I have no idea why my fresh installs don't already have this file where it should be... but I am just dropping you a line to say that, even years later, this is still accurate and you are a life saver!
I haven't even started and I already have issues 😂 Thank you for making the video! I was getting frustrated trying to fix it and with your video I was all set right away!
Thank you so much for this, used default apps in windows itself for association and it didn't work in epic games launcher. But this fixed it all up thank you very much
@@TorQueMoD The Epic Games folder isn’t in any of my Program Files (x86) folders, it’s in my Program Files folder. But after clicking through the folders in the Epic Games folder I can’t find that unrealversionselector.eve in the win64 folder. I don’t know why this won’t work for me and no one else seems to be having this issue from what I see. How do I fix this?
@@conservativeperspective366 I really wish I could help. This issue ceased to be a problem for me in the later versions of the engine. Have you tried to launch the Epic Launcher since installing? Not sure what your exact situation is, but I just recently re-installed Windows and found that the Launcher didn't see any of my projects, but after pointing the launcher to my documents folder in the settings, I just closed it and re-opened and then it gave me a pop up asking if I want to re-associate the project files.
@@TorQueMoD I uninstalled epic games and ue4 a few weeks back. I just tried installing it again today and all of the sudden I’m having this issue that I’ve never had before. Do you think me reinstalling it caused a problem?
@@conservativeperspective366 Yeah, that's what typically causes the issue. Make sure in the settings, it's pointing to the same location for your project files. Usually, this is your documents folder. Then try closing and exiting and re-launching. See if it gives you the pop up.
@@TorQueMoD Hello, I found a solution how to generate the files even when the option dosent appearm all you have to do is open command promt ( CMD ) and type in "C:/Program Files/Epic Games/UE_4.27/Engine/Binaries/DotNET/UnrealBuildTool.exe" -projectFiles -project= (Project location with Uproject ( example "C:/Desktop/Game.uproject")) -game -engine -2019(
Hello TorQueMod, been a while I heard from you. I am having this issue on UE4.24 and this does not seem to work for me. I do have the association icons as you shown and also have the three options as well and still receive the error message "Couldn't set association for project. Check the file is writable." Any idea how to solve this one?
@@TorQueMoD lol no prob, I fixed it by uninstalling the Engine then re-installing it again. After that, I simply created a new project using the same exact name, copied the main launch file and replaced the old one in my main project to get it to work.
You tried uninstalling and re-installing the Epic Launcher? Also, make sure you have all of the MSV Redistributables installed... forums.unrealengine.com/unreal-engine/feedback-for-epic/71386-can-t-download-unreal-engine-4
I wish I had an answer. If these steps don't fix the problem, I'd say make sure that you've got all of the MSVC Redistributables installed, Update windows to the latest version and try an uninstall and re-install of UE.
hmmm... The only thing I can think of is that this might not work in the latest version of the engine? Double-check to make sure you copied the correct exe file too.
Sorry, I'm running windows 10 on all my systems. Don't know why it wouldn't work for you. Another thing you could try is exit out of the Epic Launcher, right click on a uproject file and choose open with. Then immediately close that window and launch the Epic Launcher... I did this with my friend's system the other day and the launcher automatically popped up and said that files needed to be re-associated. Again it was on a windows 10 system but it's worth a shot.
Nope. Not only would it be illegal, it would most likely be impossible due to lack of source code and engine customization on the developer's part. The original developer would take several months to port to PC and they're the ones who made the game.
Hi! I just saw your video and did exactly what you did, which worked perfectly! With Fortnite, it gives the same error. However, when I paste the .exe into fortnite's binaries it says it cant find an unreal engine. Is there any fix for this? the error is: Can't open FortniteGame.uproject. I have tried everything, from reinstalling windows and fortnite to switching to another pc. Fortnite always works on the C drive, but on my D drive it gives this error no matter what i do.
I can't really take credit. I read a bunch of answer hub posts and a lot of them were detailing several different methods, some which worked and some didn't. I filtered out what didn't work and then put together this video as I wanted to spread the correct solution.

Possibly you've installed to a directory that you don't have administrator privilege for?
