Thank you for being genuine. I've watched just about everything you've made and appreciate your honesty. There are other young couples living in Mexico (with TH-cam channels) who used to be genuine but are now more focused on gimmicks and selling their crap that they lost me as a viewer several months ago. I have enjoyed your many travels, the delectable foods, the language challenge you've achieved, waterfalls, beaches etc. I was blown away with your trip to the zoo & Mexico City. My struggle in PM was remembering they didn't have plastic bags. I think I bought about 100 of those fabric bags and always left them in the car or at the airbnb...... they got ice all locked up! There is a process to getting ice. How about left turns from the far right lane in Puerto Vallarta? Dialing Mexico numbers from a US phone. It took me 10 minutes to figure out how to dial I wanna pizza. PS- glad to see the PM beach shots showing the beach so clean. You should do some more videos and mention the beach since it gets a bad rep. You should also do a video in a grocery store bakery. Pastries in Mexico are magical and trying to figure out what to do is a little funny/crazy with getting the pan etc. I luv mexico.

  • @laloptk100

What you call overeasy can be "Huevos volteados", which means they fry the egg and then they flip it to cook the second side for a few seconds to not have raw parts but still have the yolk liquid. Not everyone will understand if you ask for "huevos volteados". In my experience, places like Sanborns and Toks get it right, but most little kitchens always overcook the eggs if you ask that.

Yes, I drive a LOT in Mexico and it's sometimes hard to understand the "three lane highway" where cars going both directions yeild to the curb so a car can pass in the middle of the road making a 2 way into a 3 lane highway (if they have shoulders and most roads don't). Well, the main highways are paved, but most side secondary road may be gravel or dirt roads.

Hey guys, I’m Mexican and I have been living in Asia for 6 years already. I would say that the best advice to know about scams, how to avoid them and many other tips is to try to make friends with local people in the place you are living in as they will share with you the best way of doing the things you want to do: where to fill up the gas tank, where to go see a doctor, what food to eat, etc. That’s the way most of the people do it here. I’m from Mexico City by the way. Good luck with your adventures!

23:57 It depends what you have to pay and what state you are. Most of services in CDMX can be paid only and in the backside of the bill it tells where you can pay it. For in case you lose or the bill doesn't arrive you can use an older bill with the same account number. Most of services have lax rules if you don't pay for a month (depending on the amount), you won't be out of service (except celphones), they can give another month for you to get up to date with your bills.

It's pretty easy, just follow this:
      1. Numbers increase from the centre of the town out, so if you're looking for a 2000, is going to be at the end of the street.
      2. Each block increase 100, e.g. this block is 300, next block 400, and the block behind 200.
      3. One side of the street are even numbers and the other side are odd.
E.g. You are looking for 624 and you see a house with 203, your place is on the other side of the street, it is four blocks away and is going to be the 13th house from the corner.

I love the fact that fresh fruit and/or fresh squeezed juice is usually served with breakfast in Mexico. I normally cook a late breakfast at our condo now so we only eat out for late lunch or early dinner (which is extremely affordable) but I sometimes forget to buy fruit and I don't have a juicer yet so I miss breakfasts out! My funniest struggle was finding laundry soap! I was apparently looking in the wrong area of MEGA and mistakenly bought stain remover. I normally use Myers natural products in the U.S. and have yet to find any equivalent in Mexico. So far all I see is foca, persil or tide. Still, all in all, it's all worth it as in time I will figure things out and Mexico has done wonders for lowering my high blood pressure and stress. BTW: Our electric and water bills offer automatic pay options from our bank account. Mail in Mexico is slow, like by weeks or months sometimes, I will encourage my family and friends to just wait for a visit and we can exchange birthday or other gifts in person instead. (Chances are it's actually quicker anyway) Embrace the challenges my friends, it's all a learning experience!

I can't count the number of times I laughed out loud watching the two of you! Especially the struggle parts, you handled everything with wit and humor! I am looking for someplace peaceful, green with swimming neat by to retire to. Was Thailand only, now Mexico is looking better. TY

Really well done guys! I was just in Huatulco in December and the Oxxo did not take my Canadian Visa...what??? Bit it did take my Canadian Mastercard. Weird.
I leaned on the local Facebook group to help me through challenges (also in Roatan which I have just returned)
Maddy you are looking well and I appreciate the new more discrete clothing choice. I did follow your health journey and was impressed by your extensive and honest coverage. I had one bad experience with doctor fee gouging (“gringo price”) and two fabulous experiences with doctors attached to a pharmacy.

There are a lot of people who decide to retire in San Miguel de Allende. It's this little town with amazing landscape. There are a lot of people who speak English, too. In any case, welcome to Mexico. :)

Spent a few days in Puerto 2 weeks ago with my wife. Back for a 3rd visit. Was hoping to run into you guys walking Laska. El Pesquero was recommended and was excellent. Beaches are pristine. Good day at Paradise Beach Club and Unico. We started in Merida and rented a car and drove the toll road 180D. Merida is amazing as well. Can't wait to the return the Yucatan. Keep up the good work. Would be great to cross paths.

I try to pay gas in cash. Once, I paid by credit card, and the attendant took it away, and I noticed he was writing something off my card. Thought is was a little odd, but I didn't think that much of it. The next day, I had a charge on my card for something ordered on the internet. Fortunately, the credit card company reversed the charge for me. --- (Also, unrelated, note that Oxxo is pronounced "ohk so." Remember, "o" in Spanish is always long.)

Tip in restaurants: 10% (18% might be expected for a party of 6 or more). Eggs: “estrellados con la yema blanda”. Gas: pay attention pump screen it’s zeros then ask: For full “lleno por favor”, if not just the amount of pesos you want to add, then tip 5-10 pesos if they checked oils levels and tire pressure. Vitamins: GNC or any supermarket. Cheese: try Panela or Fresco, manchego, Gouda. Driving: use Waze (for short trips I would use Taxi or Uber availability now in many cities). Have fun in Mexico!

Hello again. An excellent video. Soooo much good information. It caused me to laugh out loud about the many hurdles that I experience in my Meso-American travels. Does Fed Ex or UPS operate in Mexico?

Fed ex absolutely operates at least in cdmx (so hard for me not to say the df - I show my age). My husband is a driver for them here in the states and last year I was in cdmx visiting and took multiple pictures of fed ex trucks to assure him there were job openings and he could easily transfer! The next time I visited, My Mexican sister (long story, I was an high school exchange student in fortin, Veracruz in 1977) picked up my husband and I from the airport in cdmx and he told me even he, a seasoned "crazy fed ex driver" was not ready for Mexican driving, for sure not in mexico city!! BTW, I spent a few weeks in Quintana Roo that year and there were only a handful of hotels- it was truly nature's paradise then.

Yes, make an entire video on living, shopping, eating, traveling, lodging, money, etc, etc in Mexico. Things have probably changed since I was last there, and I no longer have my Mexican-American BF 🙁, so I need all the help I can get. They used to have old American RR trains you could travel all the way to Mexico City. So cool, but of course, they are no longer. Too bad. They were nice and safe. Thanks for the videos.

Very interesting to listen to all of these learning points as I would call them. Some probably more frustrating but I think it is really #20 that is a big deal for many people as it has become so common to hear it everywhere and then when you get scammed it further feeds into it. Unfortunately getting scammed with payment/ money / shopping etc does happen a lot and it becomes hard to trust people..

So, one of the new things you can do at Oxxo is that you can actually have stuff from Amazon Mexico delivered there. Just in case you won't be home to receive a package they can drop it off there for you, Oxxo charges a fee of course but you can go pick it up later. Yet another "convenience" or the convenience store.

Right from the start of this video, I knew I was getting hooked into another binge session ! I've walked down that street (Rojo Gomez) so many times from Ojo to all the restaurants in PM. There are so many ex-pats there it is a bit disconcerting at times. Like your wine stop at Chedraui, seems like a lot of friendly gringos enjoying the shade :) Another place my friends and I like is Sazon Jarocho, aka, Red Chairs, on Timon in town. I'll be back as usual in December, hope you're still there through all this current trouble. Hasta !

loving this video - ironically, I have just spent 4 years living in NJ/NY and I can completely relate - the experiences you're having in Mexico (vs the USA) are very similar (except for air-con - there is too much air con) and this is my second time moving as an adult - so 3 continents, 2 hemispheres, 3 different cultures (the other being the EU, Ireland) and the US has been the most interesting/complicated :) i love it but go figure =D
