I absolutely LOVE the Xcel program! My daughter is having so much more fun in Xcel over Compulsory, she will have to get back on the level track once she is finished with Diamond but it's much more free at level 7-10 from what coached have told us.
Yeah compulsory is super strict. There is also NGA and AAU which are actually even less strict than Xcel. I have tried both Xcel and AAU. AAU has more freedom in skill choice but the same scoring.
Yup 👍 requirements on beam are either a series or flight, some sort of full turn, I don’t know what the split requirement is, and a dismount with out your hands touching the beam. (Brani, Gainer, cartwheel tuck, etc)
I had a hugeeeee mental block with jumping to the high bar and honestly you just gotta trust that your coaches will catch you if you do fall 🤷♀️ something that I find helpful is doing a squat on like you would when jumping to the high bar but instead of grabbing it just kinda tap it until you’re ready to actually grab it!
@@Icepack4steve Haha only thing with tapping it is I just end up grabbing it. That's what scares me I just do it out of instinct each time. So I have like no control.
@@maya_rat_ I’m a male gymnast but I honestly don’t understand why it’s such a huge mental block. I mean I’ve had mental blocks with flyaway but I think you just have to trust that you will be fine. It’s not a huge fall in the event you do fall but I would jump to the bar and just tap it. That would gain me confidence. Or you could put a block in front of the low bar about the height of the low bar and have it closer so it starts off easier and then move it back until you make it to the low bar
I don’t know if you’ve gotten oven your fear yet (great job if you did!) but I also had a mental block on bars that I got over so maybe I can help others :) (I had a fear of the squat on + catching the bar) One thing that helped be a lot was putting the bars on one of the the closest settings, two big blocks under the low bar that were the same height as the bar so there was just enough space for me between them, and then another block behind me, and 8 inchers stacked under the high bar so that if you were standing directly under the high bar you could hold it with your arms straight up (this is so that when you catch the bar your feet hit the ground and stop your swing so you don’t hit the low bar with your heels on the back swing since the bars are so close, also it helped me feel more comfortable). You start on the low bar with your feet on the mat behind you, then jump to squat on as if you’re on a floor bar. Then stand up fully on the low bar, lean forward and grab the bar. Don’t jump because the bars are close enough together that you don’t have to. When you are ready you can set the bars to be further apart so you have to jump a bit, and eventually you’ll be able to have the bars at your normal setting, and jump across! You can take away the blocks next to you and behind you whenever you feel ready to do the full cast squat on, but if you take them away before you are fully confident with catching the bar it might be harder to control (depending on how good you are at balancing on the bar). You can also try jumping from a floor bar to a raised low bar, if it’s the thought of the high bar that scares you. Depending on your height you might have to bend your knees though. I really hope this helps anyone out there struggling with catching high bar! I just wanted to give some words of encouragement and say that it is one of my favorite skills now and I think it is so much fun!! I am on my second year of gold, but before switching to excel I did level 1, 2 (twice), 3, and then Covid hit so I moved to gold. I struggle with a lot of mental blocks which is why I have to repeat levels so often, but I really want to move to platinum next year! But anyways…good luck moving to gold xx
@@Julia-xk2ew Thank you so much for taking the time to write this and for giving me a good drill to practice with! I’m definitely telling my coach about this when fall practice starts! I’m hoping that someday it’ll be one of my favorite skills too! Again thank you so so much!

The best thing that ever happened to me
I’m a xcel gold gymnast going to platinum can you compete a backhand spring on beam
Yea
Yes, it’s a flight skill so u can do a backhand spring instead of connected acro
Yea I’m doing a backhand spring instead of 2x backwalkovers
Yes but it’s not required you need a flight skill like a back handspring or an Acro connection cartwheel cartwheel, backwalkover 2x etc
