You can also try Fifa International Soccer, ISS, or Capcom's Soccer Shootout. If you want a soccer game with more depth, go for Captain Tsubasa. Oh, and Super Sidekicks 2 and 3 are solid entries, too!
It is amazing game. We spent our youth playing these games. We found there were few areas at the corner of D box from where when you shoot, you wouldn't miss a goal.
i have tried this game with multiple core on retroarch but there is always graphical glitches. Cores tried FCEUmm Legacy and non legacry, Nestopia, fixNes, Messen and QuickNes all with glitches :(

It's got ball physics and player inertia that are pretty much identical to River City Ransom (that is, the most advanced on the NES), it's also the only soccer game on the system that has actual goal post and crossbar collision so that the ball can hit those. The combat system is also similar to RCR where you can fight anyone on the field and the elite enemy teams have unique fighting abilities. The game has dynamic weather (!) where wind realistically affects ball and player movement, rain forms puddles of mud in real time on the field in which you get slowed down, lightning can strike players and tornadoes can carry you or the ball away. Players on the Nekketsu team all have unique special ball strikes, as well as each enemy team also has one, and they all have their own animation. It's also got complex AI which is unique for every team (you can also choose AI patterns for your own team, as well as standard soccer tactical formations), and an RPG system for your team where mood affects each individual's level of play and you might have to do things to improve it or use substitutes. Also, the graphics are music are amazing, and the game runs with surprisingly minimal slowdown. This game has got it all, it's miles ahead of any sports title even from the 16 bit era. Unfortunately, it's in Japanese only but a good fan made English translation patch exists, as well as everything's in kana (no kanji) so even if you play the original cartridge it's still not that hard to figure out the basics.
Oh alright, neat. I'll have to check it out. I haven't played many of the Famicom exclusive Kunio games, mainly just the one that was RCR set in ye olde Japan.

Ja grałem tylko na podróbce NESa z targu, ale działał idealnie jak oryginał - sprzedawcy na targach wtedy nie mogli komuś sprzedać aż takiego szrotu jak dziś wciskają na Allegro, bo na wsi to już nikt więcej by od nich nic nie kupił 😉 Ta gra Batman była naprawdę fajna. Wydany chyba w 1989. No i Soccer z 1985 oczywiście obowiązkowo ❤

If only this game also contained west germany and ussr as well as yugoslavia ,that would,ve be a complete reminder of that era 1985😁 BTW I remember when i played this game with a cousin in 2010 after the worldcup match,but guess what,after i realized that you cannot choose holland but can choose for spain,i went mad because of being reminded how spain beated holland in the final worldcup match,arrrggg,hahaaaa🤣🤣🤣

This has much much superior graphics than fifa 2023 sports played on 4k on pc with an rtx 4090 and resolution turned to 8k.

Brazil is the best team in this game. Skill level 4 @ 45 mins is a real challenge. Level 5 is almost impossible to score.
