Hi, great work & love your honesty regarding your affiliation with train line. Is it possible to book multi cities on train line? & if so how? Thank you & keep up the great work
@@ussoccerfc4064 hi there, when it comes to high-speed train tickets in Spain, you always buy individual legs (unless the company offers a ticket with a connection involved). But you cannot buy different trips at the same time. All the best!
This is what informative excellence is all about! Thank you so very much! I will definitely follow your valuable information and can't wait to see at least some of Spain's wonders!
First step: Open an excel spreadshit 3 months ahead of the desired date Step two: Start writting down the prices of the trains you are interested. 3: Next day check renfe page again to ser how prices changed, draw a graph and try to detect the minimum to know when to buy Thank you renfe, you made it imposible to travel by train for a reasonable price in Spain
Thank you so much Tony! Your videos are incredibly helpful, useful and well done! My wife and I are very hopeful to relocate from Atlanta to Valencia very soon. May God bless your channel in the name of Yeshua🙏🏽🙋🏽♂️🙋🏻♀️❤👏🏽
Thank you for your kind words, Cory. In case you didn't see, we just published a video on Valencia last Sunday: th-cam.com/video/64jGgxrBX50/w-d-xo.html All the best!
Many thanks for your great videos! Your information on Trainline was spot on and we could get it to work when Renfe's site kept failing us. We did go to Iryo's site to arrange a trip with a meal - something we could not get done on Trainline. We did have bit of a scare when our Renfe from Zaragoza was cancelled at the last minute, but that we made it back to Madrid after a bit of chaos at the station. Keep up the informative videos - they are the clearest and most informative of all the ones I viewed before our trip.
Thank you, Tony. I wasn’t aware of this website. Their site is more user friendly! It took several tries on Renfe’s site to purchase my ticket. I will be using the train line site for my next travel.
Excellent! As well as being much more user friendly, the Trainline allows you to buy tickets for all the high-speed train operators, not just Renfe. All the best!
Thank you Tony for the amazing videos. I just purchased two Renfe train tickets from Madrid to Barcelona using your trainline link and thanks to you, it was very simple and easy, as you explained the process so wonderfully. Now I have to watch your other videos as we are flying into Madrid for 3 nights, then Barcelona 3 nights and then an amazing 19 cruise on MSC Seaview from Barcelona to Rio, Brazil starting November 16. Your other videos will tell us what to see, where to stay and what to expect in Spain. Once again, thank you for such informative and useful videos.
Great to hear you had a smooth experience at the Trainline. Just in case you haven't seen it, here's a video on how to reach the cruise terminal in Barcelona: th-cam.com/video/eRbNEb4xpg0/w-d-xo.html All the best!
I love your videos and watched at least 20 of them over the last 2 weeks! Thank you for being genuine and transparent on the travel experience. Im planning to travel from Barcelona to Madrid with large luggages. I wonder which train operator should i consider as the most affordable option?
Thank you! Be aware none of the train operators will allow you to travel with lots of luggage. Buy whichever offers the best deal for you, you will have to check the dates for your trip.
Great how to on Spanish trains! I wish I had seen this a few years ago when I spent my first summer in Spain. It can be confusing for someone who isn't familiar with train travel.
Thanks Carol. We have published other videos you might find useful, such as this step by step guide on high-speed train travel th-cam.com/video/sSiIRby2RGU/w-d-xo.html
Again such clear instructions and good advice. Can you use this system for booking at shorter notice - say just a day before, and if I have a Eurail card can I book this way?
Thanks, Pamela. From what our followers tell us, booking high-speed train tickets in Spain with Eurail is a bit of a nightmare. You can only do it at the stations. On our video with tips on the high-speed train in Spain we explain why booking your tickets last-minute is a bad idea: th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html All the best.
Hi Tony. Your video was so helpful. I booked my wife and my train tickets, Barcelona to Madrid, in about 10 minutes. Trainline's web site was much more user friendly then Renfe. We are so excited to visit Spain. Next step is finding hotels in both cities. If you have video's on that topic, provide a link. Thank you. I will be viewing more of your channel.
Hello Rob, glad to hear you experience with the Trainline was positive. We recommend the website precisely because it is a million miles more user friendly than Renfe's, as you have discovered. We have quite a few videos on Barcelona and Madrid: - all the videos on Barcelona: th-cam.com/play/PLWH9E2sQGItraqaaJ6RsAzJxlDo2_SEiX.html - all the videos on Madrid: th-cam.com/play/PLWH9E2sQGItr9vAqqoZTXoslMhXfc9r-M.html All the best!
Tony, thanks for your very informative videos. Besides your great advice I also appreciate when you acknowledge when you "promote" companies - a refreshing approach on the web. I have been to Spain twice in the past 5 years and am know helping my daughter plan her first visit. Your recommendations and warnings are a great help - I send her links to the ones applicable to her plans. BTW, any plans for some comments about Seville.
Thanks, Rick. In the specific case of the Trainline, we were users of the platform before we began promoting it as an answer to the problems posed by Renfe's website. With the arrival of other high-speed companies, the Trainline became an essential tool. We made sure the price paid at the Trainline would be the same as elsewhere. We've decided against recommending websites, even if we could make money out of it, when we felt they didn't offer a good deal to our followers. As for Seville, we just published a new video on the city here: th-cam.com/video/BXocHk2sO3M/w-d-xo.html All the best!
Is there a train line that is better than another? I also notice there are different stations in Barcelona or Seville. Is there a difference? Your channel has been a blessing. Thank you Tony!
There are differences between services indeed. We have videos on all of them, you will see them listed on this video th-cam.com/video/sSiIRby2RGU/w-d-xo.html There is just the one station for high-speed trains in Barcelona and Seville. All the best!
Hola tony.
Thanks Tony, for your clear and sensible advice. I worried when I couldn't buy my train tickets at first, but I followed your advice, checked back every now and then, and now I have them all booked. (Although the luggage thing is a little unclear, they seem to be suggesting we can each take on 3 pieces, including a larger bag - Renfe and Iryo - which contradicts your information ... I will check their sites again, thanks to your warning!). Your videos are SO informative - I feel like it's a course called Spain 101! One question - we will be in Granada for 4 nights - do you recommend staying in Ronda or Granada?
Hola, we feel the information on luggage allowance doesn't contradict our information, check out our videos on AVE th-cam.com/video/boVV8YQbRx0/w-d-xo.html and Iryo th-cam.com/video/t83SR1tkILM/w-d-xo.html where that question is clearly laid out. Each company has different rules. As for Ronda or Granada, Granada, no doubt. All the best!
Hola Jolene. Todo el mundo quiere ir a Toledo al principio del día. Si dejas la compra para el día del viaje, además de pagar un suplemento por comprar los billetes en taquilla, puede que no queden asientos en los primeros trenes del día. Un saludo.
Hello Tony! Thanks for the videos about Renfe trains. Very useful information. I been trying to use Renfe and Trainline websites to purrchase tickets between Madria and Santiago de Compostela next April 2023 around Easter. As of December 21st 2022 the websites will not allow a ticket purchase. I am wondering if it will not work because 15 weeks in advance is too far into the future? Have you taken this route yourself recently, and is it much in demand around Easter time?
Hello Gabe, many thanks for your words. In 99% of the cases you don't find tickets for sale for a specific route it is because they haven't been introduced in the system yet. We haven't taken that route, but you can be certain demand around Easter will be very high. All the best.
Hi! I just found your channel, thank you! We will be traveling Spain in the fall of 2022 and will need to arrange three moves during our stay: Valencia-Malaga, then Malaga-Alicante and finally Alicante-Barcelona. Would you be so kind to recommend what our best ways of transportation be between those cities? Thank you!
Hello there and welcome to the channel. Our choice for those trips would be the high-speed train, but as there are no direct services between Valencia and Málaga and Málaga and Alicante, you will have to change trains in Madrid. As for Alicante-Barcelona, you will have to compare prices of air and train travel. There are no high-speed trains on the route. All the best!
Hi Tony, We really enjoy all your videos and they are super detail and very useful. We tried to use the Trainline link to book train tickets to from Seville to Granada on 31st Jan 2024, but it was not available. Did we book too early or we miss out any details? Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.
Our pleasure! If the ticket class allows it, you can select your own seat. Otherwise, it will be assigned by the system. Very much like airlines work these days.
Muchas gracias por el video, muy informativo. Que tan seguro es viajar en tren hoy en día, me refiero al elemento que monta, no a los trenes en si.. tienen guardia, policia, etc?
I ended purchasing my AVE tickets through trainline because Renfe website kept stalling on the payment page. I read that they often have trouble with foreign credit cards. I live in the US and Trainline prices are a bit higher (it's not a separate processing fee), but it was much easier to navigate.
Hi Teresa, we've never paid any extra fees when purchasing tickets at the Trainline (the reason why we recommend it), but as you point out it might be a regional thing. In terms of easy of use, it's like day and night when you compared it to the Renfe website. On top of that, with the Trainline you can research tickets for other high-speed operators too.
I had the same issue with Renfe not accepting my credit card payment. I saw that other people mentioned using PayPal, and I was able to make the purchase that way, using the same credit card as payment for PayPal purchases.
Hi Tony. Thank you for your detailed explanation and analysis. We try to book tickets of high speed train on trainline from Barcelona to Granada in December 2024 and also tickets from Serville to Madrid. However, it shows that no ticket is available. Are they sold out so soon or they just have not yet put the tickets out for booking yet?
Hi Tony and thank you for the very informative video. I will be traveling to Spain in a few weeks and plan on visiting multiple cities that require use of high speed trains. Do you recommend buying these fares early or can I wait to purchase them a day or so in advance?
Hi Christina, on our video with tips on the high-speed train in Spain we explain why booking your tickets last-minute is a bad idea: th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html All the best.
I'm planning my first trip to Spain this February, and your videos have been a great help. Loving the content! One issue I'm having is that Trainline does not appear to be showing any tickets for Iryo or Ouigo - its only showing tickets for Renfe, AVE, and AVLO. Even for known routes/dates/times where Iryo and Ougio show tickets on their sites, there is nothing showing on Trainline. Any ideas why that might be?
This is very interesting. It appears that search results are different depending on the country you are accessing the Trainline website from. When I connect to a server in Spain via VPN, I am able to see Iryo and Ouigo appear in the results. When I perform the same search connecting directly from the USA, then I no longer see Iryo and Ouigo in the results. I have not done extensive testing, but I wonder if this is true when searching from other countries as well.
@@BarbegaziPM many thanks for taking the time to check this one out. I suspected it could be regional filter, but didn't have time to confirm it. Don't know why that is happening and I hope it will be fixed soon, as the Trainline is a very helpful tool. In the meantime, check the company's own websites.
Hi TOny!! Love your videos. I'm learning a lot! :) Will visit Spain this December and will follow all your tips. Been watching almost all that is in your channel :) Keep it up :) Btw, is food/snacks allowed in all the trains? Are we allowed to buy in some shops them bring it inside the train and eat it there? THank you!!
Thank you so much for your detailed explanation and link provided in this video. I am thinking about going to Girona at the end of March from Barcelona, however when I used the trainline, the 1st train out of Barcelona is after 10am and after? Do they not run earlier trains?
Hi Tony. Thank you so much for your videos. You have been our exclusive source of information for planning our first trip to Spain. I would like to ask you what does "DNI" and "NIE" document types stand for when trying to purchase a ticket. We are EU cirltizens, so we travel with national ID and not a passport. So I don't know what to choose and Google search did not come up with any results. Thank you in advance.
Hi Panos, great to hear we are being helpful. DNI and NIE are official Spanish ID documents. If you don't have a passport number, write down the number of your national ID card in the place reserved for the passport. The company just wants the number to make sure you are the person using the ticket on the day of travel. It's not as tight a control as with airlines. All the best!
Hola Tony! I'm planning a trip to Spain in the fall and came across your videos. So thankful for all the great information!! A question about picking seats on Renfe trains? For the fairs where you can choose your seat in advance, is it obvious which seats face forward and which face backwards?
Hi there, it's been such a long time since the last time we paid to choose our seat that we don't really know what the current seat selection page looks like. But we suspect you should be able to see the way the train goes so you can make your choices accordingly. Give it a go!
We live in the USA. We’re leaving Granada to Sevilla November 16. Looks like there’s no direct route, so we have to go back to Cordoba get another ticket to Sevilla? We never heard of Trainline, So you feel this is trustworthy? How far in advance should we get tickets when we are there? We are traveling all through Spain. Thank you for your help. Wonderful information.
Hi JoAnne. If we didn't feel the Trainline was a trustworthy site, we wouldn't have recorded a video recommending it. As explained on the video, it is the website we've used to buy high-speed train tickets for the last ten years. On the following video we talk about the importance of buying your tickets as early as possible: th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html There are direct trains between Granada and Seville, but quite likely they haven't been introduced in the system yet. All the best!
Hi Tony! Your video is so helpful. We will be travelling from Malaga to Madrid and we thought of taking the bus. However we read not so good reviews about the buses. Is it better to travel with the train instead? We find it pricey for a 2.5 hours trip. What can you advice? Gracias 😊
Hi Lea, the high-speed train is always a far superior alternative to the bus. But to get the best fares, you need to book as long in advance as possible, otherwise you will only get the most expensive rates. If the train is too expensive, you can face the bus, it's not as grueling as it might sound. All the best!
Hi Tony, the video was so helpful but which is better to travel from Barcelona to Córdoba first or to Granada… my plan is to travel from Barcelona to visit the Andalusia cities : Cordoba, Seville, and Granada then back to Barcelona, please advice me. Thanks!
Thanks for the video! Is this useful for booking trains from Portugal to Spain and within Portugal itself? Also how far in advance do you recommend purchasing tickets?
Except for a regional train in the north, there are no direct trains going from Spain to Portugal. The tool is not useful for Portuguese trains. We recommend you purchase your tickets as far in advance as possible, see our advice on this video: th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html
Tony, in your demo, you said to just choose the generic city of Barcelona and Valencia, and then the ticket you showed for purchase, had what appears to be actual train stations for each city. When I buy my tickets from Barcelona to Valencia, shouldn’t I be concerned with which station or should I pick generic like you did in the demo and just use the train station that is given?
Hi, on the video we talk about high-speed trains. The train connecting Barcelona and Valencia is not a high-speed one. You can choose Barcelona Sants and don't bother about Valencia, as the train only operates in just the one station there.
Great useful video.. ! Thank you Tony. We try to reserve via your Trainline link 2 tickets of night train for 07 May 2024 from Santiago de Compostela to Madrid. But no tickets available. Any suggestion please.
Hi Tony, Thanks for your (as always) very informative video. We are planning to stay in Madrid around Gran Via and go for a day trip to Avila by train. Is it correct that I need to buy 1. the Metro ticked for the Gran Via Principe Pio route and 2. the Renfe ticket for the Principe Pio Avila Station route? Thanks
Great and informative videos! I’m traveling to Spain with some friends we will be traveling through Andalusia from Madrid for a little over two weeks. I was wondering if we need to purchase our train tickets in advance or would it be OK to get them while we were there? We would like to be able to stay in a town a little longer is we like it rather than being on a definite schedule. What do you suggest?
Hi Tony, I just recently discovered your TH-cam videos. They are very helpful and informative. Thank you. I am planning a trip to Spain in early October and I need your suggestions. I would like to take the train from Madrid to Sarria on October 10, 2022(M0nday). I am staying at Ibis Madrid Calle 30. I will be on a camino pilgrimage from October 11-16 (already reserved). Also, I need your recommendation for a train from Santiago to Madrid on October 17, 2022 Monday. My hotel is Room007 in Madrid. Is that far from the train station? Thank you very much for your kind attention. Dean
Hello Dean, many thanks for your words. At the Trainline website you can check train schedules. RENFE has been acting strangely lately and there are quite a few trains not added to the system yet. If you don't see any trains, try again a few days later. The train to Sarria departs from Chamartin station. There are several Room007 hotels in Madrid, we would need to know the specific address. All the best.
Hi Tony, we love your videos, we will be traveling all around Andalusia at the end of September. If you live in that area can we meet you and thank you in person?
Great video. I have purchased some tickets via train line but have never travelled by train before. Do the carriages have their number clearly stated on the outside? I dread getting on the wrong carriage.
Thank you. Here's our step-by-step guide on a high-speed train trip: th-cam.com/video/sSiIRby2RGU/w-d-xo.html It should answer your question and many others you might have, too.
Hello Tony, how are you? I enjoyed watching the video on how to purchase tickets using The Trainline. One question: If the seat number allocated to you is shown, do the Spanish railway companies offer an option for you to change the seat number?
Hi, Tony! We love your TH-cam channel and had been learning a lot from it. I have a question regarding transport from Sevilla to Ronda for a day trip. We don't want to drive so we are wondering if it is easy to take a bus or train from Sevilla to Ronda. If not, we are thinking of going on a short tour with a tour company but that will be more expensive. Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi Emily, there are no high speed trains from Seville to Ronda. Your best choice would be a bus with Damas damas-sa.es It takes more than two hours to go, two hours to come back.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you very much. Also, thanks for the tip regarding Trainline. I used the above link and it was so much better than the Renfe website!
Hi Tony, I have one trip from Seville to Granada in May that is causing me a bit of trouble (when all the other train trips around it seem okay). Trainline and Omio do not show any trains available for this route. Renfe shows a couple of options with a changeover in Córdoba. My earlier research suggested that there are some direct trains as well and if I look at the next couple of weeks, yes there are direct Seville-Granada trains shown in March but no later. Could it really just be that Renfe hasn't released this particular route yet for April and May when they are already up to May on other routes?
Hello, Tony! Thank you so much for all your helpful videos. I have a question. We need to go from Barcelona to Madrid. Do I just choose Madrid? Because they have all other Madrid locations that I can choose. Also , what’s the difference between standard and first class? Thank you so much!
Hi Gulya, simply choose Madrid. There is just the one railway station where high-speed trains coming from Barcelona arrive in Madrid, if you choose Madrid you can't get it wrong. Standard and first class depends on the company, but usually involves larger and more comfortable seats and a few other perks. All the best.
Thank you! Currently, there are no trains running from Madrid to Lisbon. Our advice is for you to take a quick flight between both cities. All the best!
I am coming to Spain after a Viking Cruise ending in Basel Switzerland. How do we train from Basel to Madrid ( where do I buy the ticket or combination of tickets)
Hello Tony! Your videos have been a great help in planning my upcoming visit to Spain and your content is very high quality. I have a question. Are you able to purchase passes through Trainline or just one way/round trip tickets? Our plans include travel on three days via high speed rail, Madrid to Seville, Seville to Cadiz, and Cadiz to Madrid with an afternoon stop in Cordoba. Will I have to buy a 3 day pass through Eurail?
Hello Suzanne, great to hear we are being helpful, thanks for your kind words! As far as we know, you cannot purchase passes through the Trainline. However, we don't think passes are such a good deal when it comes to train travel in Spain. The local train running from Seville to Cádiz, for instance, is not expensive at all, and you would be wasting a pass if you were to use it on that route. When it comes to high-speed trains in Spain, you cannot break the trips in halves, you will have to purchase a Cadiz to Córdoba ticket and then a Córdoba to Madrid. All the best.
Hi Tony, Thank you for the very informative video. we are planning to trip to spain in June of 2023( 1st week ) and i checked the trainline and Renfe site for tickets. i dont see any trains for the date i selected from Barcelona to Valencia. Am i checking too much in advance or are they already sold out ?
Hi Tony, thanks for the very useful information. I assume with all these companies (eg, Trainline, Renfe, etc.) that I must create an account in order to buy a ticket? Or is it possible to purchase a ticket as a 'guest' and not create a username and password?
It might be possible to buy as a guest with the train operators, but it's always wise to create an account. If you create an account at the Trainline, our recommendation, there is no need to go creating accounts with each train service.
Hi Tony, I'm searching for train tickets for Barcelona to Valencia travel on April 2023. It's only giving me 1 result which is Ouigo with duration of 7 hrs and 1 stop. But when I search for January 2023 it shows a lot of options. So it seems I cannot buy tickets too advanced. My question is : Is it ok to assume that I will see the same options and prices once we get near April ?
You are correct, those trains you are searching for haven't been added to the system yet. Keep checking as the opportunity to get the best fares arises as soon as the tickets enter the system. Difficult to tell whether you will see the same prices in April. All the best.
hey, love your videos, they’ve helped me plan a lot! I’m travelling from Barcelona to Valencia in mid august, is it still too early to book tickets now? I see some tickets are available, but not sure if there will be more options that come up closer to the date.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugali see, thanks for the quick reply! i’m also looking into going from lisbon to porto and see there are bus options and train options. the train seems to be about 3x as expensive, but is it worthwhile given the extra space or is the bus journey not too bad? based on time, the bus only takes 30min more.
Great video. How much time do we allow to get from the Madrid airport to Atocha station? Our flight lands at 8:45am, there is a train that departs for Barcelona at 10:30 and 11:30, can we make the 10:30am?
Hi Tony. Just found your Channel. Thanks for the great info. My friend and I plan to travel from Barcelona to Madrid late Sept. We plan to stop at some nice places along the way to Madrid. Would you be kind enough to suggest the best way and places to visit? We only have 3 days. Thank you. Cheers from Down Under.
Hi Elfleda, you could spend a couple of nights in Zaragoza, other than that, there are no major destinations or interest points along the way. You will need to buy a high-speed train from Barcelona to Zaragoza, and a second ticket from Zaragoza to Madrid. All the best!
Hello Tony, really enjoy your videos. I don't see the ability to purchase a Iryo ticket via trainline. Have the stopped selling Iryo tickets? I am looking to go between Madrid and Barcelona. Thanks.
Hello Lucien, we've purchased Iryo tickets through the Trainline recently and I've run a quick simulation and Iryo tickets appear in the search results. Could it be a temporary restriction to foreign markets? We don't know.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugalThanks for the quick response. Is there anyway to send me a screenshot of your results so that I can compare? Appreciate any assistance. I can see trains if I go directly to the Inyo website. Looking forward to my visit !!!
Hi Tony. Love the video. I tried using the link under the video. All the dates I enter for Nov and Dec say no tickets are available. I also checked to make sure that I had the correct station name for Madrid and Malaga. I am sure what I am doing wrong. Please help. Thank you!
Hi Karen, we've just checked for trains from Madrid to Málaga in November and found multiple results. However, trains for the second half of December haven't been introduced in the system yet. You will have to wait a bit more. All the best!
The Trainline website is great as I can purchase tickets internationally without a problem. The thing is I cannot find a direct ticket from Granada to Madrid on 17th Oct(I'm planning 2 months in advance). what is shown on Trainline is it needs to change to Cordoba or Malaga which takes 5-6hours for traveling. There are some direct trains on other days but not every day. Question is should I recheck it again may be a week later or just book a flight ticket?
Good morning Tony, so far, I can’t get an answer to my question. I am arriving to Barcelona August 29, and go to the Saints Train Station to continue going to Seville. Spend a couple of knights there and then take a train to Valencia for 3 knights then, return to Barcelona. Is the a round trip that would allowed to do that? I’ll really appreciate your answer.
My husband and I are travelling to Spain in Sept and Oct and will be using trains from Barcelona to Valencia, Valencia to Madrid and Madrid to Seville. We are travelling from Australia for 5 weeks total and I noticed Renfe have luggage limits, which I have never experienced on trains. Are they strict about the weight limit of 25kg or is it generally not enforced?
Up until the arrival of low-cost trains, limits were hardly every enforced. With AVLO and OUIGO, the control, in terms of pieces of luggages, is strict, not so much in terms of weight.
Hi Tony, my husband and I are traveling from San Sebastian to Barcelona, then onto Madrid and then Granada. We are staying 3 nights in each city. Our travel will take place over 7 days. We want to travel by train and are wondering if we should buy individual tickets for each destination or buy one ticket and break the journey with 3 stops. We are also wondering the best way to get from Granada to Lisbon
Hi Jacquie, you will have to buy individual tickets, you cannot break high-speed train trips. If you ask us about the Granada-Lisbon trip on a Q&A video, we will reply to your question there (as it is totally unrelated to the topic of this video).
Hi Tony, will the cercanias code be on the tickets purchased on trainline as we hope to be able to purchase a free ticket between Madrid Airport to Madrid atocha, for a ave train to cordoba. Tia for you feed back.
Hello, the tickets Trainline sells are the same tickets you get from the train company. The QR code on the ticket, if entitled to, will allow you to board the local train. You don't have to purchase any free tickets. See more details on this video: th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html All the best.
Yes, you can! We talk about the Combinado Cercanías on the more recent video with tips on the high-speed train: th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html
There are no high-speed trains from Madrid to Bilbao. If you leave us your question on a Q&A video, we'll give you all the details of alternative means of transport.
merci, again, I am trying to buy tickets for train between Malaga and Cordoba for the end of January 23 , the system says it s too early....how much time in advance ca we buy ticket ? thank you very much!
Hi, Jacinthe, you will have to wait a bit more. On our video with tips on the high-speed train in Spain th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html we explain how with RENFE is nearly impossible to tell when will the tickets be made available.
Hola Tony, I booked a return ticket yesterday at 11.20 & paid as on my Internet banking. I was busy all day and looked up my emails last night but no email from Renfe..alarm. How can I get my ticket as very concerned. Muchas gracias por tu ayuda. No tengo un ref numero...
You mention an email from Renfe so it is unclear to us whether you purchased the tickets from the Trainline or from Renfe. In any case, after purchase you always end up on a confirmation page with the ticket locator number. And if you created an account (always a wise thing to do), you can enter your account and find your tickets there.
A question, if you don't mind. I purchased tickets via thetrainline a couple of weeks ago for a trip in May. I didn't see these tickets available on Renfe but they were available on thetrainline. This was more than 90 days ahead of our scheduled train trips. Do you happen to know why thetrainline had the tickets and Renfe did not? I used loco2 to buy train tickets 5 years ago but I've seen many people recommend thetrainline so I used that this time. Has there ever been an issue with the tickets that thetrainline issues that you're aware of? I was reading on a forum that routes could get cancelled but I'm thinking the two routes that I purchased tickets for (Madrid to Granada and Malaga to Madrid) likely won't get cancelled. But what happens if they do get cancelled, since I purchase them way ahead of time? Many thanks for your videos, they are so helpful!!
We cannot answer to the first part of your question. Did you really purchase Renfe tickets, not tickets from other operator? There's never been an issue with Trainline tickets, that's why we recommend the site. They are specialist on train tickets. Don't know which forum you read but routes don't get cancelled any more than plane routes get cancelled. If you have the ticket, the route won't get cancelled. By the way, 90 days is not way ahead of time, way ahead of time is 6 or 7 months in advance, like we always try to do to get the best prices. All the best.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you so much! That definitely helps. Sometimes I worry for nothing. But one person recommended checking my ticket periodically before our trip and I will do that. You're right about cancellations in general. Thanks again for your reply, I appreciate it greatly!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal incidentally, I got these tickets early (about 120 days before travel) because I wanted to ensure we got first class tickets. We aren't rich but this might be our last trip abroad and we wanted to "live it up", hence first class. But yes, if you're looking for the cheapest tickets you likely won't want to buy them this far in advance(for others that might read these comments). 👍
Hi Tony, EUROMED train beteeen Barcelona and Valencia seems to be fastest (3 hr). But it does not show available for end of October on train line. The next fastest is 4 hr intercity. What kind of train is it? It’s also cheaper.
Hi, none of the trains you mention are high-speed trains, we haven't got them covered on the channel yet. On the missing trains, see th-cam.com/users/shortswmKDTtNRV8c
If I am going from Madrid to Toledo or Segovia do I usually need to book the tickets in advance or can I just buy it that day I plan on leaving? Also can we actually pick our own seats ?
All high-speed trains in Spain include a seat reservation. Whether you are able to choose the seat or not will depende on the rate you chose. The price of trains to Toledo hardly ever changes, but we would buy a few days in advance. In the case of Segovia, the earlier, the better.
Tony, If I buy a train ticket with reserved seats, what happens if the train is cancelled ? Is the ticket valid for the next train ? And what about the seats, do I just sit in any seats ?
Travel in high-speed trains in Spain is similar to flights. You only board with a reserved seat. You seat on the seat shown on your ticket. If the train is cancelled the company will have to put you on another train.

@@ussoccerfc4064 hi there, when it comes to high-speed train tickets in Spain, you always buy individual legs (unless the company offers a ticket with a connection involved). But you cannot buy different trips at the same time. All the best!

First step: Open an excel spreadshit 3 months ahead of the desired date
Step two: Start writting down the prices of the trains you are interested.
3: Next day check renfe page again to ser how prices changed, draw a graph and try to detect the minimum to know when to buy
Thank you renfe, you made it imposible to travel by train for a reasonable price in Spain

Great to hear you had a good experience at the Trainline. Hope your Renfe trip cancellation didn't wreak havoc on your trip.

Excellent tips in another very explanatory video. Really enjoyed! 👏
Thanks so much, Yara!

I love your videos and watched at least 20 of them over the last 2 weeks! Thank you for being genuine and transparent on the travel experience. Im planning to travel from Barcelona to Madrid with large luggages. I wonder which train operator should i consider as the most affordable option?

Again such clear instructions and good advice. Can you use this system for booking at shorter notice - say just a day before, and if I have a Eurail card can I book this way?
Thanks, Pamela. From what our followers tell us, booking high-speed train tickets in Spain with Eurail is a bit of a nightmare. You can only do it at the stations. Hi Tony. Your video was so helpful. I booked my wife and my train tickets, Barcelona to Madrid, in about 10 minutes. Trainline's web site was much more user friendly then Renfe.

I've watched 2 of your videos so far and haven't seen you discuss the different ticket classes (basic or comfort).
Four railway services, three different companies, each one has a video on the channel where classes are dealt with.

Excelente video!
@@michaelelkins3348 PayPal is a convenient solution in the case of those operators that accept it.

Thank you, very helpful.
You're welcome!
Hello, no idea why that is happening, we can see Ouigo and Iryo tickets here in our simulations.
THank you!!
Hello there! Food, snacks and drinks you bring with you are allowed onboard the trains. All the best!
Hi even I am travelling in December 😊
Thank you so much for your detailed explanation and link provided in this video. I am thinking about going to Girona at the end of March from Barcelona, however when I used the trainline, the 1st train out of Barcelona is after 10am and after? Do they not run earlier trains?
You will have to wait a little bit longer for all the trains to be added to the system. There should be earlier trains. All the best!
Thanks for getting back to me Tony 🙏 so looking forward to my trip to Barcelona!
Thank you so much!

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thank you so much! 😊
Hi Tony, the video was so helpful but which is better to travel from Barcelona to Córdoba first or to Granada… my plan is to travel from Barcelona to visit the Andalusia cities : Cordoba, Seville, and Granada then back to Barcelona, please advice me.
Thanks!
All combinations are valid, but from Granada you can fly to Barcelona saving a substantial amount of time.
Thank you!

Hi, see th-cam.com/users/shortswmKDTtNRV8c
Very clear and useful video. May I know which trainline to use for travel from Spain to Portugal? Eg. Madrid to Lisbon. thanks,
Thank you! Currently, there are no trains running from Madrid to Lisbon. Our advice is for you to take a quick flight between both cities. All the best!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thanks
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal I happened to find this on utube...th-cam.com/video/-tUbLnBivIw/w-d-xo.html
Tony, Trainline is realy a good page or App, they have always good offers. I used also works perfect.
Thanks Marco, the Trainline has always worked perfectly for us. All the best!
I am coming to Spain after a Viking Cruise ending in Basel Switzerland.
How do we train from Basel to Madrid ( where do I buy the ticket or combination of tickets)
There are no trains from Switzerland to Spain. You would have to change trains multiple times.
Hi there, check out this short: th-cam.com/users/shortswmKDTtNRV8c
Hi there, it's not too early to buy those tickets. Bear in mind there is no high-speed train between those two cities.

Thank you Mark, we discuss that issue on this video th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html We never leave less than 4 hours.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you. We;ll do that.
What is the best way to purchase tickets for the Royal Place in Madrid?
@@LucienFreeman it's not possible to share screenshots through TH-cam. You can buy the tickets directly from Iryo website.
Wait a bit longer, the timetables for October haven’t been introduced in the system yet.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you so much. Your channel is a big help and really well explained 😀😀😀
come back to update. finally, there are direct trains from Granada to Madrid on the Trainline website.

Hi Ray, the answer is quite clear, in Spain there are no round trips, you need to get a different ticket for each leg travelled on a high-speed train.
Thanks!
Our pleasure!
Hay trenes Premium de Madrid a Segovia, Toledo y Ávila? No los encontré en la página de Renfe.
Mari, ¿qué serían trenes Premium?
My husband and I are travelling to Spain in Sept and Oct and will be using trains from Barcelona to Valencia, Valencia to Madrid and Madrid to Seville. We are travelling from Australia for 5 weeks total and I noticed Renfe have luggage limits, which I have never experienced on trains. Are they strict about the weight limit of 25kg or is it generally not enforced?
Up until the arrival of low-cost trains, limits were hardly every enforced. With AVLO and OUIGO, the control, in terms of pieces of luggages, is strict, not so much in terms of weight.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you - so if I only have two pieces, the weight will not be a huge issue if it is a little over 25kgs?
@@angelpark007 we don’t think weight would be an issue, but bear in mind we don’t speak on behalf of Renfe, the train operator.
Thank you for your prompt reply. And thank you for your informative videos, they are very helpful.
Hola Tony! Are we able to use Combinados Cercanias to get to Madrid Atocha when traveling from Segovia to Madrid Chamartin?
Yes, you can! We talk about the Combinado Cercanías on the more recent video with tips on the high-speed train: th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html
What’s the best way to travel from Madrid to Bilbao?

merci, again, I am trying to buy tickets for train between Malaga and Cordoba for the end of January 23 , the system says it s too early....how much time in advance ca we buy ticket ? thank you very much!
Hi, Jacinthe, you will have to wait a bit more. On our video with tips on the high-speed train in Spain th-cam.com/video/QYvUn-sJxZ4/w-d-xo.html we explain how with RENFE is nearly impossible to tell when will the tickets be made available.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal many thanks I will try every week so I will get it!!! merci
Question, if there a Renfe pass or ticket that allows stop overs?
No, they don't exist.
Hi Tony,
EUROMED train beteeen Barcelona and Valencia seems to be fastest (3 hr).
Thanks Tony.
In the case of Segovia, the earlier, the better.
what is the best way to buy tickets for a bus trip between cities?
In most cases, directly on the company websites. Sometimes, only at the ticket office on the bus station.
Tony,
If I buy a train ticket with reserved seats, what happens if the train is cancelled ? Is the ticket valid for the next train ? And what about the seats, do I just sit in any seats ?
Travel in high-speed trains in Spain is similar to flights. You only board with a reserved seat. You seat on the seat shown on your ticket. If the train is cancelled the company will have to put you on another train.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thanks Tony
