I saw a few USHRA shows in the 80's. At the Pontiac Silverdome, they really put on a spectacular show in about 1983. Allen Gaines was there in the Orange Blossom Special 2wd truck doing an exhibition pull. It was a beautiful truck, something like a '37 Chevy with a supercharged BBC. The original Bigfoot truck was also there doing car crushing, and it was the highlight of the show. They had a couple of school buses that he would climb on top of, then get out and wave to the crowd. When he crushed the buses, every flashbulb in the place went off, and that was spectacular, too.

I am really curious if the modifications he did for the engines having flames coming out during the run, other than making it appear like a Nitro dragster or Funny car, etc. (which is brilliant and makes it an unforgettable piece of history and something every fan would always remember) had any performance benefits or not..? I mean it is Art Arfons after all, lol, so probably looks AND performance, lol 😊

Spark plug at end of exhaust. Hit a switch and it will light.
