No vocalist in this world has the balls to start a concert with a song like Collision, it can screw your vocal chords for the rest of the concert. Not Mike Patton, hats off... he has amazing vocal capabilities. Absolute ownage from start to finish.

in case anybody gives a fuck at all: back in around 1996?? my brother used to work at a crazy assed reptile store when we were in a band together when he lived with me in st louis. they had some crazy and rare reptiles there too from red tail and green tree boas to ball pythons, african rock pythons, fat assed burmese and anaconda pythons, and a 22' 140 lb reticulated python (they are skinnier but longer than burmese but more snap happy, if it had been burmese probably 350lbs) cayman lizards, gekkos, chamelions, nile and savanna monitors, some electric blue frogs, and illegal cobra and western diamondback (had to get rid of those because snakes WILL find a way out of their cage, eventually) ANYWAY.... there was a dude that worked there that said he grew up with some of these guys (knew mike bordin best i think) near san francisco or wherever, and said if we went to an upcoming show they were playing in Louisville KY, where i was from, that we could for sure get to meet the guys. i was skeptical, but anyway we went and it was true we went very early so we could hang out, got to meet all of them but got to hang out with mostly mike bordin and his drum tech all day before the show. a crazy thing i learned is that mike bordin plays with the thickest sticks (think almost drum corps sticks) they can find, and plays them turned around tips in palm, and his tech grinds and shreds deep ripped up spiral grooves into the shaft of the sticks with a sharp assed hook tool that he made just for that for better grip. kinda cool huh? said theyd tried grip tape and everything but that worked best. ANYWAY, not only did we get to hang out with them before the show but we got to watch the show from ON THE STAGE in the back just off to Bordin's left. it was fucking so much fun. but hell i loved this band back then, still do. AFTER the show, went with them to their hotel room(s) but gave a ride there to Bordin and stopped at taco bell drive thru, scored mike (bordin), some killer bud, (im not sure but i dont think patton gets high).( the other guys smoked i thik but dont quote me) all of them were cool, bottom was funny, but we didnt really impress mike patton too much i think, HAHA! oh well. thats cool, i understood i didnt give a fuck. how lame is a fan blowing kisses on yer balls anyway right? so we got to hang out for a couple of hours talking and just cutting up. nice regular guys of course. nonpretentious and yeah then we sucked all their dicks and then left, (just kidding HAHA but the story is all true)

So surreal sitting with Mike Patton and boys..We drove around as Mike Patton and all wanted to see what a suburb called Innaloo would look like after seeing the sign on a Highway. Then again I was in Melbourne in 93 for work, my new job directly from meeting them in Perth, Australia, Jim Martin and I kept in touch so he called me down to go catch up with them there too on the Angel Dust tour. It was some of the best days of my life..and I'd travelled all around and met many bands, from Slash to Duff Mckagan, Kurt Cobain, the best. He's a solid player for sure. But he also strikes me as someone who won't rattle any cages and basically do what's ask of him. Opposed to Jim Martin who was a more forthright, stubborn, maybe contrary, character. Certainly, the mix of strong personalities with Jim in the band led to more conflict and fights. But it also led to the band's best music. I like KFAD and AOTY, but they always struck me as fairly standard, albeit very good, alternative rock albums. But they severely lack the character and adventure of IY, TRT and AD.

I don't think it's fair to blame faith no more for the nu metal movement, in the same way you can't blame Nirvana for all the really bad grunge music that followed. I know the guys in the band aren't flattered by that comparison.

Mike Patton no longer Has any peers.
    He’s a one- off.
A vocal freak of nature, paired with intelligent and compelling poetry.
He can take his voice anywhere
The same way only Elvis could do.
Backing it up by singing in a multitude of genre, and bi-lingual (Elvis wasn’t)
And Patton hasn’t pissed it away, he’s been too busy getting better.
Elvis in his latter days tho, bad off as he was health wise he never lost his ability to sing, performing for his entourage in private shows even on the road, (Elvis had trouble sleeping, big time, due to pharmaceuticals)
And these guys around him saw and heard Elvis sing so well that they swore on specific times that was the best and most emotional singing they’d ever witnessed.
    Anyway-
Thank you Mike for being smart, and more and more of Faith No More music bro.!

Saw them live on this tour in Philadelphia. So glad I saw that show. Seeing this video now is magical. They were in top form in 97 after the 90s music explosion had waned and it seemed like no one else had any more good ideas. Faith No More captured the end of an era, while Album of the Year seemed to underscore the tragedies and losses of the dying music industry.
