      Dark isn't very marketable in squeaky clean superhero stories. The sex aspect shocked me. I was only a teenager then and spent time in the local comic store in Broadbeach, the Goldie and any new stuff, it was there first. This movie is out there to some. Not me

      The comic was a masterpiece of layered symbolism. The film actually adds a layer when you realize Snyder intentionally references 911 multiple times, as if to say the false attack narrative isn't as far fetched as it may seem

    The graphic novel is the only comic book in the Time Magazine list of 100 best books. The original story is a deconstruction of the superhero genre. That’s why it deviates from the tropes of traditional comic books like Marvel and DC. The movie is a great adaptation. It has some differences from the book mainly because it was necessary to include more action and less absurdity. It’s one of my favorite films. Very underrated. 🙂

    Ooooooooo! Glad you watched this!
    The thing I usually don't like about Super heros is that *usually* they aren't realistic, or even internally consistent with their logic.
    Watchmen (and the boys as another great EG) rips that notion to shreds. What would it ACTUALLY be like if superman existed. He'd be like any other powerful human, V unlikely to be this incredibly kind figure.
    Watchmen and The Boys explore how horrific some actual superheros existing would likely be.
    It's social commentary, satire of the perfect super hero, and as a standalone piece of work it's incredible filmmaking!

    So during the opening credits, when they show the montage of the Olde Tyme superhero’s down the years. There’s the scene with the dark-haired woman hero, who is in a parade, and she grabs some woman and kisses her. That’s based on a real-life picture. After WW2, when all the soldiers returned to America, there was a “Welcome Back” parade for them. Some random navy dude sees a nurse, and gives her that kiss. (They interviewed her later. She did not know him, and was not happy he did that.). And some photojournalist just happened to catch it on camera. So in the movie here, you can see when the woman hero kisses her, there’s a navy guy looking pissed, ‘cause she beat him to the kiss.
    And she’s the hero that is murdered in her bed later, because they weren’t cool with Lesbians, back then.
    A couple years ago, HBO did a 1 season story of that world, but now. We find out that the first person to put on the mask and be a vigilante was the hangman guy. He did it because he was black, and he knew that nobody would believe the bad guys did the bad things, if there was a black man kicking their asses. So he wore a disguise, then other people wore masks too, and it just became a thing. They got Louis Gossett, Jr. to play 130yr old Hangman.

    It's interesting you say knockoff because they kinda are. The mafia ran comic book company called Charlton Heroes which would eventually go under sometime in the 50s. But they did happen to get quite a few talented artists and writers who would eventually work for DC. And DC would eventually buy the rights to all the Charlton Heroes. The writer of Watchmen Alan Moore wanted to use the Charlton Heroes for this story but DC wouldn't let him because it was too controversial what he wanted to do. So instead, he created Watchmen as a replacement to mirror the Charlton Heroes. Nite Owl is Blue Beatle. Rorschach is The Question. Silk Spectre is Nightshade. The Comedian is Peacemaker. Dr Manhattan is The Atom. And Ozymandias is Thunderbolt, which is the only IP that wasn't bought by DC. So they are knock-offs. Just done in the best way possible.

    Ozymandias is one of the best villains, for a comics standarts ofcourse, the kind of "villain" whose side you can easily take.
    His goal is clear and understandable, there is no egoism or vanity in his aspiration, he thought through everything in advance and carried out his plans to the end.
    Once again, sure there are many plot holes and inconsistencies in his plan, but that's a comics story, and by the standards of comics he is awesome.

    • @tonyb7615
      @tonyb7615 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @wakkadakka9192
      @wakkadakka9192 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tonyb7615 Nah the Thanos plan was just dumb even by comics standards. Halving the population won't solve anything at all.
      Ozymandias plan was much simpler and actually had a logic in it. People are stupid, and scared people are even stupider. If people, in their stupidity and fear, are ready to destroy the entire planet - stop them by frightening them with something even more terrible is a completely logical solution. Like for example if today an Alien invasion will happen and creepy monsters will start attacking whole world - such conflicts like russia-ukraine or israel-palestine will immidiatly stop.
      The easiest way to unite people is to create a great threat for them, sometimes even just the illusion of a threat is enough. This is not some fictitious idea, this is a very real and effective method that has been used by many rulers around the world for thousands of years. And they still use it today.

    Watchmen is a twelve-issue comic book limited series created by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, and John Higgins, published by DC Comics in 1986 and 1987. Watchmen focuses on six main characters: the Comedian, Doctor Manhattan, the Nite Owl, Ozymandias, Rorschach, and the Silk Spectre. These characters were originally based on the Mighty Crusaders[1] and then reworked in an unsolicited proposal to fit superhero properties DC had acquired from Charlton Comics in the early 1980s. Moore later based the team’s predecessors, the Minutemen, on the Mighty Crusaders. Since the publisher planned to integrate Charlton's superheroes into the main DC Universe and the script would have made many of them unusable for future stories, series writer Alan Moore eventually agreed to create original characters.

    They aren't really knockoffs of other superheroes they are just their own thing, they are in another world in the sense of there are comics and books that these come from. They are their own story.Also If you didn't know this is Zack Snyder who did this. You probably can tell someone from the color scheme and the feel of it and the action. He is the same one who did Batman vs Superman and man of steel. He's an awesome director. I really wish they let him keep the DC universe. I think some of the storytelling could have got better but he knows how to make it look right.

    It’s been established in the comics that Dr. Manhattan is more powerful than Superman.
    But, you asked which was better. I think Superman is the “better superhero”. Superman was the first superhero, and being good and helpful is part of his core character.

    You gotta see the watchmen as each, excluding dr Manhattan, having a super serum like captain America. The majority of them from that universe don’t have outrageous powers like the hulk or Thor. But they are very different from normal humans. Most have superior strength and speed as opposed to humans. Ozymandias was born with the strength, speed, and also being blessed with a higher brain power than anyone else.

    @goatkiller666 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    1) According to the story itself, Dr. Manhattan is the only person who’s got real powers. Ozymandius MIGHT qualify, with his catch a bullet trick. Everyone else is just a human in a mask, to hide their identity. Owl man is sort of vaguely like Batman, ‘cause he’s got money for gadgets. (And in an alternate universe, where everyone is evil, Bruce Wayne is evil Owlman, not Batman. But that’s just a coincidence.)
    Though, after the movie, which was based on the comic, DC did buy the rights to Watchmen. Dr. Manhattan shows up in the DC universe and straight up ruins every super-hero and supervillain, AT THE SAME TIME. He keeps time traveling, changing stuff, sees how that affects the future, time travels again, changes something else…. It was brutal. Dr. Manhattan cane take out like… ALL the gods… at once… and be bored doing it.

    It's weird because they tried to distill the entire comic series into one movie. Imagine how disjointed the Avenger's movie would be if they tried to condense the Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, The Avengers, Ultron, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame movies into a single movie that was less than three hours long.

    I'll point out something no one ever seems to understand. Rorschach's words coming from a journal as reported on by a less than major news source is not the same as if he lived and the words came from his own mouth, a hero. It's bitersweet because in his end scene, he knows this, and he knows ozmandias still wins. The truth will be just another conspiracy, and he went down fighting and doing the best he could, but in the end it amounts to nothing. Which is how he feels his life turned out, grasping at straws to fight a never ending war against an unwinnable opponent. Crime. His life fighting the good fight meant nothing, when people willing to do great evil and claim its for the best still win. It invalidates his whole being.
