      We’ll have to agree to disagree but thanks for sharing your perspective.
      Edit: I would add that you illustrated to perfection the appropriateness of response. At the time of that recording I had 150 books at CGC. Using 8 mins of time this works out to 1,200 mins or 20 hours. To this point, I have more important competing priorities like moving across country, numerous house repair projects, a full time job, a growing TH-cam channel and two children under the age of 7.
      Again, I thank you for watching and commenting.

    I sent a comic book to CCS, I didn't even know they send it to CGC for grading automatically after pressing! What a wonderful surprise. The CCS price is all inclusive also and includes the new CGC slab.

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      CCS doesn’t press without having the book graded. So a submission to CCS always results in grading. You will be charged twice. Once from CCS for clean/press and once from CGC for grading and encapsulation.

    I've gotten some feedbacks from others on youtube stating CGC might not spend as much time to press & clean a book as independent 3rd party pressers would. In other word, CGC would rush their pressing and would do a half done job due to the large amount of books they'd receive. Can you please confirm if that's a true statement?

    Excellent video and definitely things to consider. When using CCS for the first time using the standard tier, they held my books in the queue for the unholy turn time, but I was happy for the grades: one 7.5, three 7's, two 6.5's, a 5.5. two 4.5's and a 4. Not bad for books dating from 1965-1971. 6 of the books exceeded my expected grade, one was a match and 3 were lower. I reckon that's not bad for my first time.

    My experience with CCS has been good. They pressed and cleaned 2 comics for me recently: an 8.0 bumped to a 9.0 and a 9.0 bumped to a 9.8 so I was very happy. If they would increase their efficiency (turn around time) without reducing quality of clean and press it would be great though. We live in an impatient "I want it now" world and so the wait game can be tough sometimes. In 1900 it took up to 10 years to build a home, but man what quality work they did. May be just showing my old age here. :)

    Thanks for the info & your opinion. This is a pretty timely topic as I have been trying to decide on sending some books to a very well regarded presser. I like your thinking on many of your points. Mainly the one stop shop and decreasing the number of shipments that could cause damage. Do you use the quick press or do the full press with CCS (or does it depend on the book)? Great content!

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends upon the book. Books that have lots of defects may benefit from a full press. A modern book with slight defects may only need a quick press. I have another video coming out this week that touches on this same topic. I'm telling a story here. :-)

    It takes them over a year to get to press your books. Honestly, they did a poor job on mine. I had already sent several shipments to them to press and grade. The ones I cleaned and pressed came back at higher grades. I sent them books I thought were at least a 9.4 -- some books I got back were 8.5 and 9.0/9.2. Bottom line: Do it yourself, don't have CCS do it; it's wasted money!

    I sent 3 books into CGC to get graded in August 13 and they were damaged in delivery to them, which I was informed that they received them with a corner crunch on the upper right hand side of my three books and wondered how well are they considering one was on a card stock cover and a black and white "sketch cover" ? I then told a CGC rep to have them pressed . Now im receiving a update of yesterday November 16th they are going to Encapsulation/Imaging. So how much further do I have to wait and why couldn't I have been provided a photo(s) of the damage to help me decide to continue or not to make me figure uut to press or not to fix my submission?
    Thanks

    While I do agree with all your stated reasons for using CCS pressing service there are two reasons that I do not use them often.
    1. You have no insight in the status of your CCS pressing order. Once the book gets sent over to the CCS side of the house, you have no idea what stage of the pressing service you order is undergoing.
    2. Current CCS pressing services is running around 100+ days according to a customer service representative I spoke to about one of my pressing orders. So I am thinking 💭 okay it has been over 100 days already. Then she tells me no it has not been 100 BUSINESS DAYS. Now once she says this to me, it makes perfect sense that it would be business days and not days like I was thinking but now I realize that means 5 months for just the pressing service. That does not include the additional weeks for the actual grading of the book once it comes back from CCS to CCG.
    That is a long time to wait to say the least.
    In my case this was for an artist cover that was commissioned and I want the best possible grade, so it was worth the pressing charges to make sure I have the best possible chance at a CGC SS 9.8 grade.
    Just some thoughts to add to the conversation.
    Great video as always Reggie.

    • @RegieCollects

      Facts. The good news is that the turn around time and business days, etc are actually on the website so people do indeed have some insight going in.

  • @scandell
    @scandell 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Regarding Point 1: Use a third party presser that ships directly to CGC.

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s an option. The downside in some cases is that they will use there own account which means that you don’t get the CGC discount nor do you have visibility into the status of the books at CGC. This requires you to ping the presser to get status updates. With that said, there are some pressers that will use your account so it’s important to determine that upfront.

  • @lily.rose.pittie
    @lily.rose.pittie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video and thanks for the information. This will be very helpful. One item for consideration is that some 3rd party companies that press/dry clean comics will also submit them to CGC at a discount. Depending on the value of the comic this can offset some of the cost of the pressing and dry cleaning. I haven't had any personal experience but will be submitting several comics, some direct and some through a 3rd party. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again, I try not to miss any of these videos. Really gets me back into the mindset of a true collector.

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically they are only giving you part of the discount that CGC actually gives you directly. You also miss out on the annual $150 grading credit by having your own account. And, by not having you own account you don’t know where your book is in the process without having to contact the 3rd party to ask.

    Last year I sent in my hulk 181, which was slabbed at a CGC 5.5 for pressing as the book looked like it had some obvious pressable defects. It came back a 7.0 which is quite a nice bump for that book!
    I've had a couple of times I've sent in (already slabbed) books for CGC signing and included pressing, the grade stayed the same and, in one case, went down from a 9.6 to a 9.4. So the grade won't always improve, but I've had an overall positive experience with CCS pressing.

Also the whites on the book could have been cleaned a lot better. I know they have extreme volume and CGC will not be able to put the time and care an owner could dedicate on their own book. I focused on the Hulk 181 on two of my uploads. I sent the book to CGC twice. First for grading, cleaning and pressing. This was my first CGC submission. Came back 7.5 purple label. Second time was for restoration removal, C1 color touch, CGC declined to work on the book. 😔 Still deciding what my next move is. Just purchased a digital microscope which can detect color touch. @Regie Collects Comics I know this is an older video, but I had a question you might know the answer to. If CGC has liability insurance, why does a waiver have to be signed for them to crack open a slab? Maybe that isn't covered because of the potential book damage if done incorrectly? I am not sure if a waiver is included with online submissions for slab cracking, but in person at conventions it is. Thanks for all you do Regie!

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wavier is a relatively new thing. And, yes, it’s part of the online submission but admittedly I have not fully read it because I’m submitting raw books.
      My guess is that the waiver is required because you are holding them harmless in the event that a book is damaged during cracking. Put another way, the insurance isn’t being used, premiums stay low because that risk is taken off the table.

      Are they perfect? Heck no. No one is.
      My one experience with a highly recommended local presser resulted in a damaged batch of books that were overpressed and stapes were popped.

      Does CCS do a good job? See my first comment. Could they do better? Who can’t. Can turn around times be better? Absolutely. Is there such a thing as fast pressing and cleaning? Maybe but all collectibles services are getting hammered. Is it easy to send a bundle of books to one place for pressing, cleaning and grading? Absolutely. Have I used a third party pressers outside of CCS? Yes, the books were damaged by the postman then the presser over pressed and popped a staple.

    Lil by lil you start catching on to who’s giving real reviews and who’s looking to be sponsored… or who already is… and this video is clearly spoken like a true Cgc sponsored social media person lol. Your awesome in most vids but this is definitely a disagree video. I’m not a thumbs down guy tho screw those people lol. Experience? There’s tons of grader notes online stating basic pressable defects AFTER ccs pressed… I also love the TH-cam video where ccs destroyed a collectors highest graded Shazam 1 on the census I believe it was and all they wanted to offer was store credit for the collector to have Ccs potentially ruin more books lol… also time is a big factor to us regular collectors, especially those trying to flip to try n fund the hobby. We can’t wait 3 extra months on top of Cgc’s 4 months to get a book back…. But what is not stated in this list (of course) is a lot of us collectors believe! Cgc favors us using ccs so you’ll end up getting a bit of a grade bump just to show us that they are not that worthless but….
    Find a local presser or invest in your own ladies and gents it’s definitly worth it in the long run

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for taking the time to comment and watch this video. I appreciate both.
      I think it’s important to clarify a few things. First, I am not sponsored by CGC. I have never taken money from CGC. Hard stop. To imply that I do is factually I correct. This video was created to tell people why I use CCS because I get the question all the time. I also created this video because of the series that I created telling people how to press their own books and folks wanted to know what I am doing now. I use ccs because I don’t have time to press books myself.
      You are spot on about turn around time but this video is 5 reasons I use CCS. Not 5 reason to not use ccs. Next, good pressers out there in many cases have raised rates and/or stopped taking submissions because they are in demand and have long turn around times. Have I used an external presser? Yes. And, they damaged my comics and offered zero in return. This is something that has been mentioned in other videos. Books can always be damaged during the pressing process. Heck, I’ve messed up on some of my own. 😝😂 And, clearly I paid for that.
      As I’ve mentioned in other videos there is something called paper memory and reversion. This means that a comic can actually revert to its previous state after being pressed. Should this happen with professional grading? Nope. If this happened with a CCS pressed book they should make it right. Hard stop.
      It’s okay that you disagree with me. I’m cool with that but please don’t question my morals saying that I was paid to do something when I was not.
