I work at a Lexus dealership and I have driven the 2019 IS 350 & the new 2019 ES 350 side by side a few times. The ES 350 is pretty much a very high-end Avalon/Camry cousin and is a good idea of what the comparison is like.
The advantage the ES 350 has over the IS 350 is the much newer interior design, Apple CarPlay, more advanced safety tech (e.g. full speed radar cruise control & lane trace assist) the touch-controller instead of the silly puck thing, a quieter cabin, softer suspension (even in F-sport trim) and far lower running costs thanks to the 8spd gearbox (better MPG) and the ES makes do with 87 Regular fuel while the IS requires 91 Premium. The ES 350 F-sport is also somehow less expensive than a IS 350 F-sport as well, though the IS has more discounts which makes it almost an even fight.
However if you like to actually drive, the IS 350 still FAR outshines the ES 350. The ES is still a luxury car and it handles like one; it never has the directness the IS possesses. Despite sharing nearly identical 3.5L V6 engines the IS is far more eager to rev & be pushed whereas the ES even in Sport+ mode seem to hesitate more, especially the 8spd which while is great on the highway tends to hunt for gears. Going hard into a corner in an ES feels scary & off-putting, whereas the IS feels at its best in the corners the harder you push.

You work at lexus? Can you tell me why Lexus keeps the whp so low on the is350? 311 is weak compared to other cars in its class and price range. I get that it’s luxury etc... but cmon is lexus going yo up the power in the IS350 anytime soon? Maybe at least 350hp?

I have a 2017 IS200t F-Sport (Nebula Gray Pearl exterior on Rioja Red interior) that I bought used last year & it's been the best car ever so far! It had 15k miles when I bought it. I only paid $27,500 & it was around $45k new. I previously drove a 2015 Camry XSE V6 which I loved, but this Lexus is a huge step up in every way. Feels very solid, very well built & much more expensive than what I paid for it! I originally wanted the IS350 F-Sport, but the turbo engine has more than enough power & is very smooth & quiet. It also gets 4 MPG better.

the v6 camry gets better gas mileage than the lexus 300 or 350 so im not sure what exactly your comparison is about. the 2.0t on the camry outshines the lexus because its lighter than the lexus. if you get the xse trim on the camry everything else about the car is an upgrade over the lexus.

Car looks great on the outside but that interior looks like something from 2014. The seats are fine but everything else (CD player, a weird nubbin to control the tiny screen)...I would love a Lexus but the interior needs to be updated and bring back the power of the old IS F.
