MTH model R142A/R188s (August 2016)

- Just some shots of my MTH R142A cars. One car in each set has been retrofitted with LED lights to model the R188 'C car' inserted in between all R142A conversion sets. At the moment, three sets have one insert car with LED lights and one set has the LED lights in all 5 cars. The full 5 car set with LEDs (factory set) I decided not to run for this video, but I will run it in the near future. This video just shows some switch movements where I swap the trains between the two tracks with my new switches. I also show the train going into my new (small) yard at the end. One of the sets have 4 conversion cars consisting of the original MTH R142As manufactured before the full production sets, which were sold as add-ons on flat cars. 7496-7498-7499-7500 are the original cars which is why their destination signs say 6 but the announcements say 4. 7927 is a new PS3 production car and has the correct destination sign. I will change destination signs accordingly as work on my fleet progresses.

The first station looks like City Hall Station, it was abandoned because of the huge gap in the station, and the station turned.

Awesome video dude! It's been awhile, love the way your yard looks! I actually prefer this setup over your previous setup. Those switches look sick especially when you showed them up close. I'm still really hoping I get this set, I've actually already got a set of Lionel FasTracks for when I do get the set. And of course after I get the R142As I will get other sets as well. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! I enjoy this set up much more as well. The switches are a big bonus since I can switch the trains over to the other track and do proper terminal moves for out and back runs.

R188 was a modified R142A. Unfortunately, these sets aren't sold anymore as they were produced back in 2014. If you are lucky, you can find them on eBay.

7496 is the number of an R188 train car in New York. These are NYC Subway models.

Would it be possible to run a ten (or eleven for 7 trains) car set?
Yes, but it would consume a lot of power and is not practical since running a configuration like that would require two power cars.
This and Awesome Video! Also, me and my bro actually do subway stations and know how to make a better scene like how you see them in real life coming up! This is definitely going on my like list!

I would say for all of the tracks plus the train and its car's it may be about $225ish
They should make the MTH R142 2 and 5 lines also including track screeching features Bc they screech a lot more than the R142As

They aren't sold for cheap prices unfortunately. And since the set is rare now, the price has doubled.

What is the difference between a R142a and R188?
Nothing really, Only : Different Propulsion , Different features.. But nothing else really.
R188s have CBTC whereas R142As don't. There are minor differences such as lighting in the newer cars and such but the main difference is CBTC.

how much were these?
For the R142A set *(4 cars)* it was $400 when I bought it. Since this set is now rare, these sets can be in the $600-$800 range. I also got add on cars to make the trains 5 cars in length.

If they could actually get the announcements right Maybe. But the fact that you can’t just change the display to any number and download different announcements is pathetic in 2018. Not worth a fee hundred

I've experimented with fake gap fillers in the past lol, you can see a video I made here: th-cam.com/video/8v4DYtowuEI/w-d-xo.html where I just placed the blocks in positions where they could be moved closer to the train. I might reinstall them in the future but I'm not sure yet.
