🤘🏼
I was waiting for such a video. I absolutely agree with ur classification. Great job thanks Jerad👍
These are my kind of knives, thumb studs, washers, g-10 and cross bar lock!!!
My Benchmade 720 has Teflon and has worked great for over 20 years.
Caribbean Salt babyyy all salt no backlock. basically a sheepsfoot shaman
those are dope, i’ve been wanting one for a while. but i have the native 5 in magnacut rn and i’ve bought like 9 spydercos in a few months so i need to stop spending money 😂
Jared, you have become my “go to knife expert” , thank you for the knowledge you drop in your videos. I may have a chance soon at getting the drop bear in that titanium fade. It’s one of my grail knives because of you and I friggen hope I get it.
Another phenomenal video brought to Us by our brother Neeves. Thank you sir
I like them all 🙈
Got the Manix 2xl, love it, always wanted the Capara, maybe someday. Suprised you didn't include the Paramilitary 2. Good video Jerad. Thanks.
I will say, skiff offers thick washers which you can use to make a bearing knife into a phosphor bronze knife.
I've had the Olitan, the one with the switchable blades, for a while now and I've loved it! It's very easy to sharpen the non serrated edges and it operates very smoothly.
Awesome. That last bit was about knives that I love and currently own. Fantastic.
The ultimate knife building is...a fixed blade
Fantastic list Neeves!
I know that CRK knives use titanium for their handles, but I am a little bit shocked that they aren’t even mentioned in this video.
Especially with their new, properly heat-treated Magnacut blade steel, they’re basically corrosion-proof and will last a long time!
The knife that I trust most in the bad places is my Watauga. It's been there and done that needing only a blast of air. Next is my RSK1, then my Deka with Gmascus scales. Those are what I grab when I know I'm heading into a swamp.
This was a fabulous video, learned a lot and made me think about different elememts when choosing what to buy/carry.
I'd say ultem superior to micarta or G10 in these instances because it's not going to get cold like titanium but is non porous. The selection of knives that come with Ultem or aftermarket options for existing knives is growing, and it's currently my favorite handle material. Hogue Deka Wharnie in Ultem and Magnacut is great all terrain knife! Thanks for the video!
Just grabbed a Fir Tree edition Spartan Harsey for $350!!! I couldn't pass that up. I hope it lives up to my expectations.
That's sweet, was it secondary it had to be
@NeevesKnives it was an in store demo model, but in Like new condition.
my fave was at 16:34........SHABANG!!!
Great Video Jerad. TRM gets no love? They have interchangeable scales. I know you can’t get to all the folders you want. See ya
The Spyderco autonomy would be a great first responders knife
I might be wrong here but I tend to use a fixed blade outdoors. In certain circumstances a folder is too fidgety
Woah, clean shaven jumpscare! 👻 lookin good Jared!
Really surprised the native 5 wasn’t mentioned
Jared you are my favorite and I live QC and Soydies but can’t believe you didn’t put the carribean on this list, in all regards it the spydie chef and the v1 v2 drift are “truly” all terrain anywhere, I swim in the saltiest creeks daily with and not a hint of marring, just built a fire this weekend and carribean didn’t flinch at throwing sparks 🔥 with the sheepsfoot it may truly be the ultimate all terrain knife.
Yeah you're right that 100% shoulda been on the list smh dangit I felt I was missing one or something
Bang!
Full Titanium knives get ❄️! They turn into a heat sink and can be very uncomfortable to use below 0°. My Ti Shaman was built for this stuff though.
GGreat video brother
Got my yojimbo 2 my sage 5 and spyderco chapperal and im a happy camper 😆
Thanks my dude
Benchmade Griptilian in N680, edge retention isn't great but it will not rust and paired with the plastic handle its a great option.
Bangers
Love spydercos. Probly my fave knife brand. I jad 0 in July. I now have 15 and am so broke 🤣 i love my k390 stetch 2 and cruwear pm2
+1 on the Manix XL
Aloha from Hawaii, firefighter here. I find metal scales too slippery and they hold heat, no good around fires. Also, any decently thought out blade release is really appreciated when you're wearing gloves. We're not always using our knives in structure fires, often we use them at brushfires where thinner gloves are worn. Regarding washers/bearings, brushfires are dirty, and sometimes the only option for cleaning your knife out is a quick burst from the hoseline.
So far my go-to is anything wearing G10 or micarta, sports a kicker (which also protects any sliding fingers!), and has an easily accessible crossbar or button lock. I've had junk get into liner locks that made it hard to close. All this is solely my experience, so your milage may vary! My Spydercos have all opened easily with gloves, but again, I like the protection offered by a kicker. My Benchmade Triage has enough of a hump towards the front for my fingers to rest against though.
*Edit:* _forgot to add, I haven't had much luck with D2 out here, how about y'all in places like FL and GA? In Hawaii, it just seems to collect rust spots too easily..._
Cheee
Just curious, why did the Hogue RSK MK1 not make this category, nobody ever talks about this knife.
Hi Jerad. Do you think that ceremic cage bearings are the best option for use in any environment?
I think that are most delicate that bronze washers.
Thanks
how about one of the spiderco Series, Native 5 Magnacut?
but i live in asia region so i don't need glove for winter, it is hot here 24/7 and humid.
Cool video thanks.
Great vid!
I realize that it doesn't fit perfectly with what you're going for here as far as all terraine and super strong lock, but if you're on a budget the Rat 1 rides on teflon washers over bronze washers. Like I said, I get the whole liner lock isn't the strongest, but the AUS8 version is rust resistant, and I use mine with gloves all the time. It's one of my all time favorite beater knives. Not overly expensive so if I loose it or break it, not the end of the world. And considering it's a liner lock, it's pretty rugged.
The only knife that I have ever had to tear apart, in order to clean the pivot, is my PM2. The bearing knives get run water. I don't want to have to tear my knife apart, while wearing gloves.
What the heck is the name of the $52 knife with interchangeable blades? And where do I get it?
Agreed, rewatched cause I thought I missed the name but it wasn't said haha
Sweet video! Been a prepper for years.
Thoughts for sure you’d have some Off-Grid knives on here
That's why I like using skiff bearings. IMO cuz there phosfuras bronze fully caged ceramic bearings. Not like the usual brass ceramic half caged bearings where one side of the bearings is open and easier for sand, gunk debris ect.. to get all up in the bearing balls lol.., also since they are fully caged it seems to me after putting them in pretty much every decent knife I have that they lock up the knife great and just make knife feel solid feeling premium if budget knife and better if premium knife.washers can scratch up tang pivot area if not cleaned out and I don't think alot of people are comfortable taking apart there knives so they end up cutting the knifes life span in half cuz that blade with grind out and tough to get blade deployed. 🤙💯🔥
Come on neeves, give the spyderco canis some respect. I'd personally choose the canis over the kapara, plus it looks better lol. I'd also add the spyderco military 2 with the compression lock to this list.
As long as the knife opens back up and locks and stays lock nothing else should matter.
What! Blade shape doesn't matter, ergonomic doesn't matter, corrosion resistance doesn't matter, quality steel doesn't matter? If that's the case just carry a 5$ mtech
Cold steel only
What ceramic Washers or bearing which ever ones smoothest do I get for the Qsp penguin d2! And the hogue deka Gen 2! And cjrb pyrite! thx u Jared
we need the ultimate construction knife please
Really kick ass list with some good information about the washer vs bearing debate. They all have a benefit and the knife list here is top notch!
Can a knife with bearings be replaced with washers?
some of them. search for skiffbearings. for example I replaced the bearings of my mcnees 3.5 with washer
Great list, and amazing knives. Just surprised the demko wasn't on the list somewhere
all terrain lowercase comment
I think telling people that hinderers are almost impossible to get is in true. If you really want a hinderer you just need to do a little “work” to get one. Such as first find out who sells them, then periodically hop onto those sites and just look and see they can drop randomly. Second hinderer has been dropping a lot on their own site and have a save your cart feature to where you don’t need to be a keyboard warrior to check out fast the cart saves for 10 minutes till you pay. Sign up for news letters those don’t help a lot but follow them on instagram and on Facebook.
You didn’t use gloves for one knife and you said it’s easy to use with gloves ….
Yeah I probably forgot to put the clip in but obviously I went through them all with gloves to make what was or wasn't decent
