I agree, I think retailers and manufacturers are going to round up their prices. I think sales tax will also round up in price. I'm not sure what the yearly impact of this would be... but it could be significant when you think about a trip to the grocery store once a week.
It would have to be a universal agreement across the US to round up or down. Hard to just price things accordingly due to tax rates ending in decimals.
I think all items would be rounded up to the nearest nickel (I don't think anyone would ever round down). I think sales tax would also round up to the nearest nickel. I don't know what the yearly impact of that would be on an average family... but when I think about weekly trips to the grocery store, adding a few cents to each item in your cart could actually be pretty significant.

They want us to have a barcode 🐑 no gold, no silver, no copper
I dunno, that’s a slippery slope that eventually winds up into the cashless society cesspool.
I wonder if Musk is an idiot or an evil

The copper clad zinc pennies cost $0.03, however the pre 1982 solid copper pennies are worth $0.05-10 depending on the grade!
This is the first time that the Gutfeld! show has disappointed me 😢 Some of us still prefer cash and coins. Not that long ago, the internet went down in the entire southeast and people lost their minds because no internet =no card transactions.
Agree !!!
This is not a first time for me, Kat really get on my nerve, she "wrote" a book, really who is buying it. I can write a book too, but since I am not on fox, nobody wil buy it
Practice shots 4 the future.
Dude where are you people in this comment section pulling that from? They are advocating getting rid of the penny, not cash altogether.
Imagine if the internet went down worldwide. And then the power grid
Must be great to get these Fox News salaries, I pick up a penny, when I see one on the ground, and also, getting rid of change is the first step to end cash which will mean total government control of what you can or cannot buy. I lost some respect for you Greg Gutfeld , Kat Timpf and Tyrus maybe you should think about it a little bit more what the consequences are, but rich people like you are probably just keep on laughing at the rest of us.
Well said.

I guess I’m weird that I still use cash and coins… but that also means they will have to adjust pricing and sales taxes so when we shop it doesn’t give us a total of $30.01
Me too.
No it's not odd, it's a shame people want a barcode not gold, silver, or copper money
@@annebreitrick6116you too dmfc correct?
Canada actually demonetized pennies several years ago. Prices still include cents. If you are paying cash 1 and 2 cents the price rounds down and 3, 4, 5 cents the price rounds up. Paying by card however nothing changes.
I agree, I think retailers and manufacturers are going to round up their prices. I think sales tax will also round up in price. I'm not sure what the yearly impact of this would be... but it could be significant when you think about a trip to the grocery store once a week.
Wow! DOGE will be cutting $2 Trillion from the Federal Budget 1 penny at a time! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@ Musk is learning fast that he won't be able to impact congressional spending. He was sent down the road to treasury to look at the coin situation.
You need pennies to make proper change when buying things at the store.
Not if the store priced everything $0.25
@@PInk77W1Or even $0.10.

I had an entire 5 gallon glass water bottle full of pennies. When I moved it took 2 ppl to move it into my truck after I reinforced it with layers of duct tape. Unfortunately, the bottom blew out in the truck bed. People were grabbing them up by the handful and they were sloshing around for days and even got under the bed liner.
Tailgates are NOT penny proof so anyone driving behind me could be subjected to a shower of them every time there was a bump in the road.
JUST CHANGE THE VALUE OF A PENNY FROM 0.01$ TO 0.03$
AND POOF THE PENNY HAS VALUE AGAIN 😂🇺🇸🐘🗽🇺🇸🐘🗽🇺🇸
The "cost" of the penny is irrelevant. It's not like they get consumed and disappear.

Some pennies are worth a lot of money.
They'll be worth even more if we stop making them.
Actually copper has significant antibiotic properties and pennies tend to be relatively germ-free.
they are mostly zinc. only copper coated now
that is misleading. raw copper is. but a penny is so tarnished that those properties are under all that tarnish.

I like pennies. Why can't we use something else to make them so it's more efficient?
The longer I live, the more of what I knew is gone.
I recently had some mishap doing yard work that left a minor laceration on one finger. As it was healing, it started to experience increasing inflammation. Swollen, sore, pink, difficult to bend the finger. I taped pennies to either side of the finger at the inflammation point just after I started my day at work, and by 5 pm the swelling was gone and the finger could flex normally again. That's worth a lot more than the three cents it took to make that penny.
BESIDES -- a penny is not a single-use cent. It is one cent when I spend it, it becomes change for somebody else who spends it as another cent, and so on and so on, becoming of greater accumulated value with each purchase. I still frequently find pennies from the 1960s in my change. Imagine how many dollars of use they have probably accomplished!
_The longer I live, the more of what I knew is gone._
I think that's true of every generation.
If cents were printed on cardboard, they'd still cost about the same. The main cost is the employee.
@merriemisfit8406 You make a good point that no one else is considering. It may cost 3 cents to make one penny, but that single penny will be used as once cent in many transactions.

You all never had to roll up pennies in order to get food, that why I always pick them up & say a penny from heaven.
Throughout the year, I save change and singles. After Thanksgiving, I roll change and take it to a store that has a sign saying they need change and singles and I'll swap them out.
