    HI Shivani...
    I cannot tell you how relatable this story is for me.
    I have had the same exact experience so many times with so many agencies in Mumbai that its not even funny...
    I actually once had a booker ask my friend " why do you need the money? is there some emergency"!!! (in my mind I was like.. err mmm why do does anyone need money they have worked for WOMAN)!!!
    It is beyond frustrating to deal with these people but I am so proud of you for dealing with them head-on...
    Kudos to you :)

    Man, I’m not a model but a freelance editor and this is so relatable. There’s a huge issue in this country with not respecting artists or creative professionals. It’s almost like we don’t have bills to pay and anything “creative” is easy to do. I really hope there’s a mindset change sometime soon especially with regards to payments. More power to you for putting out the truth :)

You’re as raw as a human being can be and that’s the reason I love you! No pretences and no show of a life that’s perfect because truly nothing is perfect. More power to you Shivani. You did the right thing by calling out TFM and their management. Not paying for work done as per contract is unethical, unprofessional and illegal. Way too many people cheat others without any guilt or remorse. People need to speak up. Glad to know your issue got resolved albeit after going through all that. Hope others in a similar situation will derive courage from your experience. Cheers!

    I did something similar about 3 years ago. I'm a dietitian, and I made the mistake of working with "celebrity Dietitian" Shubi Hussain who owns a chain of clinics called Health Sanctuary. She refused to pay me either. I created such a scene, recorded videos and followed up for really long to finally get my rightful payment. Your narration of your story reminded me of how I was narrating my experience to my family and friends!
    People need to speak up and stand up for what's right! 🔥🔥💯

    Once again on the episode of: why the hell is this in my recommendation.
    But, I ended up listening till the end. More power to you, Shivani. I run a small business in a different niche, and I get such stories from my new employees who tell me that their previous employer denied them their dues. It's so disheartening and sad to imagine what a person would have to go through if they are denied the money that they worked their ass off for. I mean how can just someone not pay you for what you've delivered already. Happy for you that it all worked out in the end. Cheers! 🎉

  • @macwiniandsouza
    @macwiniandsouza 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I have worked as a casting director in agencies in the past and it was hell. Payments never come. Either the client is playing around or it's the agency. Being an actor/ model and casting director most of your energy is spent on getting the payments out and over time you start to develop a hatred for your job which was once what you loved doing. You know that certain things aren't right and you are forced to play around like you are doing or being done a favor because if you don't do it, you might not get work anymore. I really can't count the amount of money that I still have to get paid over the years.
    Please models, either have a contract or have the payment written on message. 3 to 4 months should be the max time for commercials. There are amazing and talented people in the industry but there is a big number that will go down any lane to make more money. Do your job and stick to your ethics, rest should be fine. If you can't stand up and are very vulnerable like I was, you are in for a very bumpy ride.

  • @SuperWowstyle
    @SuperWowstyle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +105

    Good for you, for standing up. The agency and sometimes even the brands situation in this industry is so messed up. People need to be vocal about this as much as possible.
    I face this at least 2-3 times every year myself, as an influencer. (Never worked with this particular agency, but speaking of others).
    I have been called derogatory stuff, massive insults thrown my way for asking for payments due by agencies. Sometimes even after 10-12 months of reminding, no response. Finally they stop taking your calls entirely
    Some agencies treat artistes, influencers with zero respect and assume that they will stop bothering after a few threats. (Most people do give up).

    I have been working as a blogger since almost a decade now and I can so relate to your story. This literally happens all the time! I work with different influencer management agencies and according to their clauses, the payments get cleared after 90 days from the date of the campaigns.
    Sometimes, the amount is as small as INR 5,000 so it feels odd to bother someone again & again for a payment as small as that. And it also gets really difficult to keep track of the payments.
    For 9 out of 10 projects, the payments are delayed. You have to follow up with the agencies again and again, and they always make stupid excuses. This wastes so much of your time & energy! More than half of the times, their representatives wouldn’t pick up your calls, respond to your messages or acknowledge your emails. And if they do, they make it sound like a favour.
    In my case, I don’t really mind a slight delay but I atleast expect the agency reps to keep me updated and give me a solid deadline as to when the payments will be cleared.
    Many a times, I have had my lawyer send out legal notices to these agencies. Only then have they cleared my payments. This wastes so much of your time and energy! And you also have to bare your lawyer’s fee.
    I’m talking about big companies like Times Of India, who have failed to make my payments for more than a year before I finally had a legal notice sent out.
    And the worst part, as you said, is that your relationship with the agency goes down the drain, and you don’t get any further projects from them. Because apparently, you are the ‘trouble maker’ for them. And they can afford to do that, because they have A LOT of options. But you don’t.
    Kudos to you for being so brave and not backing out! Ofcourse, you have worked hard and it’s your hard-earned, well-deserved money, but after a while it’s not about money anymore. It’s about giving it back to them, and letting them know that it’s I’m not okay to do this, and that they can’t just run away with someone’s money, and out their hard work down the drain.

      Well it's the other way around as well. Kangana isn't any less. She herself harasses people on social media when they do not have the same opinion as hers. What she's doing right now is absolutely wrong and no one deserves to be called names for having depression, drug issues or whatever.

    • @gonegirl3954
      @gonegirl3954 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ps ps well what are we on about here, again? cuz whatever you're saying about Deepika seems highly personal. Everyone has their own shit and we're no one to judge them. I meant to say that kangana is only taking revenge off of personal grudges she has on people, she's got nothing to do with anything else.

    It's astounding how rampant and accepted this is. I don't even model. As an emcee and content creator same stuff happens. Imagine instead of focusing on getting more work and doing good work we waste time following up on these payments and literally having to beg for our own hard earned money 🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @ZeishahAmlani
      @ZeishahAmlani 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gosh I'm commenting this at the end of the video - yes!!! You have to be so careful to not be pushy and "spoil relations" and I'm also very very particular and follow up incessantly constantly and have actually blocked people and not worked with them if they defaulted my payment. You know you speak of 5lakhs - I've gone through this and done it for an amount as small as even 3000₹ but it's not a small amount, it's what I worked hard for. And it's about the ethics of it all as well. I can't allow someone to take advantage of me and my work that way. Thankyou for being so brave to get your rightful money and also sharing this so honestly out here.

    This really sucks! I am not surprised at all. My experience has been that people in India do not understand how to keep promises and must think that those not born in India are idiots. Not the same experience, but I bought pretty expensive indian clothes from a "luxury" ig boutique. She sent absolutely no message during covid lockdowns and even shut down her website. If you tried emailing her, the email bounced and I was like what?? I paid almost $1000, am I getting my outfits whenever these lockdowns are over? Is she giving a refund what is going on? Finally get in touch with her, she keeps making rude comments about how "large" I am. I mean she knew my measurements when she accepted the order and even charged me extra...it was back and forth via email. When the outfits finally arrive they smell horrendous. They smelled like they were wet and quickly packaged and sent over to the us. I sent a calm email asking her what to do and she's like oh it's raining in india, just air dry for 2 hours with a really fast fan and im like 😏It's been over 24 hours, please just give me a return shipping label and refund my money. She went off. She kept calling me really horrible names, body shaming me, calling me ridiculous for asking for an update during covid, i should have known the status of her warehouse, karma would get me etc etc. I went to paypal and was like hey can you help, they sided with me but said i would have to pay return shipping. I'm like whatever, fine, I'll do it. I called dhl and they said it would cost me 100s so ask the seller to help. This woman played with me every day for a week claiming she didn't know what a shipping label is or a return label, she doesn't do this etc, funny thing is, she has clear instructions on how to initiate a return on her site. She said she didn't want to do it because my clothes are so large she has no need for them. It has been such a horrible experience, I can't believe so many bloggers and youtubers even promote her shop. I have never been so mistreated. Definitely not wearing those outfits for my wedding anymore and I'm sticking with US boutiques

      btw i told her that i would send her the money to generate the shipping label, just needed her to create one on her end.

    To be honest I’ve seen people in India itself who’re in their comfort zones and they do not even try this hard or struggle this hard but seeing you having a leisure life in US and then going to Mumbai and experiencing these things is a really big inspiration 🙌🏻

    Omg girl, you are so brave wow!!! Amazing job being so brave. I was so worried for you listening to this story, legit terrified. I'm glad you got through it, but people need to really be more honest in business. And I just can't trust these ppl in India, way too corrupt. I would never want to get in this type of work due to this very reason, people are liars and corrupt af. You're a ray of light through all of that though!
    Take care!!! Great role model for all girls! I'm glad you're safe!

    Hi Shivani, it takes balls to be a whistleblower. Thank you for sharing your story. I'm in a very different industry, but the manner in which an institution handles dissent or whistleblowers is very telling. Laughing off potential threats is the way to go. Ive found that the way to win is to not regard norms, so your whistleblower approach has shock value.
    And the next thing is to plan and prepare for consequences, go big and go massive on the first attack strategy and to keep making moves when they can't keep up. Chances are they have not had much practice thinking on their feet so counterintuitively they tend to be quite taken aback..

    I feel like you’ve talked a LOT. And boy ! Am I glad you did. I hung onto every single syllable like my life depended on it. I’m glad you got it off your chest. And I’m glad this video will be available for aspirants who aren’t sure if their entire career is going to go up in flames if they ask for the money they’ve earned and is rightfully theirs !
    And threatening to send goons after a woman you know isn’t on her homeground, who you know isn’t from the “industry”, who you know is “nice” as this Rishu lady clearly alluded she knows about you - is just so infuriating in the current Indian climate. I’m so grateful that you called the bluff, even though you had to be extra careful with location tags (sigh, the world we live in). More power to you, and kudos to mommy Bafna for not just being a badass but raising a daughter who has a spine of steel ♥️so much love coming your way !

    Heyy after watching all this I remembered once I paid for my portfolios 3 times I mean in 3 agencies, nd you know what it's been 3 years nd still I'm not having my portfolios. I was 14 years old back then and I couldn't be like always just go and get back my money or portfolios because that place was too far from my home they always made an excuse. I got to know too much bout' agencies and now, I'm working by my self with the help of social media. I'm really glad that I found your channel...! ❤️ Thank you so much for sharing your experience you're such a brave woman shivani I genuinely appreciate your hard work 💕.

    Woahh! Great Shiavni, at the end it feels like kind of proud moment. We genuinely understand that it obviously matters when you are not being rewarded for something you have been working hard & gave your all. And I honestly appreciate your this stand, this is not going to help only the one working in such industries, but it will surely empower other, especially girls to raise their voice bravely if something wrong goes with them. That is what is needed is to raise your voice and this will surely lead to remove such all the loopholes from the system.
    Again, very proud for your firm stand and also again posting it here too. Proud n very happy for you. God Bless you, keep shining :)
    PS : You hold our breath until last, as you got your payment just before leaving India!! XD
