As someone who has zero knowledge about Linux other than "that penguin" and about commands and terminals I've been searching everywhere for a basic explanation/tutorial on installing certain Linux apps on my Pixelbook. Thanks to you I was finally able to install Gimp on my Chromebook. Please consider uploading basic tutorials on how to use the Linux terminal since it seems to be way more difficult than I thought to find this information specific to Chromebooks.

Dude this is freaking awsome. I was able to install a video editor (VSDC free video editor) on my chromebook and it works great. Also a tip to others specifically pixelbook users, you can use steam too which i have witnessed on somebody else's chromebook. As long as it is not a high end game meaning very graphical you should be fine.
Nice job. I'm a 30+ year mac user. Sold my MBA, and bought a pixelbook; Best Buy and Amazon have a great deal - $699 ($300 off). I'd like to see libreoffice connected to Google Drive and MS OneDrive

Might need to add a Boolean field into the Chromebook Comparison page : "Supports Linux". www.xda-developers.com/chromebooks-linux-app-support/ By the way - thanks for the comparison page! it helped me out when picking a chromebook for my parents! (although I'd rather it include a yes-no for "USB-A" than "USB-C") Supporting Crostini is one of the reasons I picked the Flip C101... mom sure loves her Tux Racer!

I have never used Linux. I've never even installed Linux beta on my chromebook. I'm a little scared to play with it. Putting Firefox on my chromebook could be fun. But wouldn't that open the door to viruses being downloaded on the chromebook?
Have you tried the Java JDK and Netbeans IDE? Took some fiddling and time as the linux commands I looked up to download from repositories came up with errors, so had to install manually and use tar files etc. I agree videos on linux terminal would be good, if you haven't done so already.
Love to understand how to install Golden Cheetah software. Have used it on a windows device, but want to try to Linux/Chromebook version for the portability as I travel.
Great video, I just watched it after installing V69 stable with linux included. Have you tried any linux email clients? Email is the one area where I feel chromebooks are weak. For any email address other that gmail you have had to rely on webmail or, more recently, android apps (geared towards mobile devices) but desktop linux email apps could be the solution.
Would be interesting if you could install handbrake and rip a DVD or play a DVD or CD from a chromebook using Linux software. You would probably need a external optical drive.

Not sure I understand your question, but if you put a file in "Linux Files" on the GUI Files app, it shows up in your $HOME directory (/home/) in the Linux terminal. If you create subdirectories for $HOME then they show up under "Linux Files" in the GUI Files app. tar and gunzip work in the Linux terminal.

I have the Samsung Chromebook Pro and I am now considering selling it an returning to windows via a Surface Pro because I need a full version of Zoom Meetings for work. Can you please review how this program is running on your device? All of us CBPro owners are hoping that the Linux Apps will be available soon.. But, who really knows. Thank you!
That is very helpful feedback. Thank you! Yes I have the Zoom for Android but it is limited. The main feature that I am missing is the video panel of the other members of the meeting. I can't see them during the meetings. I will now look into the Crossover option. I really appreciate your help.
Good job! It kind of silly though, that you need virtualising linux apps within a linux based system. Its a bit like wearing underwear over your pants - sure it can be done and (technically) you still have your undies on but it just doesn't feel right ;). I Guess I'll go play with GalliumOS instead.
Why running linux apps on a limited OS on a weird and expensive device such as Pixelbook instead of buying a any bad ass laptop PC cost as much, the choices are endless, which can install any Linux distro at your leasure such as Deeping OS, my current favourate distro.

Everything was installed from the terminal, then the grey box from Xterm. When opened, a white line swirls throughout the steam button forever. Please respond as soon as you can, thanks.
Honestly just using the terminal to install softwares require no more than 20 min reading, also you can just copy the commands if you google it, no big deal.
