8950 heater is 13 Volts, or so says GE. Meant for mobile use, so a 13.8 Volt alternator wouldn't overvolt it so much. Just finding the data sheet for that tube was a bug hunt back in the day.
Some of the Maco 300's didn't have 8950 tubes at some point in the manufacturing they changed other types I have repaired hundreds of the Maco amps and they made changes to all of them over time.
Ahhh. The prior video (D&A) where the amplifier was arcing must have had the same gimmick. The output was arcing to the wire for the meter, perhaps damaged insulation on that wire. p.s. That could also explain why you were pegging the meter when modulating.
@@tramdr thank you sir for your great videos and for your response. Very nice to see someone that cares enough about the CB and Amp industry to help prevent it from dying completely.
Interesting to me that the 2x5 is called a 300 and the 750 is 1x2x6, so 1 extra pre-driver and 1 more final more than doubles the watts out? I don't think so. That's why the 300 is considered a workhorse as it is underrated for the watts it puts out, where most amps are over-rated for the watts they put out.
Love those Z-14 chokes in it! The Z-14 and Z-28 chokes are very useful in so many ways!
Agreed! Even in the Maco, they use them as plate blocking chokes, DC safety chokes, and cathode grounding chokes.
I am going to see that Nomad fellow with a bunch of radios one day, soon!

You gonna have to get that whistler fixed. 😂
I did a bit of quick research Professor:
"A gimmick is a novel or unusual idea or device..."
Yeah, but look up an electronic gimmick

A shocking thought 🤠
TramDR, can you recommend where to purchase plate/filament transformers these days, specifically for a dual 3-500z box?

Yep, as said in the video.

Way, way way off on that one.
Surprised that no one came up with the money that you wanted for The Maco you decided to keep.
Me too. That amp is awesome and at first a lot of people said 'Me' Me' Me'.

This is a 2x5 ?
Yes it is.
