Russell is not all that surprising really. It's a pretty competitive position and it's fair to say that the 3 chosen have earned it. Disappointing for Russell, sure. No Johnny grey tho'? That boggles the mind.
Euan Ferguson I would have picked Russell ahead of Biggar, and if I'm being honest probably Ford ahead of Biggar as well, Watson should have at least made the tour as well, I really rate him. Johnny Grey unlucky but such a lot of quality in the second rows.
I can just about accept Biggar being named for his guts and resilience but a great ball playing 10 he isn't however Halfpenny is a shock, I've seen most pundits selections and not heard his name mentioned once, yes a good kicker and courageous but really doesn't offer too much else. Having said all that not a bad squad. I genuinely think the Scottish open side should have gone and Johnny Grey can count himself very unlucky, same goes for Launchbury. What really concerns me is the captaincy and from that the balance of the back row. Warburton great guy but he is not the best open side on the party particularly to counter Barret, Tuiperic is the best open side actually followed by the Scottish fellah not even selected, also Warburton quite honestly wouldn't make the bench of the blindsides on tour either. Just my thoughts but lets see what happens, really looking forward to it.
