    Hope you and the family are well mate. I have a the Savotta Torrakko 2.5, and the LJK 202 daypack which I use on a daily basis going to and back from work, along with 2 large sustainment pouches which I purchased at the back end of last year (I use them on my alice pack). The bags are a few years old now and still look new. A testament of the quality that you hear from everyone that owns any savotta products. I have always wanted a Jääkäri L, but I still love alice ❤️

      Thanks Will! We are doing good. Appreciate it. Hope you and yours are doing well also. The quality of the Savotta gear really is a step above and beyond. Reminds me of the quality you see in things from 100 years ago, with modern touches.
      ALICE is amazing.

    Great to see you brother! That's an amazing backpack .. you were able to fit major essentials and then some into it and I really like the hydration bladder setup. The utility harness was great too and by looking at how you were walking through the woods, it all looked comfortable and allowed you good mobility. A backpack like that is a one time investment!
    🤙🤝🤙

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey brother! Thank you. It really is quality made gear. The guys at Savotta packed a smaller pack with bricks and sent sailing off a trebuchet a couple hundred yards. The pack was barely scuffed up. Its refreshing to see things crafted with skill, that has longevity in mind, rather than the planned obsolescence we so often see today.
      Have a good one! 🤝

    Seems as though most of the survival/ bushcraft channels I watch, everybody uses a Savotta pack. They must be good to gain such universal acceptance.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know about everyone else, but to me, the quality is exceptional. The packs are designed for mountains and thick timber, carrying close to the body like a modern hiking/mountaineering pack, but with heavyweight, durable materials.

    I’ve had my eye on that mat for a couple of years now, going to have to splash out on it, also have the Strama whats’it knife, brilliant piece of kit. At the moment, I’ve been using the German army “elephant hide” tarp thing that’s about the same surface area as your mat, underneath whatever sleeping mat I’m using. They used to be really cheap, about a fiver, but now seem to be £12 or more now.☹️. Luckily I stocked up on them and have about 5 or 6, same with the Plasch Palatka.😁

      @@joshhoppring5051 Hey! Absolutely awesome pack. I have an ASKARE hip pack that I favor now over the LBE style belt setup. It can be worn underneath a small or medium size pack. On a larger pack like the L, it can be attached to the back of the pack or stashed inside. It’s a great option as both extra storage and as a lightweight EDC bag after you establish camp and remove the larger ruck. Cheers

I been able to pack my carinthia observer plus bivy, same sleeping pad that you have, carinthia tropen, hellsport fjellduken and bundeswehr groundsheet + food and clothes etc for about two days. I only use savotta 2 liter vertical pouches on both sides. Its somewhat comfortable when i have all of these packed in it, its full but still not too full.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  ปีที่แล้ว

    Thats a TON of GEAR, if you had weighed yourself with clothing and boots i wonder what the gross weight would be ? I find myself circumnavigating a site looking for misplaced tools, dropped pieces, or lost items prior to departure. Had to double-back more than once. Lumping it in as a base camp, then trimming the load for lighter day trip exploring, is sweet as well. Impressive carry, if i require a Sherpa, i will call you.....Cheers! 👍

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol It was bit excessive... I wanted to demo the capacity and more importantly, what a more long term load would look like.
      I used to play music. One of the bands I was in, the band leader would make us do “idiot checks” to insure no gear was left behind. It was a subtle term of expression that has stayed with me for 20 years. 😂
      As for carrying the gear, I do some basic lifting with kettlebells a couple times a week. Helps tremendously.

      It will hold it. Depends on the rest of the load and how it all packed as well. It is a great pack. Nearly waterproof and slim design makes a huge difference in heavy timber.

    How do you think- would 30l one with side pouches do just as well? i mean to put them on your belt pouches for hip support... hot a good pack for winter, and for summer need something like 40-45l total, instead of hauling half empty 60liter one.. :D and one crazy idea that seems almost impossible- to use it with a battle belt...

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the 30L Jääkäri M. It’s great for warmer weather overnights and day hikes. Between the L and the M, I prefer the L, as the carrying system is better. It works just fine with a belt rig underneath (or inside). As for side pouches, it depends on your environment, as they add width to the pack. In a dense forest, they are not ideal.

  • @DKFX1

    I'm a bit curious as to how you manage insects around this time in the bush. The tick season has begun and those damn critters are what keeps many people away from doing frequent forest overnighters. What's your strategy on tackling those? Do you take any steps to prevent them, or do you just keep a watchful eye out?

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It helps to recognize their habitats, usually higher grass and shrubs. Vicks Vapo Rub works good as a deterrent. I put it on my ankles, waist, wrists and neck sometimes, if I am in an area when they are really bad.Typically, I just go do what I am going to do, and then do a check before and after sleeping, and again when I come home.

      Pulling ticks with a knife? Sounds like that requires some fine motor skills and practice, but makes sense if you don't have anything else to use. I've seen people make improvised tick removers using expired credit cards by cutting a small "V" into the edge. Those seem rather effective and most people have an expendable credit card with them at all times, so it's a very accessible tool. Anyhow just thought I would share a useful tip if your swiss knife ever fails you.
      Keep the awesome videos coming, I'm learning a lot and I really like the atmosphere in them. Take care!

    • @EnduranceRoom

      It should fit inside or under the lid just fine. I usually carry water inside pack and then a canteen on my hip for easy access. Lot of guys strap a water bottle on outside or even use the D ring on shoulder strap to clip one on the front.

    The only thing that i don't like about the L is the damned rolltop. I seldom need that much volume that i use it, even in winter, and it makes packing and unpacking a pain in the ass. Not to mention that you need a headlamp if you want any chance of finding anything at the bottom of it. Oh, and lack of side pockets for long items strapped to the side/bottles.
    When ever i can i throw the 6L pockets on my M and use that instead. 🤔 Infact, the larger size Jääkäri M with carry system of L would be the perfect backpack

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a bit of food on the belt for use on trail or as bait for traps. The main pack has food storer in a yellow dry bag. I carry a kettle or larger pot, and fill that with food and spices to take advantage of the space.
      Clothing, I have socks, puffy jacket, hat and gloves in belt rig. In the main pack, I have a dry bag with pants, jacket, underwear, socks and thermals. Extra socks can be stored in ziplock bags at top of bag or in an outside pocket for more efficient access.
