  • I first encountered Belfast's Pink Turds in Space in 1991 as one half of a Slap-A- Ham Records split 7" co-anchored by Claremont, CA's Charred Remains (aka Man in the Bastard.) The Pink Turds' side featured a Morbid Mark illustration of Margaret Thatcher outfitted like an astronaut, adrift in an outer space-scape teeming with steaming piles of excrement that were orbiting the Earth like an asteroid belt. To describe this as an inspiring package for for a 19-year-old punker would be an understatement, particularly when the one considers the complementary Morbid Mark artwork on the Charred Remains side. Based on this initial encounter with Belfast's crap artists, I tracked down the Turds' "Greatest Shits" 12" in short order. It is from that record that "The Really Really Depressing Song" comes.
Bonus points for anyone who can name all the "Greatest Shits" on the cover.
    [Lyrics]
    "In the darkness nothing stirs
A voice cries out, frustrated prayers
A sheet of fire from the sky
    - The End is nigh
    Sitting stagnant rotting flesh
    Filled with pain awaiting death
No way out is plain to see
    - The End is nigh
    Radiation fills the air
    There's nothing left except despair
    Fallout's coming just like snow
    - The End is nigh
Your last thoughts will be brief
Death has come to bring you relief."
