And so what? The US planned the Vietnam War to last a few months but was there for 19 years! They planned the Iraq war for a few months but were there for 7 years. They planned the Afghan war for a few months but were there for 19 years.
And in all these wars, the US never fully defeated their adversaries who promptly took over the country the moment the US departed.

This documentary is Biased and faulted especially the aspect concerning Col. Banjo. There are many other Yorubas who fought for Baifra. Even nonmilitary people like Prof. Wole Soyinka stood for Biafra and was Jailed by the Gowon Military Government. This video casts aspartions on Yorubas . The producer/commentator is surely an Igbo singing "victory" of Biafra forces.

Even though the tone of the source is different and indicates that Biafra may not hv been fair to Banjo and 3 others, it still point out that Banjo appeared to hv become sympathetic to the west...he tried to avoid another occupation of the west by Biafran forces. And you and I knows that it's punishable in war situation if you are caught.
So, just like the Diya coup situation, Banjo is not entirely blameless if we leave sentiments out of it.
I'm not Igbo, neither am I Yoruba, I hv have no sentiment for any side. But all the few books I have read about the case point to the same direction. The only difference is in the tone of the writers. Check the description of this video for a link to our latest edition on Banjo story.

@@HispleMedia I watched it and kindly listened to all facts presented. For Banjo, if he had any motive, it would have been more beneficial for him to march his soldiers to Lagos. A victory meant he controlled Nigeria's capital seat while Ojukwu was in the East. He could easily declare himself the new military head in Lagos and could have quickly suppressed any mutiny among Biafran soldiers in Lagos by rallying support from the Western region. And for Banjo to have stepped into the Western Region territory was like declaring war on Yoruba because he had to conquer many villages, towns, and cities before he got to Lagos. There is no way Biafran soldiers would have won the guerrilla warfare within Yoruba territory if they had decided to march on. Banjo gave everything to Ojukwu to keep and sustain the Biafra republic but was not ready to be part of the team to destroy Yorubaland to satisfy Ojukwu's revisionist ambition.

Thanks for this story. My Father told me that if Banjo had not crossed the Niger to Asaba but remained in Onitsha Biafra would have won the war. At that time everything Nigeria had been flushed out of Biafra land. Then the argument was also whether it was right to assign such a critical task to Banjo. My thinking was that if it was Joe Achuzia that handled the task he would not have gone beyond Asaba.

The propaganda aspect of this video goes into overdrive after 5 minutes. The truth behind Banjo and Ojukwu agreement and the stalling around Ore is very important historically and now. The answers offered, by this video are insane, incorrect and childlike. Awolowo and Victor Banjo were raising a Yoruba army? From what ? Really! Ojukwu had dignitaries come for a week?Gift of Ogogoro swayed the assasin squad from their task of striking at Ojukwu, really.? No mention of the two trials. How is Ore 35 miles from Lagos? An objective look at the issues gives us plenty to learn and make use of. Your account does not tally with Bernard Odogwu or Ademoyega. Your objective seems to distort yoruba officials and army but do remember they only represented a tiny minority of the yoruba population. In exactly the same way that the coup of jan 66 is incorrectly termed an ibo coup, when the perpetrators represent the political and army elite - and hence a tiny minority of ibo population. You too are joining the same madness. How can you paint all ibo or all yoruba with same brush. ? You denigrate your own film with your own ridiculous dialogue.

I wish we could get Banjo's side of this conspiracy theory. It was a great act of military folly to leave Biafra and conquer Mid West and Cross to Ore? I will ask , respectfully, if these innocent bystanders places were part of Biafra Ojukwu had declared? Did Biafra have the arms and ammunition to matain war at a place as large as Mid West and Western Region? No. Some account stands by the fact of this lack of armunition as a valid reason Banjo and Ifejuna retrived back to Enugu. If Banjo wanted to secede from Biafra, he would not have returned back to Enegu. This makes the allegations against him weak.

Biafrans alone fought Nigeria Britain and with support from 10 other countries and yet they stood their ground for 3 years and more deaths and casualties on the side of the Nigerian army and the Biafrans lost more on civilians due to starvation plot by the British. And if not for the starvation plot, Biafrans had the chance to win. It was more of a gorilla war. My father was a Biafran army captain, my uncles were also in the Biafran army. Most of these stories are mere figments of the imagination of the narrator! The story of the Midwest invasion is a complete fabrication. Col Banjo led the troops quite alright but the move was aborted because himself and Ojukwu were bickering over the leadership of the puppet state Ojukwu had just created -Benin republic. For 3 days they couldn't agree on who to lead the new republic. Banjo suggested the names of Ejoor, Ogbemudia and Trimnell. The first 2 declined and Ojukwu rejected the latter as he was a half-caste. Ojukwu settled for a Midwest Igbo in the person of Major Okonkwo. Ejoor who had escaped radioed Lagos and the federal troops advanced towards Ore. The first major battle took place there and the Biafrans beat a retreat. Banjo was recalled back to Biafra where he was tried and executed. Banjo was meant to meet with Yoruba leaders, invade dodan barracks, arrest and or kill Gowon, but the time wasted took away the element of surprise.

Banjo and Ifeajuna is a real soldier. They were tried and killed by jungle justice coupled with Ojukwu's propaganda levels against them because he fears those two soldiers so much including the late Nzeogwu who died mysteriously as well. Ojukwu was very desperate and have selfish interest for power thereby sheepishly, visionless and blindly drag his Ibo people to a war that they lost even before it started. When Ojukwu saw that British is doing the whole dirty job he kept fighting until when it is his turn to die he ran away for his life only to return to Nigeria 12years later and started contesting for election to rule the same Nigeria that he wanted to secede from. Who is fooling who?

@@ikemefulewisdom4791 but no concrete evidence was found around this. The story still has lots of ambiguity in it. History says they were tried twice; during the first trial they were not found guilty and nothing really was found, after which they were tried the second time and found guilty. Lots of things around this. But I do feel that Banjo and Ojukwu had different missions at the time. They were both progressives, but they didn't want the same goals. As much as Ojukwu wanted freedom for Biafra, Banjo still looked forward to having a single entity "Nigeria". Pulling back at Ore was almost imperative for Banjo, the Yoruba's were not even ready for any secession at the time. I rather feel that, the losses of the Biafran forces on those fronts was big blow, and Banjo and his team were the victims. There was never really any concrete evidence of his betrayal. If you read "Why We Struck" by Ademoyega (one of the guys in the first coup) you would capture a lot from it.

You have no credible research and no credible answers but you invite me to watch a next instalment. My orientation is different from yours. I am interested in the Social, political, economic uplift of the whole of Afrika. I also study the systemic relationship that allows the global North to steal Afrikan mineral and human resources without payment to form the basis of their so called 1st world existence. Being a Yoruba or Ibo Nationalist or even a Nigerian Nationalist misses the point, and we are still suffering today the legacy of our disunity and betrayal of those that had a plan for all of us back in the early 60's, againt Pan European exploitation. I can only hope that you use the resources you have wisely and stop swimming with the tide to spread that which you can not substantiate." You are very wrong in your conclusion... I have done reasonable research on this topic... In my second video (already uploaded today), it is clear that:
.there was a plot by Banjo (corroborated by many sources)
.ojukwu was paranoid and looking for imaginary enemies within
.the charges against Banjo appeared fabricated to meet predetermined outcome.
From outset Banjo was not in support of the war (according his letter to the wife). But why he accepted Ojukwu's offer is still a point of debate to this day... None of his writings was able to explain that.
      My conclusion:
While Ojukwu was looking for enemies within to set as an example, Banjo played into his trap.
If you can, watch our latest video on that topic and let us know your thoughts.
      Thank you.
