    Ad Matutinum [Matins]
    Responsorium
Credo quod Redemptor meus vivit, [I believe that my Redeemer liveth,]
et in novissimo die de terra surrectus sum, [and that in the last day I shall rise from the earth,]
Et in carne mea videbo Deum Salvatorem meum. [And in my flesh shall I see God my Saviour.]
Vivit, quem visurus sum ego ipse, et non alius; [Whom I myself shall see, and not another,]
et oculi mei conspecturi sunt. [and mine eyes shall behold.]
    3:05 Lectio II
Taedet animam meam vitae meae, [My soul is weary of my life,]
dimittam adversum me eloquium meum, loquar [in I will let go my speech against myself, I will speak]
amaritudine animae meae. Dicam Deo: Noli me [in the bitterness of my soul. I will say to God;]
condemnare: indica mihi, cur me ita judices. Numquid [tell me why Thou judgest me so. Doth it seem]
bonum tibi videtur, si calumnieris me, et opprimas [me, good to Thee that Thou shouldst calumniate me, and oppress me,]
opus manuum tuarum, et consilium impiorum adjuves? [the work of Thy own hands, and help the counsel of the wicked?]
Numquid oculi carnei tibi sunt; aut, sicut videt homo, [Hast Thou eyes of flesh: or, shall Thou see as man seeth?]
et tu videbis? Numquid sicut dies hominis dies tuae, [Are Thy days as the days of man,]
et anni tui sicut humana sunt tempora, ut quaeras [and are Thy years as the times of men, that Thou shouldst inquire]
iniquitatem meam, et peccatum meum scruteris? [after my iniquity, and search after my sin?]
Et scias, quia nihil impium fecerim, cum sit nemo, [And shouldst know that I have done no wicked thing, whereas]
qui de manu tua possit eruere. [there is no man that can deliver out of Thy hand.]
    [JOB 10: 1-2]
In Laudibus [The Office of Lauds]
    6:28 Antiphona
Ego sum resurrectio et vita: qui credit in me, [I am the Resurrection and the Life; he that believeth]
etiam si mortuus fuerit, vivet; et omnis, qui vivit in Me, [even though he were dead, shall live; and whoever liveth]
et credit in me, non morietur in aeternum. [and believeth in Me shall never die.]
Canticum Zachariae [The Canticle of Zachary]
Benedictus Dominus, Deus Israel, quia visitavit, [Blessed be the Lord God of Israel: for He hath visited]
    et fecit redemptionem plebis suae: [and wrought redemption for His people;
Et erexit cornu salutis nobis: [And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us:]
in domo David, pueri sui. [in the house of His servant David.]
Sicut locutus est per os sanctorum, [As He spake through the mouth of His holy Prophets:]
qui a saeculo sunt, prophetarum eius: [which have been from everlasting.]
Salutem ex inimicis nostris, [Salvation from our enemies:]
et de manu omnium, qui oderunt nos: [and from the hand of all that hate us;]
Ad faciendam misericordiam cum patribus nostris: [To show mercy towards our forefathers:]
et memorari testamenti sui sancti. [and to remember His holy covenant.]
Iusiurandum, quod iuravit ad Abraham, patrem nostrum, [The oath which He swore unto our forefather Abraham:]
daturum se nobis: Ut sine timore, de manu inimicorum [that He would grant unto us. That being delivered from the hand]
nostrorum liberati, serviamus illi, [of our enemies: we might serve Him without fear,]
In sanctitate et iustitia coram ipso, omnibus diebus nostris. [In holiness and justice before Him: all our days,]
Et tu, puer, Propheta Altissimi vocaberis: [And thou, child, shall be called a Prophet of the Highest;]
praeibis enim ante faciem Domini parare vias eius: [for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways.]
Ad dandam scientiam salutis plebi eius: [To give knowledge of salvation unto His people:]
in remissionem peccatorum eorum: [for the forgiveness of their sins.]
Per viscera misericordiae Dei nostri: [Through the merciful heart of our God:
in quibus visitavit nos oriens ex alto: [whereby He hath visited us as the Dayspring from on high;]
Illuminare his, qui in tenebris et in umbra mortis sedent: [To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of]
ad dirigendos pedes nostros in viam pacis. [death: and to guide our feet into the way of peace.]
Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine. [Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.]
Et lux perpetua luceat eis. [And let light perpetual shine upon them.]
Requiescant in pace. Amen. [May they rest in peace. Amen.]

Thanks for uploading of this magnificent recording! How many times I heard this CD when I was young.!! The Westminster Cathedral Choir under David Hill left behind so many wonderful CDs. The best Requiem in the occidental music history for me. Much closer to the heaven than that of Mozart or Verdi!

I agree. When I was just 19 and, by the first time, listen to the of this masterpiece it was like an ecstasy for me. Since then no other record has the same quality of this one for me.

This recording of 1987 was one of my first CDs. It is the best recording of that masterpiece by far. (I heard them all) Listening to this recording makes you feel attending the actual service for Dowager Empress Maria. Slow tempi, perfect sung psalm in the Matins (with big cathedral feeling). Well, and Versa est luctum is my favorite! I always wanted to sing the whole thing myself since these times. I will do it for the first time in 2022. I’m shivering.... ;)

The finest recording ever made of this Spanish masterpiece. It dates from 1987 on the Hyperion Records Limited label (digital). I was broadcasting this complete mass recording on the air in California during the early 1990's. My favorite excerpt: 11:42 "Taedet animam meam vitea meae"

I absolutely love this channel. Not only do you provide such beautiful sacred music, but you also provide the Latin and English in full. Thanks so much for your hard work.
(On the note of the Latin, by the way, are you translating it yourself or using a translation that’s readily available? I ask only because I’ve noticed the translations sometimes miss phrases and crossover lines. For example, under Lectio II: “Nolī mē condemnāre” means “Be unwilling for me to be condemned”, or “Do not let sentence be passed on me” (etc.) - but this is missing in the translated parentheses.
Forgive me if you know this already. I much appreciate your work.

I am using the translation of the CD brochure. I don't know Latin (although Portuguese is a neo-Latin language, the similarity is not so great that it allows me to understand anything in Latin). By the way, I don't know English either ... Before I took the trouble to check if each translated line corresponded perfectly to the original text, but it was very laborious, especially considering the ignorance of the two languages.

@@pedrohenriqueprata You don’t know English either..?! That’s very impressive; you can’t tell. :)
As I say, as for the Latin, it’s no big deal - if I see any other bits without a translation in the future, I’ll leave a comment just in case it’s helpful. I’m just massively grateful for your channel! Thanks again for the hard work.
