    It was believed that Ketterer created the cuckoo in the 1730s, inspired by the bellows of church organs to adapt the technology in lieu of the chimes then typically used in clocks. This oft-cited theory first emerged in a relatively popular 1979 self-published book The Black Forest Cuckoo Clock

      Hello! How are you? I used a chemical stripper for brass. You should be very careful because you can't keep the action for long time. All controlled use is beneficial. There are those who are against and others approve. We must apply the technique we have mastered the most. Test before applying any product, that's the secret! @johnbiteme9118

      Hi how are you? I use brass or bronze stripper. Hint: always in shorter time. Never leave long periods.
      another way is to disassemble and use a 0 steel sponge and steel brushes. Never use force. Always with a light hand!

      @@woodtransformer I'm doing well. Hope all is well on your end. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my comment and I appreciate you providing the suggestion. I picked up one at a garage sale for next to nothing because the case and carvings were in pieces. Luckily, it's complete with the exception of the rods that control the bellows. I believe its known as a quail/cuckoo clock due to having two birds. This is my first time working on anything like this so I'm trying to do all the research I can before I start on anything. Your video provided a heap of knowledge for me. Thank you.

    Also the lever that comes out of the count wheel. If you adjust it to ride on the count wheel vs having a small gap that will keep the bird from bouncing in and out of the clock.

    I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I was in watching this video! No audio explanation as to what was being done or why and running at high speed; I was not able learn anything. If you are worried about someone stealing your methods of repair why make the video at all. As for myself I only watch videos that teach something.

    • @woodtransformer
      @woodtransformer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hello! Are you doing?
      About speed... it's common to have quick videos like this. The objective is to convey the idea of the steps and illustrate the moments. Clock is complex and each one can have a different defect. It's not about hiding knowledge.
      About the audio... doing it in English or German does not guarantee everyone's understanding. You can send me a message about your questions and I will be happy to get back to you.
      I'm sorry I didn't like it, I hope someday I can do something I like.

I will tell you even though your video was very fast you did a better job of showing how and what might need to be repaired than some of the other videos I’ve watched. I have 2 clocks my wife brought back from Germany in the late 80’s that I believe just need to be cleaned. They both were working fine, however over a period of time they both began to run slower and slower until they stopped. Neither one has a music box, but both have coo-coo birds. One has never been cleaned and the other one I cleaned and oiled 20 years ago. So I might need to call upon you if I can’t figure it out. Thanks again!

    Thanks for your video. Can you tell me the clear liquid you used to clean the wood?

    • @woodtransformer
      @woodtransformer  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @hosocat1410 Hello, thank you for sending the question, which is extremely relevant.
      Part by part...
      1° - We must evaluate the uniformity of the dyeing. If it is uniform, we can start cleaning, if not, we have to evaluate whether we will do a partial or total restoration;
      2° - In any of the above cases, we must identify the material that was used in the manufacture... you can do a test in a small area and with low interference in appearance; in this case it was dyed with solvent-based material, 98% of Cuckoo's of this style are like this.
      Then I washed it with soap and water to remove the dust. Always in small areas, with as little material as possible.
      Soon after, I moistened a cotton swab with solvent and started the process of diluting only the surface of the dye. You have to be very calm and do it in small areas... this is the secret.
      I hope it helped you! Thank you for participating!!!

    • @woodtransformer

      Hello! For everyday life I use a dry brush. For cases of restoration, I evaluate case by case. It all depends on the dye the manufacturer used. We should do a test in an isolated area. Someday, when the old McMuffin paper fails, I'll fix it up the correct way. But in the meantime I'm rather enjoying my McCuckoo clock! 🤣 I have since gotten a second one that is much smaller and not as grand in any way, but everything is intact except for no pendulum. Any ideas on what to do? Im not sure how to even guess what size pendulum or if it matters or how to make a new one? Any advice would be appreciated. It's a very simple, seemingly cheap clock that I think cuckoos once every 15 minutes. I has one small weight and chain. No door for the bird, either, unfortunately. My favorite part is the bird busting thru the door lol this clock is very small, also, but I just love them all regardless of value or grandiosity. I was so excited I didn't even realize the pendulum part was missing.
