there are some breaks and exceptions in this progression.
plenty of ranged users still play w/o shift lock, gives a bit more range of motion while stationary (also allows you to have high cam sensitivity without it screwing your aim, also allows for a ranger to be more situationally aware.)
and, then, there's the fists mains. they don't use the range at ALL, and get their kills off either good player movement, or parrying alone. (these types of players are few and far between, but terrifying to see.)

I actually discovered shiftlock at my first time playing. It was basically a reflex for me to seek shiftlock in every game

Honestly I think stage 1-3 is often brought from the experience of light/ heavy weapons, meaning that many people would skip those 3 staring stages.
Started with Light, gets called for annoying and spammer.
Switched to Heavy knowing it's less annoying and DS is overpowered.
Getting killed by bow users thinking it was broken, switched to ranged.
After trying it you realized how terrible you are at it, Repeat.

you might have missed that one guy with the crossbow who somehow has better stamina management than you do(even though bows decrease your stamina, i know you still run towards them but still) and sometimes will end you before you could reach the said person/die to a slight miscalculation with parry/stamina management at the "newly obtained crossbow" stage
they're incredibly annoying to fight against and the said person will hit 60% of the shots(and most hits with the projectile will be 6 studs away from the actual target at most)

I remember fighting a guy with a tag "lukas". Man had longbow. Insane dude as he not only had insane aim, like he has sharingan or simply aimbot, but also could quickswitch to fists and instantly parry. Bad thing about him was ignorance, bcs he was always dancing somewhere in the corner and used parrying or his aim to kill anyone running towards him. I threw molotov and frag and watched him fry

You start losing hair.. your frustration people having extended parry frames from FPS drops is tearing at your soul and mind.. You wish you could just beat everyone, with a single click. It's not that easy, you tell yourself. Everyone has to work for what they want. You continue to grow sleep-deprived, socially isolated and you've forgotten what the word "grass" means. All you know is "shoot, aim, shoot, aim, shoot, aim." The same repeated cycle is how you obtain these virtual wins in a pixelated video game. You think you're cool, being able to abuse crossbow hitboxes and running, spamming arrows until your opponent dies. Patch of hair after patch of hair falls. You can't contain your anger when your opponent has mastered sliding and you haven't. With 1 patch of hair left, you know you will rip it out of anger if you die again from this cause. Your life tears at you. Deprived of sunlight, you have become pale as a smoke bomb in the game you have been playing for 108 hours straight. Your body is adapting to this hunger, and you are becoming skinny and losing meat. You weigh way less, you guess. But you can't check, you have to keep playing combat warriors. You have gotten used to the smell of old, sweaty, disgusting garbage odor coming from you. Showers are not going to get me wins, you tell yourself. You know the right thing to do is to live your life normally. You decide against it. Weeks later, exactly 42 seconds of sleep each day at 3:02 AM, you think this is good for your body. You lock chains on your door and know you can survive without hunger for 3 weeks straight. You have a water bottle in your room, so thirst shouldn't be a problem, right? You continue to play, winning a lot, very focused on your game and nothing else. Everything is how it should be. You win, you get credits. You rip tiny bits of hair out, trying to minimize the anger, after getting 10 commons and only 1 legendary from enchant crates. But the legendary is green fire. How ugly, you tell yourself. And you realize all your work has gone to this sewer rat fire cosmetic. Sewer rats have gotten into your mind after you smell yourself. You forget to drink and you are suffering from dehydration. Hunger is scratching at your mind but you know you have to ignore it. It's nothing much, you tell yourself. Eventually the dehydration gets worse and worse. You reach for your water bottle only for your fingers to automatically press space to fast respawn. You can't drink, you're in a game. Once you die, you can drink. Thats what you tell yourself. You think that's a fine idea. Until you don't die. You seem to get the hang of sliding and know you're unkillable in the sense of not being able to be caught. You suffer from extreme dehydration and end up dead in your room, despite your fingers still playing to obtain more credits. Even after death, your extreme will continues on.

A stratagy that has worked for me and is amazing to pull off is to bait someone into swinging at you so you can parry with fists, then crossbow headshot them, i prefer up close crossplay bc i can use the headshot one shot combo
A method I use against ranged users so first get chainsaw then pretend your're going hit them then cancel your swing after they parry damage them then throw a slow splash to pervent them from running away then before their parry resets hit them again and kill them or parry bait them again
most ranged mains start as light mains
if you get to stage 9 - 10 bow, then your probably one of the best players because bow has a super high learning curve, requires skills with aim, prediction, parries, baits, movement, and more, and also alot of determination

I used to focus on heavy weapons and Ive gotten pretty pro at it and im level 100, but im starting to consider longbow because they give you really good damage and so far almost every ranged user ive met (lv 23) has beaten me/ outrun me and thus killed me.

in stage 3 we can see the natural Low level light user. He shows anger to even his own kind by attacking one when they got parried.

Stage 7 shouldnt be called depression,instead it should be burnout and it happens in all games, no exceptions
You don’t really need 11-15 hours to snipe, or to start using fists. I had already mastered parrying, fists, and shiftlock by the time I started using a ranged because of a couple hours on Morten metallum.
Same, I’m old player from mortem metallum (mobile), after combat warriors mobile release, I became a decent good player after 3 hours playtime hunting people with a bat
I don’t think you can ever master parrying, unless by that u mean u can literally parry and tell when someone swings off animation or sound (I can’t). Its mostly mind games

You forgot the stage where a player uses the heavy bow and wears Revolutionary war militia men avatar that shoots very long shots and every time they shoot 1 or 2 shots from a far location they move to a different place quickly to harass you over and over and over until you get annoyed and then whenever you find their hiding spot they’re either in a different hiding spot already or they headshot you when you come close
Remember, light and heavy should engage in battle close, if ur a ranged fan like me but still can’t get 1? My guess is to be somewhere where there is least likely enemies spawning and less occupied areas

Using a ranged weapon actually helped me become good at parrying because it's technically a Nesisity to party with one

Note before we begin: This is from a level 133 with 200+ hours of playtime.
Stage 1: Fairly accurate except for playtime.
Stage 2: Playtime is awful, nobody would take 11 hours to get to stage 2, the other stuff is fairly accurate.
Stage 3: You're telling me it took 15 hours of playtime to unlock crossbow? "Have discovered shift lock" "Learned how to parry"
Just no, It would NOT take 15 hours to learn about the F key, especially shift lock.
Stage 4: 24-30 hours? A 6 hour window to decide between cb and lb, that's awfully long.
"Tries both longbow and crossbow to see which they prefer" That's accurate.
"Switches bows every so often" No. That just doesn't happen ever. They're two completely different things, if i swapped to cb i would have the aim and dodging/movement skills of a fucking newborn baby.
Stage 5: 30-50 hours? thats pretty damn long for one stage, wait what do you mean there's a 200 hour gap between 9 and 10?

Stage 6: Aren't competent (stage 5) and good player (stage 6) basically the same thing?

Your kinda wrong in the stage 0 unlocking bows needs 2 tools that are powerful, So they already have experience in Movement and parry

Ive played for 4 hours, i parry, i use shiftlock, i use heavy weapons and im lvl 25. Is that good or nah?
My play style is just weird compared to this. I use mainly fists, but if I land a parry I do a quick headshot and finish them off. Rarely use it for long range.

Yeah it was fun seeing the skilled player hit expert shots (they shot 5 meters away from me and it was somehow a headshot)
The second my friend got the long bow and crossbow he was no-scoping people and headshotting AND he was killing hackers like it was the easiest thing he has done.

Im def in stage 8, been using crossbow ever since i got it, i like it and i still need to improve after hundreds of hours. (might be in stage 6 but idk, i pop off 40 percent of the time)
You should make stage 5 inovation where they use meme strats or challenge themselves before depression

when i 1v1 a less experience range main they just go with the fist after missing a few shots only to get hit by the crossbow or parried
i'm on stage 2 rn and i already feel like qutting ranged, i think i'll just go back to heavy
so far i have unlocked and mastered most heavy weapons, my goal now is to master and unlock all light weapons, wish me luck!

I’ve played like 9 full rounds and left halfway through 4 so that’s about 5 hours 30 minutes probably and Think I skipped a few stages because I’m probably around stage 6
