Vilcabamba was the lowest elevation that I experienced. It felt a little too warm after all the other places that I had visited. The hike up to the cross on Mandango was very pleasant. So many beautiful wild flowers, birds and butterflies.
It's actually a lot smaller than Cuenca. Cuenca has around 600k population, while Vilcabamba is around 5K so think small town. The down weather there is great though.
Can not wait to experience this! I see plenty of options in case the elevation would be of an issue. Would love information on shipping household goods, not going to bring furniture or appliances but essentials so pallets or small cargo unit

But you didn't say the most important matter...... Vilcabamba is the town with more old people in Ecuador....and maybe in the world.....because of mineral water that thay drink from the river. Many persons which go there.....improve their health....just because of the water.
It's good you're hiking in a group. In 2018 an Argentina woman was hiking alone assaulted, beaten by two teenagers in the hills of vilcabamba.
