  • Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent is the 10th sultan of the Ottoman empire, who inherited the throne after the death of Sultan Selim Yavuz. The new young Sultan was very different from his predecessor, who was known for his uncompromising, ruthless and cruelty.
Fear reigned in the palace under the former sultan. But under Suleyman everything changed in the opposite direction. Poets and musicians appeared in Topkapi.
Against the backdrop of the formidable Selim, Suleyman seemed very peaceful. One of the ambassadors even wrote: “This is a meek lamb who inherited the kingdom of a formidable lion.”
Suleyman began his reign by freeing hundreds of Egyptian captives, whom Selim Yavuz chained and kept in prison.
In the TV series "The Magnificent Century" Sultan Suleyman was shown to us as a fair and worthy ruler who had amazing restraint and integrity.
But what was he really like, why did he use makeup, and what did he hide in his chest, which he took with him to the grave? Watch and listen to this video until the end, and you will find out the answers to all these questions.

Fascinating - especially about the fatwas going to the grave . Sulieman began his reign with a desire to be just and clearly went to the next life in the hope of being justfified by this. God is gracious and will judge us according to our light. I hope and pray He saw Sulieman's desire for justice and his sensitive conscience with grace. For Sulieman was undoubtedly a great ruler and a great man

It's hard to believe that (judging from the pictures, he wasn't actually very goodlooking. Because unlike other Monarchs, who married princesses, the Sultans only ever bred with exquisitely beautiful women from their Harem. Or at least I would assume, that the slaves bought for or gifted to the Harem, were surely above average in looks.
So after a couple generations, that should have been a really attractive family.
