Captain Marvel, Ironman, Wonder Woman, who needs Super Heroes when May is around! Truly a wonder. So proud of you for not giving up.
Brill!
@@wellbeingonwaterI love how you didn’t let the bridge beet you lol
You did well with that bridge. Well done you for your determination 😮
May , you did bloody amazing with that bridge! Us lesser mortals would have given up or not even attempted it. I did fret, worrying you may hurt yourself but my goodness I cheered for you ❤ well done May xxx
Aww thanks for saying!
Hi May, bowled over at your resistance to your fears & anxietys. Truly inspirational video, and also entertaining. You are a true influencer, and I hope you give many young people the drive to achieve.
Thank you so much!☺️ lovely words
For services to entertainment and sheer bl**dy effort, determination and ingenuity. Go girl!💪
Aww you’re so kind! Thank you 🤩
Well done Msy, stop doubting yourself, you're a champion!
May, my tip for the horror that is lift bridges is a ratchet strap the type they use for securing loads on small trailers and car roof racks. It might be slow but its not as strenuous as what 198 put you through. They also work when loopd into long lengths to move very heavy Lock Gates if there is a convenient post or tree to wrap the strap around .
Ahh yess the good old ratchets! Thanks!
May, that was an epic journey, mentally and physically but you did it! You are a very capable, strong, independant woman and we can all learn something from your positive determination!
Aww thanks lovely Hazel
Great to see you back, safe and sound! Absolutely heroic effort with the bridge!!
Hehe thanks pal
Sorting out that bridge dilemma was absolutely aMAYzing!
Way to go!
You did it!
You are strong!
You are capable!
You truly are amazing!
Denise 👍
Thank you so much! Wooo
Look up a bit of kit called a "come-along." It's basically a block & tackle with a ratchet handle (like your windless), with a steel cable and snap-hooks at each end. I don't know what it's called in the UK. (Might be called a "cable winch puller.") A lightweight one should cost somewhere around £35. Best place to look for one is probably somewhere that sells tools to farmers and mechanics. I've often thought one or two of those ought to be part of every boater's stash of equipment. You could have gotten that lock gate and bridge opened without any struggle at all.
Will do thank you
That was a fun one! Well done for getting past that bridge! I think many would have given up.
Glad you enjoyed it!
God bless you May you are a star, you never give up.
Aw thanks Scott
Great having you back May. "What Ifs" are nothing more than the start to a new adventure. Adventures allow us to open our mind and think beyond the box we are comfortable living in.
Stay safe
Mark
Alberta, Canada
Aww that’s lovely! Almost poetic thanks for sharing!
This video is absolutely amazing❣️ such tenacity and determination. Well done, May. I enjoy all your videos, but this one showed what one person could achieve when they give it their all!
Thank you so much!!
May, we have just watched your adventure with the lift bridge 😆. We have a daughter the same age as you and nearly as crazy! She doesn’t live on a canal boat but sings along to herself ( and others) as you do 😍.
We will be following you weekly and buying you the odd coffee. Take care and keep smiling 😊
Re your resolving of the lifting bridge problem, you are a clever little bunny
Hophop
Nice one May. I normally nose up to a lift bridge, tie to it, climb up. Lift the bridge, pull thru, then lower it. Well done for fighting that bridge down! Try tieing your rope to the ring on the ground, up & thru a link of chain, back down to and thru the ring, then pull up on the rope. That way you can use your strong thigh muscles, your weight doesnt matter & you have a two to one mechanical advantage to make the pull less.
Good tip!
So frustrating, I just wanted to reach into the screen and hold that bridge down!! Welcome back May, hope you've had a wonderful holiday and the flooding down there hasn't caused you any problems, K
Aww bless yas
That bascule bridge is a complete nightmare. Huge amounts of Kudos for getting through it without giving up.
Up there on the most challenging cruising day I’ve ever had! Thanks for watching!
In the whole history of TH-cam I have never been so invested in a video 😂 I'm a singlehanded narrowboater too, and it's great but just occasionally the struggle is bloody real. That feeling when you solve a seemingly insoluble problem that looked like it needed an extra body is one of absolute badassery, though, well done on sorting that bridge!
Haha brilliant! Love this comment!
Remarkable young lady total respect to you well done!!! Thanks Dave
Aww cheers Dave
You don’t need to worry about your fears or anxieties young lady, you showed excellent problem solving and determination. Well done! 👌🏻
Aww such a lush comment, thank you!
I think the bridge part was one of my favorite vlog moments from anyone ever ❤
Aww that’s so amazing! Thanks for saying!
13:33 💯 😀 so refreshing to hear someone say this. There’s so much false data out there. The simplest trick to get someone to see this for themselves is to get them to shut their eyes and get a picture of a cat. When they do, ask them “ok, who’s looking at the cat?” When they say “I am” you say “there you go, that’s you”. 😀 and you can leave it at that. You don’t have a soul or a spirit, you are one. 😊 😇 Happy New Year 😀
Nice one! 😁
What can I say that was the best lift bridge video I've ever watched. You deserve a large glass of 🍷 well done. It just shows that strength in the mind. Lee
Thanks 4 bing may, we see it all and love it cos u conker all!
Wooohooo
I would love to own a narrowboat
Go for your dreams!
May you are a true inspiration, what a wonderful person you are. Never Say Die!
That was amazing, truly inspirational. When you spoke about intrusive thoughts , anxiety and panic it really struck a cord with me , how often we don’t let ourselves do things because of the fear and anxiety, finding a way to overcome those thoughts and feelings and doing it anyway is sensational to see in action. And then the bridge, there were so many times I thought no it’s not going to work but you kept going and absolutely found a way through. There are so many times in life we are on our own and have to get through it alone( even with people surrounding us )this was a brilliant example of that and I will think of this when I next have one of those times xxx
Thank you Becky!! In a world of social media and putting yourself out there it can be exhausting. And then I receive a comment like this and it’s like a boost of strength. I’ve actually shared it on my IG page because I’m hoping it will inspire others to watch and feel the same. It’s all about community for me and supporting each other. Big hugs and gratitude to you lovely one xx
“they don’t go out in public” shows thousands of people on TH-cam 😂😅
Great video!
haha ahh well
Well done 👏 👏 ✌ 👏 ✌ . You're a little'un but a tough'un !
A great demonstration of mindfulness over matter !
At times , i thought that , if the bridge suddenly slammed shut , you might get catapulted into another demonstration ...... yogic flying !!!
Haha!! love this
First time watching your video, loving the way you look at life and your termination to get through every day❤
Awh welcome to the channel Paul great to have you here!
Attaching one of your ropes to the chain on the bridge and feeding the other end trough the eye of the hook on the floor and then pull the rope, might have made it easier.but the important thing was, you did not give up and succeeded in the end.
Wooooo
You could even rig what we in Australia would call a "truckies hitch" and make a simple rope into a pretty fair pulley on that bridge. As long as you have two points to tie the rope off to. Well done!
Welcome back May and Gidday from Australia where it will be 29C tomz 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
Ooo jealous! Was battling ice today
You need what we here in the U.S.call a come-a-long! It's a hand winch with hooks on either end with a length of cable with which you hook one end to the bridge, the other to the piece at the bottom, then you could ratchet the bridge with one hand.
Just a bloody awesome attempt, well done you. You are an inspiration, and still loving life as you push through all your barriers. Living your life as you pursue your dreams with all the vigor and verve lost to many. Well done you..
Thank you so much!
How can I help you guys.
Bless you May, I nearly pulled a muscle just watching you try and open that bridge...
Hehe
Wow May I bloody admire you, talk about girl power! Seriously though I would have given up, seeing you not give in and do that all by yourself was a true inspiration 🎉
Aww thanks 🤩
Boaters of old carried a short stick, called a Banbury Stick to prop the bridge up... Pulling it out as they passed under. The practice was frowned upon as the bridge tended to crash back down when the stick was removed.
For real!? Cool
Yup.. Years ago, when most of the bridges were down I found that my boat hook was the perfect length! You just have to make sure it will come away easily 😊
You absolute legend! I clapped when you conquered that bridge! 👏🏼 x
Hahaha!! With you on that girl!
Oh my days, what a video. Strong, resilient woman right there! I was pissing myself laughing and spat my tea out at one point. Confidence restored lady 💚
Aww thanks so much!! So glad it made you laugh 😆
I feel your pain May, a few years ago on the Oxford canal I had the same problem. The design of the lift bridges was such that it was nigh on impossible for a single handler to operate them. I was more fortunate as it was summer and just waited for another crew to help. I sincerely hope that CRT see your vlog and make all lift bridges on the system solo friendly. Otherwise it's an accident waiting to happen! Love your tenacity and good luck.
I don’t know how you ended up in my instagram algorithm, but I’m glad you did. What. A. Total. Badass. You are!
This is a great episode ! Well done with the broken bridge !! Thanks May !
Glad you enjoyed it!
May you are such a genius. You had me hooked as I watched you work thru that swing bridge fandango. I was willing you to get that hook secured so much. A real inspiration and love the advice on dealing with ones nemesis to boot. Good luck that girl 🍀🍀🍀🍀
May wow just watched your video
Your grit determination shone though .it was like watching a thriller peeking out from behind the settee as you fought with the giant (bridge)
Well done you have taught most of us a lesson never quit in life conquer and learn
Aww such a lush comment, thank you!
May your amazing your energy is astounding that was the best i have seen for a long time you had me laughing how you had to work the problems out carry on the good work may utter brilliant
Wow, thank you
Hi May,
High tide at you too, but you enjoy it.
I think you're the happiest girl in the world.
It helps that I find the smallest things funny! Thanks for watching!
Hi 👋😊 May glad you're back ive missed you.
Yay! Good to be back
@@wellbeingonwater Yay 😁👍
Thanks, May, for sharing your adventures. This tiny contribution is a HUGE shout-out for that bridge-opening scene ….. 😂🎉😂
😁 thanks so much!
You are the swing bridge queen 🎉🎉🎉🎉 great vlog
You have demolished your fears and unleashed your bright charming personality since I started watching your channel! You are a real treat top watch, and make watching a real fun time! Keep smiling! 😂🎉
Aww such a lush comment, thank you!
Perfect balans, Nice nature and peaceful surroundings… and still an adventure💪🤠✌️
This episode was fun to watch.
Having some experience from sailing, I would have straight away tried walking up the lever to see if I could outweigh it.
Eventually had a hammer, a nail, and some rope handy to lock the lever down with a knot, then go through, pull the knot open, gain my rope back, and have the bridge down again.
However, everyone has an individual solution...
Thanks for your thoughts!
Triumph over adversity , refusal to give up , if ever I am confronted with a seemingly impossible task I will remember this video, well done May
Thanks Glenn!
Hi May It's great to see you back on your journeys 🙂....love your determination stamina and problem solving with that bridge 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks so much! 😊
What an undertaking with that bridge.
Great how you solved that.
You are very resourceful.
I enjoyed your video and it made me laugh, that fight with the bridge haha Well done.
What a beautiful life you have.
I spend months on the water in the summer with my own yacht.
Greetings from the Netherlands (Zeeland) Ruud
Glad you enjoyed it!thanks for being here!
Hi May when you encounter hard to push open lock gates you could have a rucksack on your back with some weights in to make your overall weight heavier and just lean back after getting a firm grip.
That’s a great tip
That was amazing! your tenancity is amazing...that is the kind of drive you need to survive! Love it!!!
It really is! Now I have Whitney Houston in my head - I will survive!!
That is a terrific video. May is triumphant. Chuck you bridge!
Haha!
Bloody hell, great video May. You've got some balls girl xx
Hehe
You go girllllllll!! 💗
Urgh scammers
Congratulations on finally getting under that bridge may, you earned a well deserved lunch and rest xx
Thank you so much!!
Great video.
I’m so glad you managed to do the bridge on your own in the end, very satisfying looking back.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love your vids May.!!!
Get yourself a block and tackle to to help with all those bridges and lochs!!!
Hehe thanks Ben!
Never stop. Thats how all thing are mastered
Love it
Oh May, the fight with the Bridge was like from a Fairytail in Germany called Rumpelstilzchen !!!! So mighty and funny at once ! You worked on the impossible like Pipi Longstocking ! A strong girl charactere from the famous Astrid Lindgren . I loved it , reading the book for my little Sister when i was young. A good and healthy 2024 May !!!
Aww love this! Thanks for watching!
Bravo May. I am sure that this adventure will remain in your memory for the rest of your life. It's simple things like that make life so wonderful. You look so happy and that's all that matters
Im sure it will! Thanks for saying!
Loved this awesome video even more than usual. Usually, I love your videos with a vengeance. So that says summat….!!
Your fabulous soliloquy on the lock gate, and your totally focused resolve to defeat the stooopid bridge were shout out loud brilliant.
Happy New Year, May, you gorgeous human……. 🎉😅🎉
This is a lovely comment thank you!!
May sweetheart, this is what I'm talking about. Safety is a mindset. "Worries and anxieties intrusive scarry thoughts" NO! NOT until AFTER. Replace it with watching that Bow, NO "observing" from outside of yourself. IT IS HAPPENING to YOU. Replace mentally all these thoughts with being IN THE MOMENT, BEING THERE. You have data. YOU did it. And you will do it again.
Safety is being there in the moment mentally and spiritually. CONCENTRATE. "Do or do not, there is no try" THIS you have done!! Calm and safety will flow through you.
"A Narrowboater must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. All her life has she looked away…to the future. Never her mind on where she was. Hmm? What she was DOING!”
From portable radial saws to electric drills to being near the contacts on your batteries, CONCENTRATE.
You a Hero!!! Be Safe and Happy Travels!
Wonderful, I had a big smile on my face when you tackled that!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello May. We have been subscribers since you started. But this is the first we have messaged you. We just had to this time. Your acrobatics on that lift bridge had us both in stitches. You will no doubt get the" You should have done it this way, or that way", Know all
type's commenting. We know that darn bridge, and Somerton deep lock. Quite daunting with two on boards. let alone a single-hander. Albeit a very determined single-hander. Lots of love. Stay safe. Dave and Diane, on N/B Tickert boo. xx
Hey Dave and Diane, thanks for commenting and watching my videos. It's nice to 'meet' you! It makes me happy to know these videos make others happy too! Glad to be going the opposite direction for the time being!! Take care :)
Impressive bridge opening! 😅 Beautiful content! 💪🤙⛵
Glad you enjoyed it! 😺
Well done may great video your a very determined woman xx
Thank you so much!
What a genius girl ! Nice effort on this bridge ! Best regards and respect from France May !
Thank you so much 😀
May, this video made my day with you fighting the bridge laying on the wooden bar and finally successfully hitting the ground ;-). I absolutely admire that you don't give up in any situation. Thanks for this and thousands of good wishes to you.
Wooo! Thanks for the love
Wow, that was amazing May!Such determination bloody fantastic solo boater. I remember once we couldnt turn out 72fter due to a cross wind. So we left it overnight, next day still windy so I reversed it back to our mooring. Hit many boats, but I did it! Here's to a happy 2024🎉
Haha brilliant, ooooh boat life!
My goodness.. What an Adventure.. !!!
So fun and exhausting
Wow May. Love watching the perseverance.
Thanks Sheldon!! Please report this scammer ⬆️ I don’t use telegram
Love the wide shots of the countryside...
Im glad!
After your defeat of the bridge, you should have thrown on some Bee Gee's, "Staying Alive," and strutted up and down the streets of the village so all the villagers can shout and point, "Look, that's May, The Bridge Conqueror."
Haha so true
This was a tough one to watch, I was pulling and pushing along with you 😅 the sheer will and determination you showed was incredible. I love how you take the time to reflect on how you’re feeling, I’ve been trying to do the same recently. This was quite the inspirational video
Aww thank you 🤩
Hi May, great to see you back another great video👍 wishing well this year and looking forward to your video tooooo. Take care 🌷
Thanks 😁
May, you're a beast!
Haha 😛
You are truly a baddass. Love the bravery and attitude! Keep it up!
Hi May, please don’t be offended but this latest video was comedy gold, and you did an excellent job putting it together, having said that I really admire your tenacity, you may be small in stature but you are a very strong person both mentally and physically, laying on the bridge counter balance arm was brilliant, but you certainly made me laugh, anyway take care and be safe.
Its quite hard to offend me! This wasnt offensive in anyway, it makes me happy that this made you happy!
Maybe you could get a harness for you and hook up a chain to it and it might make moving the lock gates easier? There has to be a better way. Many of those lock gates are too heavy for many boaters. I was getting mad watching how ridiculous it is to have to deal with that sort of thing all the time.
That would have been helpful!
@@wellbeingonwater did you contact me? If not there is a scammer pretending to be you
First time I have watched your videos and I think you are a very determined young lady take care and stay safe by the way I've subscribed 👍
Thanks and welcome to the channel!!
Well done but can I suggest getting a heavy duty ratchet strap, and a hand winch. That with your mooring pegs and ropes should give you many different leverage options. Also snatch blocks and pulley to help redirect applied force could be handy.
Yeah good idea!
I had to laugh when you were struggling with the gate(sped up video made it funnier). You got bigger stones than me. Love the videos. 👍😀🍻
Wow. Some dangerous and scary moments
You overcame them all with true British Grit.
Well Done !!!!!!!
Woohoo
Thanks, May for your hilarious battle with the lift bridge. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. I'm sure it was a frustrating struggle while you were doing it, but your telling of the story was absolutely great. Thanks.
Yay!!! Laughing is the best medicine!
Well done that girl , you did very well and you made it look so enjoyable to watch.👍🏻😎👍🏻
Thank you so much 😁
The smile for positivity is awesome.
Aww thanks
😂😂 that bridge man ! Hahahahaha your jokes trust… no surrender! 😁💪🏻🤘🏻
Well you know what they're saying.
Where theirs a May theirs a way.
Not laughed that much for quite a while.
Excellent job.
Haha love this!
I loved the vlog cheers n beers Marty Australia
Glad you enjoyed it!! Cheers and beers
I always fancied living on a narrow boat, but wondered how I would manage locks and bridges on my own.
Oh, wow. Got to give you 11 out of 10 for perceiving with swing bridge 193.
Have you thought about a set of weights, one to build up your muscles and two to attach to the rope to give you more weight to help lift the bridge.
Great work 👏 👍 😊
haha! Thanks for watching, anything is possible!
Fantastic work on both the lock and the tricky bridge. Your perseverance and never say die attitude worked wonders in overcoming those obstacles. Good to have you back. Happy 2024
Love this!! Thanks for watching
