I was thinking add some baskets around the seat pedestal so you can get to the stores when the streets are covered with snow or ice.

I could imagine this unit with a high/low drive and some removable tools up front like a mower deck, snow blower/plow, garden tiller, a rear hitch to pull an ice fishing shelter. It can be made into a real useful machine. When you get it in high gear, it would be a load of fun to cruise around in the snow with. You are a real innovator and i enjoy your videos greatly.

Taryl, you are MUIST SEE youtube, for me. This is the kind of thing I did (and miss doing) when I was kid. Family and work are my life, now. When I was 13, I wanted a motorcycle and my parents said "no." Un daunted, an old man on my street, who I had mowed his yard for a couple years, let me have his old power propelled mower. This B&S powered mower had a shaft coming out of the side of it that used a bicycle chain, to drive the front wheels via a set of cogs that rode on the wheels. I took the eningine out and made some brackets out of angle iron to hold the motor in the frame of a bicycle. I found another "10 speed" bike and bolted the the big front sprocket to the small sproket on the bicycle axel. It worked! I had a three HP "motorccycle" that I could shift gears on. You had to mostly stay in low gear, which was about 15mph. The higher gears were more than the motor could pull except on flat ground, with no wind. Loved every minute of it- especially spiting my parents! 😀

We don't seem to get any snow anymore. When I was a kid in the late 60s early 70s we were outside all the time. Are bikes never got put away. I would take an old front fender turn it upside down and make a snow ski for the front wheel. Haha it didn't really work but had fun. These kids now days want to stay in the house winter and summer. I wonder if that could be a reason we don't get any snow anymore. They went on the Innerscreen and some how and turned off the snow. I wouldn't put it past them little whipper snappers. I live about 100 miles south west of Taryl's place In Morris Illinois. The biggest snow that I remember was the storm of 1967. I was going to load up my new snow Blower and take it up to my mother in laws place In Stevens point Wisconsin. She still get snow . Gee's the Northern part of Indiana up by Lake Michigan doesn't even get big lake effect snows anymore. Just wish that I knew more about Puters so I could reverse the no snow cruse that the young whipper snappers found on the Innerscreen.

Dang Taryl - you put in a lot of good work on this project lol. That is one really cool snow-sled. When I heard you were adding a torque converter I was taken by surprise there a bit lol! I was like - what's going to be next? A transmission and a rear wheel differential?!?! hahaha. Keep up the great work man. *Chefs kiss*.
Also I think the proper test is to see how well it can climb hills / go through rough terrain. Setup a mini tractor pull for it haha :P You can use that for other things you build in the future too! It would provide you a good litmus tester. Something even a typical mower can be tested on - but also capable of testing something like what you're riding now - or even stronger! Or not - could be a waste of time haha. Whatever you do i'll be watching.

    Hi Taryl,
As I responded to video #2, we had a couple Bolens Diablo Rouge on our farm back in the '60s.
It seems you've experienced the pros & cons of the configuration.
    Pros..
    - very maneuverable. Turning that tightly around a post at the end of your yard would not be possible in a traditional snowmobile configuration without getting off and bouncing it around.. if the snow weren't too deep.
    - if stuck, you can disconnect the sled by simply pulling a pin and then walking the tractor out.
    - although it is done on traditional snow machines in Canadian northern communities during the summer, as you've demonstrated, the tractor / trailer configuration better lends itself to the sled being outfitted with wheels..
Cons.. (& why, IMO, they didn't take over the market)..
    - on a traditionally configured snow machine, heavier loads deliver more traction on the tread, while the weight on the skis remains relatively constant. But on a tractor / sled configuration, a heavier load only delivers more drag on the skis with no addition weight on the tread to deliver more traction... therefore..
    - the Diablo Rouge tractors were deceivingly heavier than expected.. I assume Bolens did that purposely to deliver sufficient traction..
    BTW..
The tractor / trailer configuration with wheels has been utilized in eastern European communities as a work horse, often used for such things as hauling produce to market or cord wood home for heating..
So it appears you may have built a pretty good SHTF transport vehicle..
Although not as fast, I bet it's MPG may be that of a Prius? 8-)
    Best regards, Dennis

When I was in Korea, the locals have a tractor we all refer to as a "1 Eyed Buffalo".
It was the exact same thing as your concept, 2 wheels, and a simple engine, a deisel i think, and a tow hitch to pull a wagon.
It was amazing the amount of work those people could get out of those little tractors.
again, you can sit on it, too small, just 2 drive wheels, but an incredible amount of torque applied to the wheels.
A single cylinder deisel motor that was hand cranked, made in China I am sure...
I would love to have one myself for doing things around the property.
