This is very interesting. Here in America, I remember a few episodes of the TV Western "Bonanza" where Guy Williams appeared as Will Cartwright - nephew to Lorne Green's Ben Cartwright. When I recently saw one of the episodes Guy Williams appeared in, I couldn't help imagining Professor John Robinson from "Lost in Space" speaking with Commander Adama from the original "Battlestar Galactica."
Thanks for posting this!
The adorable Zienia Merton played Ping Cho in the Doctor Who season one story Marco Polo!
My favourite actress on Space 1999. Yes, she was adorable. Miss Merton passed away of cancer, September 14, 2018, one day after the 19th Anniversary of Breakaway Day (September 13, 1999).
Um, I don't know if this counts, but Zena guest starred in Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures, which was built around Pertwee and Baker companion, Liz Sladen.
Adding to this because I'm not sure either with mine, but Lalla Ward, the second Romana in Tom Baker's run as The Doctor, also appeared in an episode The Protectors.
@@FireStormDel Lalla also became Mrs Tom Baker for a bit in the early 1980s. The wedding was covered on John Craven's Newsround. K9 was present, but I don't know if was actually John Leeson or not.
Clive Hornby was a security guard in 2 episodes of Space: 1999 who was then famous later on as playing the role of Jack Sugden in Emmerdale.
Although credited for his role as Dr. Darwin King and therefore not an extra, Michael Sheard. He was an amazing 'bum actor' (his phrase, not mine) who starred multiple times in "Doctor Who ", played a role in "Blake's7", was Hitler in "the original The Tomorrow People " and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", and is Admiral Ozzel who gets force choked by Vader for bringing the fleet out of hyperspace too early in "The Empire Strkis Back". Plus, of course, his other most famous role as Mr. Bronson in "Grange Hill".
Also in The Sweeney , On The Buses, The Professionals, Crossroads and going right back Dixon of Dock Green , a good actor with a huge CV.
Patrick Troughton made a guest appearance in a second season episode...
And the final episode as well!!!
He was the Archon of the Dorcons. No, I did not make that up.
Bonus Fact: Prentis Hancock, who played Paul Morrow, appeared in the DOCTOR WHO story "Planet of the Daleks" with Jon Pertwee's Doctor! #FabFacts
He also appeared in Jon Pertwee's first story, Spearhead from Space, and then in two Tom Baker stories, Planet of Evil and The Ribos Operation.
@@GusMcGuire I believe he was also in "The Power of Kroll" as a tribesman. Could be wrong, it was a long time ago...
He also had a guest role in an episode of the New Avengers.
@@GusMcGuire Don’t forget a Thal in Planet of the Daleks!!!
He also appeared in the Protectors as an blackmailer.
Not sure if this is worth mentioning, but in a Capaldi era episode of Doctor Who, not only is Cloudbase referenced, but the Twelfth Doctor name drops Sylvia Anderson as someone he's met. (And apparently danced a foxtrot with!)
There’s also a Keith Wilson connection between 1999 and The New Avengers. I remember one crazy New Avengers set that was unmistakably Keith Wilsonesque. I waited for the credits - and there he was.
You forgot Prentis Hancock who was on Space 1999 as Paul Murrow, was on Doctor Who 3 times, Jon Pertwee Spearhead from Space as a journalist & Tom Baker Planet of Evil as the Earth Ship commander & The Ribos Operation as the Captain of the Guard of the Planet Royal Jewels.
And he was a guest star in Gerry Anderson's The Protectors
The Anderson vids are great. Love watching these as there's so much great detail.
Alot of that Space 1999 money was from Martin Landau and Babra Bain. Used for Chris lee and Peter Cushing David Prowse, production etc
My friend and I have a theory that, at any given time, there are only about a dozen television and film stars from Britain.
In the episode *The Sound of Silence* the guy that disarmed the "alleged" bomb was Lou Carpenter from Neighbours.
And actress (actor) who played Moriarty's lover (Stephanie Beacham) in the TNG episode *Ship in a Bottle* played a brainwashed daughter of one of the astronauts who disappeared while building the SHADO Moonbase in the UFO episode *Destruction*
Three well known actors, one from Minder, the other from Emmerdale and last from A Touch of Frost appeared in four different UFO episodes (Flight Plan,The Square Triangle, ESP and Mindbender)
Fun Fact: Amy Adams, well-known for Enchanted, appeared in Smallville and The Office before.
Ben Affleck, the former Batman, was in the first Buffy movie before becoming The Dark Knight.
Richard Armitage, Thorin, was in The Phantom Menace and The First Avenger before joining Middle Earth.
Rowan Atkinson was in Not the Nine O'Clock News before Blackadder and Mr. Bean.
James Avery was always a voice actor, voicing film cartoons before Uncle Phil and the Shredder.
I thought that first pic of Gareth Hunt was Jason King Haha!
See I'm gonna go the other way. Nick Tate played a small role in Battle of Britain as a Spitfire Pilot. One line and laughs. I always thought he played Alan Carter's Grandfather.
That's given me an excuse to drag the Battle of Britain DVD out for a rewatch, so I can look out for him...
@@chrispalmer9838 it's in the scene where Christopher Plummer's character is leaving and Michael Caine is coming in on a group is around his car wishing him off
@@chrispalmer9838 Good idea, I'll put on now before Bridge Over The River Kwai as can't sleep. It's 1:32 am here UK
Ah, the incredible, mythical, stunning British television of a long time ago! I miss those glorious years, when BBC and other programs come from England to my country, Italy... 😰
This show needs to be either rebooted or continued . If done right it would be glorious
No, it does not. It would be a "woke" fking disaster.
@@wilhelmsbane6160 There was going to be a UFO reboot film a few years back. It even had a website. Apparently it all fell through. I didn't know wether to be disappointed or relieved...
@@chrispalmer9838 I'd be relieved. Have you seen the rebooted Lost in Space? Dr Smith is now a woman, ffs!
@@joannegray5138 My wife and daughter watched it on Netflix. I couldn't get into it. Thank heavens for headphones 😁
You also have Brian Blessed, who played all over Brit Sci-Fi TV. He was in 2 episodes of "The Avengers", 2 episodes of "Space:1999" (he was great as Maya's father, Mentor}, and, (although not in the Pertwee era, but with Colin Baker), he played King Yrcanos in "Doctor Who"...
Loved that guy..seemed like he was in EVERYTHING in the 70's-80's..Was also great in the horrible "Flash Gordon" movie...A bad role that he played so over the top he made it enjoyable..
More importantly, there were a number of actors who guest starred on Space: 1999 who ended up playing roles in the six Star Wars movies George Lucas produced. These actors included Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Brian Blessed, Julian Glover, David Prowse and Michael Sheard who was Admiral Ozzel in the Empire Strikes Back and had a guest starring role in Peter Davison’s first Doctor Who story, Castrovalva.
Don’t forget the terrific Shane Rimmer. He did a lot of voice work (voice coming over intercom or radio), he played James Kelley in the episode Space 1999: Space Brain (S1, E21), Commander Carter in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Star Wars - A New Hope (1977) - in an uncredited part . . . . And he was the voice of Scott Tracey in Thunderbirds.
@@nsnopper Yes. Shane Rimmer asked Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, “That R2 unit of yours seems a bit beat up. You want a new one?”
Space 1999 actors who were on Dr Who in major guest roles:
Prentiss Hancock - Planet of Evil and The Ribos Operation
Catherine Schell City of Death
It's Bill Filer by the way
It's spelled 'Jon Pertwee'
Perhaps its because he ended up in Upstairs downstairs as a footman so had a job to go straight to.?
I was going to mention that 😉
Is that it??? Where about Prentis Hancock,Catherine Schell, Zenia Merton, Julian Glover, Michael Sheard, Brian Blessed and Patrick Troughton???
Child-like presentation. Thumbs down.
Most who remember these people are in their 50s-70s.
Definitely not for you in that case! Thanks for the feedback!
