They were added to the DCU decades after the original series was published. When the series was first written and published, it was entirely self-contained.
Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, and John Higgins, published by DC Comics in 1986 and 1987. Watchmen focuses on six main characters: the Comedian, Doctor Manhattan, the Nite Owl, Ozymandias, Rorschach, and the Silk Spectre. These characters were originally based on the Mighty Crusaders[1] and then reworked in an unsolicited proposal to fit superhero properties DC had acquired from Charlton Comics in the early 1980s. Moore later based the team’s predecessors, the Minutemen, on the Mighty Crusaders. Since the publisher planned to integrate Charlton's superheroes into the main DC Universe and the script would have made many of them unusable for future stories, series writer Alan Moore eventually agreed to create original characters.
Saw this for my senior ditch day. I bought the original novel from this movie. I can't understate how much the movie understood the book. Minus the pointless parallel pirate substory
They aren't really knockoffs of other superheroes they are just their own thing, they are in another world in the sense of there are comics and books that these come from. They are their own story. Also If you didn't know this is Zack Snyder who did this. You probably can tell someone from the color scheme and the feel of it and the action. He is the same one who did Batman vs Superman and man of steel. He's an awesome director. I really wish they let him keep the DC universe. I think some of the storytelling could have got better but he knows how to make it look right.
You have seen The Comedian in something very recent. The same actor played Thomas Wayne. Bruce Wayne's dad, who was in the very beginning of Batman v Superman movie you recently watched. -OG
I love this movie I used to hate it and thought it was so boring and long but I was only a kid as I matured I realised how much of a great story it is- in my opinion
I remember well, after watching this movie in theatre, I thought by myself on my way home: Wow, I wish this director (Zack Snyder) could do a Justice League movie! Rest is history and I'm waiting for JL 2 & 3 'til I die.
@Devin tho not the fan of those some are, i love how it is played for real and played with grit. I would not say "knock off" this was created by people who wanted to do their OWN super hero stories and not have to sign with Marvel OR Dc. hope that helps
It’s been established in the comics that Dr. Manhattan is more powerful than Superman. But, you asked which was better. I think Superman is the “better superhero”. Superman was the first superhero, and being good and helpful is part of his core character.
Damn people getting on my boy for not being a comic book fanatic. Great reaction regardless. The watchmen is a Great graphic novel which you should check out sometime.
You gotta see the watchmen as each, excluding dr Manhattan, having a super serum like captain America. The majority of them from that universe don’t have outrageous powers like the hulk or Thor. But they are very different from normal humans. Most have superior strength and speed as opposed to humans. Ozymandias was born with the strength, speed, and also being blessed with a higher brain power than anyone else.
1) According to the story itself, Dr. Manhattan is the only person who’s got real powers. Ozymandius MIGHT qualify, with his catch a bullet trick. Everyone else is just a human in a mask, to hide their identity. Owl man is sort of vaguely like Batman, ‘cause he’s got money for gadgets. (And in an alternate universe, where everyone is evil, Bruce Wayne is evil Owlman, not Batman. But that’s just a coincidence.) Though, after the movie, which was based on the comic, DC did buy the rights to Watchmen. Dr. Manhattan shows up in the DC universe and straight up ruins every super-hero and supervillain, AT THE SAME TIME. He keeps time traveling, changing stuff, sees how that affects the future, time travels again, changes something else…. It was brutal. Dr. Manhattan cane take out like… ALL the gods… at once… and be bored doing it.
In this universe Dc comics are just comics so after these events Dr. Manhattan went to the main Dc universe and started messing with stuff. Only just to see what would happen if he did, met Superman face to face.
@@KonohazFinest I said "probably" to save face because I dont know enough about Superman in the comics. I have heard he has fought and won against God like beings before, so just to be safe....

You know what other DC film you should react to on your channel when you have the time? The Losers. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in it; he plays the comedian in Watchmen. Great underrated film.
It's weird because they tried to distill the entire comic series into one movie. Imagine how disjointed the Avenger's movie would be if they tried to condense the Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, The Avengers, Ultron, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame movies into a single movie that was less than three hours long.
I can't believe back in 2009 most critics and the public didn't like Watchmen when it first came out. Zack Snyder has made just as many good movies as he's made not so good movies. Watchmen is one of his good movies.
Funnily enough, you were kinda right about these being knockoff superheroes. Alan Moore based these characters off existing DC properties, albeit for the purposes of satire.
I'll point out something no one ever seems to understand. Rorschach's words coming from a journal as reported on by a less than major news source is not the same as if he lived and the words came from his own mouth, a hero. It's bitersweet because in his end scene, he knows this, and he knows ozmandias still wins. The truth will be just another conspiracy, and he went down fighting and doing the best he could, but in the end it amounts to nothing. Which is how he feels his life turned out, grasping at straws to fight a never ending war against an unwinnable opponent. Crime. His life fighting the good fight meant nothing, when people willing to do great evil and claim its for the best still win. It invalidates his whole being.
Dr Manhatten would obliterate Superman.... He lives his entire existence at the same time... any knowledge or interactions with Superman he would know/have always known was going to happen. His ability to alter matter, space and energy is one of the more broken power sets in the Superhero genre.

They were added to the DCU decades after the original series was published. When the series was first written and published, it was entirely self-contained.
Yeah. The graphic novel was published by DC but Watchmen weren't a part of the DCU when it came out.
😱😱😱😱😱 YES!!! You finally did it
Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, and John Higgins, published by DC Comics in 1986 and 1987.
I think some of the storytelling could have got better but he knows how to make it look right.
if you take notice owl man saves the waynes in the news paper shown
You have seen The Comedian in something very recent.
This isn’t a superhero movie for kids😂😂.. How did you get away with it
Greg Plitt was the model for Dr. Manhattans body
I had a 1990 red Honda Civic manual with those same wheels
It’s been established in the comics that Dr. Manhattan is more powerful than Superman.
But, you asked which was better. I think Superman is the “better superhero”. Superman was the first superhero, and being good and helpful is part of his core character.
Watchmen is DC 😤😤😤😤 if we ever got so lucky they would put Dr. Manhattan versus Superman
Damn people getting on my boy for not being a comic book fanatic. Great reaction regardless. The watchmen is a Great graphic novel which you should check out sometime.
This is a great movie bro!! the book was bananas!!
My favourite superhero film. I can’t abide all the others as they’re so twee and preachy.
Watchmen was The Boys when The Boys was still a very young comic. 😅
But that’s just a coincidence.)
Though, after the movie, which was based on the comic, DC did buy the rights to Watchmen.
Oz, no one could land a punch on. Extra fast reflex, that was like. Spiderman superpower, so yeah, he was the 2nd.
In this universe Dc comics are just comics so after these events Dr. Manhattan went to the main Dc universe and started messing with stuff. Only just to see what would happen if he did, met Superman face to face.
"Oh they ain't even show it" 🤣
Glad to see those good vibes!
Bro Rorschach's death hurts, every time.
Dr Manhattan is probably one of the few beings that could beat Superman
Im a Superman stan but he doesn't probably he does and near all of marvel aside from some beings who can go toe to toe with him
@@KonohazFinest I said "probably" to save face because I dont know enough about Superman in the comics. I have heard he has fought and won against God like beings before, so just to be safe....
@@neojason8349 oh no bro my bad I didn't mean to come off like an asshole or anything lol. Well they're are some version of superman that could give him a run for his money but Manhattan is probably the most OP "superhero" made
its not even a question of whether Dr Manhattan can its a matter of if he gives a fuck to lol If superman attacked him Dr manhattan would probably just sigh in boredom.
@@Pr0x1mo true but one of the few versions of Superman that can give him a fight is probably cosmic armor Superman
So you know your reaction to Dr Manhattan is the same reaction Batman had to Superman in Batman v Superman. IJS!
Dr. Manhattan destroyed the whole Justice League in just a few seconds in the comics!
You know what other DC film you should react to on your channel when you have the time? The Losers. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in it; he plays the comedian in Watchmen. Great underrated film.
Last I checked there are animated dubs of the original comics on youtube. There are only 10 issues.
This is one of my favorite movies. Right next to brick. My guy just earned a sub. Keep up the grind big dawg
You gotta get your world history up my friend
Kiddin me? 2/3 thirds of the younger generations cant find the Statue of Liberty on a tourist map of NYC.
yessir! this movie is longer than batman v. superman and is a one parter
"Men get arrested dogs get put down"
Funnily enough, you were kinda right about these being knockoff superheroes.
Alan Moore based these characters off existing DC properties, albeit for the purposes of satire.
The watchmen Tv series its only 1 season, but its great worth a watch.
This is my all time favorite movie, up there with Forrest Gump. Just two totally different movies.
One of the best comic movies ever made
Dr Manhatten would obliterate Superman....
He lives his entire existence at the same time... any knowledge or interactions with Superman he would know/have always known was going to happen. His ability to alter matter, space and energy is one of the more broken power sets in the Superhero genre.
I've surprising never seen or read watchmen but it looks good
